  1. People who have not been to the rockets festivals do not understand the the content is not just big bamboo rockets being fired up into the sky but all the other elements involved - the music - the joy - the pageantry - the beautiful costumes - the dance - the the sheer fortitude and elegance of the beautiful women and their their male musicians who walk and dance for hours in the sun - the village headmen and women exhorting for luck and rain -the multiple processions and performances which make it all such a joyous time.  Twice I have tried to upload a short video I made about Yasathon - Kudwa and Sisaket but the wrong video showed up - one about the lopburi monkey feast last november.  I tried to delete the wrong video but could not. I will give it one more try to let people know what they are missing. Enjoy. This video and others about Thailand, Vietnam and Serbia can be found on my You tube Channel called Dijahtal Arts - My motto is' Dijahtal Arts Bringing a Big World To A Small Screen Near You.'

Thanks for uploading the video, maybe not everyone's cup of tea but I for one like these traditional festivals.
I've not been to any rocket festivals but last year spent 10 days in Ubon Ratchathani with friends and thoroughly enjoyed the Candle Festival, a great spectacle .
Carry on making the videos and keep up the good work [emoji106]
  2. yes  village b.s and totally fabricated stories are "the  norm"
So far in my  village  I have allegedly "killed a  dog"  with my black car which then was changed to a white one ( go figure)  ......"stolen water". eh??? got wells.........."stolen land" ( no but had  land stolen)....... etc etc, many of them have  nothing to do all day except make up dumbass stories

So you're the one whose giving all us farangs a bad name !! [emoji51]
  3. I think it is a "masked South-East Asian Snake killer", but there are here people with more knowledge about dog breeds then I have....
Re thinking, it also looks a bit like the "Siamese coconut retriever"

Not sure, lets wait what others have to say.

    Arjen.

He looks to me like a Thiamese Somtum Hound but I'm not 100% sure .

All joking aside he looks a lovely little fella and he is as lucky to have you as you are to have him .
  4. If advertising alcohol is illegal in Thailand, why was I watching an ad for Heineken on the giant outdoor TV at Siam Paragon while standing waiting for a train?   Too obvious to be noticed, or selective enforcement again?

They have adverts for Chang on the TV all the time but not a glimpse of beer, a bottle or even a glass !!
    What's the point ?
  5. The ladies cleaning the toilet doesn't bother me at all, they do a damn fine job in most places I think.

But the guys giving you a neck rub while you're peeing !!, I'm not up for that !!
Came across it twice, once in a bar in Ayutthaya and it was mildly irritating, I just waved him away.
The second time was in a restaurant with live music, a big old place in Pathum Thani where there was about 5 young male kids in white suits trying massage/molest you in the loo, it was well over the top and I lost my rag !!, one guy rubbing your neck is passable but 5 kids running their hands over you when you're trying to pee is not on !!

And no these weren't gay bars before anyone suggests it .

  6. I have seen beef as an option in Indian restaurants in the UK but not elsewhere.

BTW, the Beef Dopiaza at the Light of Bengal on Rose Street in Aberdeen is to die for.

I don't remember seeing beef in an Indian before but it has been a while and some days I struggle to remember my own name [emoji51]

The closest I get to a curry now is in the " restaurant south " as my gf calls it !
Some unrecognisable meat in a really spicy sauce !! It's actually very good [emoji4]

  7. A beef vindaloo ? in an Indian restaurant ?
    [emoji848]

Well I just googled it and apparently not all Indians are Hindu, there are Indians who are Muslim, Christian and Buddhist who have no problem eating beef, so a beef vindaloo is a thing apparently, well who'd have thunk it ? , not me !
And yes, I should get out more [emoji20]
  8. I never liked my ex wife's nickname and called her by her proper name for 20 years, all her family and friends used her nickname but nobody questioned it.
My mother, father and brother use my full name ( Andrew ) but everyone else I know calls me Andy .
    It's just accepted.

You can call your granddaughter what you want, whether her real name or a nickname of your choice.
You can use it as your own " special " name for your granddaughter, not sure if that will be acceptable to your family but it certainly seems like an acceptable compromise to me !!
