Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Andrew Dwyer replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Okay thanks, a few Dolphin owners were surprised to learn that although the relevant button was on the info screen and the slot for sd card was there the dash cam wasn’t working, only to learn that a camera wasn’t fitted !, but can be bought for 3k and fitted diy. -

Anyone looking to buy a used Atto 3 ?, now is the time, seen about 12 wanting to sell on FB today. The day after the Seal announcement …….. coincidence ? ….. i think not ! Looks like BYD aren’t taking part exchange or just giving the usual p1ss poor price for the “ turn “. Anyone ? -

This is handy for checking the differences between the 3 specs of BYD Seal and the colours available etc . https://autolifethailand.tv/unofficial-price-byd-seal-ev-bev-thailand/ I don’t see any mention of the built in dash cam that was in the Atto 3 but missing from the Dolphin ( although the camera can be bought and fit to the Dolphin very easily ). Anyone ? -

Yes, we have it pretty damn good here for EV prices The standard range BYD Dolphin here costs US$19k , the same car has just been launched in Mexico for US$31k !! -

Same as the Atto 3 ?, under 30 kph emits a pedestrian awareness synthetic sound, 2 actually which have been described as a space ship or ice cream truck !! Heard it in a Seal YouTube video with that Irish fella. On the Atto it is possible to unplug the speaker under a plastic cover right at the front of bonnet, of course safety concerns means some people aren’t prepared to unplug this. But wrapping the speaker with a couple of layers of tape seems sufficient to reduce the sound, still audible outside but less so inside. Of course, it may be hard wired in the Seal or difficult to access, time will tell. -

Another MG Cyberster vídeo , this time showing some driving. That is one beautiful car , a bit of Plasti Dip ( or Hyper Dip if you prefer ) on those badges and those silver “ headrests “ and it would be perfect imho. -

Yup, looks like the op should wear a T-shirt with “ I am Thai , show me some respect “ written on it ……. in Thai script of course. Or do like the rest of us and accept our facial attributes will always mean we are treated differently irrespective of whatever paperwork we have acquired. -

Yup, don’t think BYD do the window film freebie. They have gone back to the Atto 3 level of free stuff after the Dolphin no charger/no free maintenance schedule again. Clearly BYD needed to reduce the price for Dolphin v MG4 battle and nicked some of the freebies to do that, MG rebuttal was the 100k discount, but they also had to reduce the package to do that, quite a battle of the baht going on here . With the Seal up against the Model 3 I think the price alone will favour BYD, the freebies package is just icing on the cake. Let us know how the test drive goes . -

Seems like the Seal is getting an upgraded home charger , the ABB home charger is around 50k single phase or 60k for 3 phase. -

Are you thinking of buying a BYD EV?
Andrew Dwyer replied to DUNROAMIN's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
There’s a white ( Frost ) Atto 3 near where I live, it’s a strange colour, at times it appears grey or even a very light purplish tinge. Green would have been my choice. The guy parks it half on the street and half on the pavement with a granny charger and extension lead disappearing into some bushes. Strangely it still has red plates and I figure it appeared in mid April. -
As with all things Immigration the home visit process will vary depending on location …… but some IO’s are just taking the p1ss !! IMO a few guidelines need to be followed: Entering the house is perfectly acceptable but only to sit down to fill the paperwork, no need to stray from the lounge. Any request to see your bank book or state your income should be politely refused. Any request for gas money should be firmly refused. A glass of cold water can be offered but no need to wine and dine them. Requests for photos in the bedroom should be refused, totally unnecessary imho and proves nothing. Requests for witnesses should be met with “ you are free to talk to my neighbours if you wish “ or words to that effect. No need to be hostile but also no need to become best friends, from my visits i have noticed that some IO’s are embarrassed by the whole thing while others show an air of superiority. A photo with your open passport or in front of the house number and someone to sign in acknowledgment of their visit is all they need. They are only doing what their boss has ordered them to do and it is their job so no need to let it raise your blood pressure ………. or add them to your Christmas card list .

BYD changed the wall charger supplied from Duosida to Zhida , to include an improved part built into the charger. Something to do with the breaker tripping with the original wall charger, I don’t remember the exact details. But the warranty has gone from 1 to 2 years so has to be an improvement . -
I have had 3 home visits, all on retirement extension. 1st - 5 years ago on first extension from an OA visa. 2nd - last September, first extension from an O visa. 3rd - a month ago, random visit. All 3 similar procedure, photos on the sofa holding the passport and outside in front of house number. No money requested. A glass of cold water offered. No reason given for 3rd visit.

Swollen joint on second toe, pain in others
Andrew Dwyer replied to simon43's topic in Health and Medicine
Simon, I tried toe separators also with zero success. Looks like you need something like this: I have seen a wide range of contraptions like this intended to pull the big toe rather than separating, presumably you would wear this while sleeping and increase the pressure occasionally. After my failure with the toe separators I considered one, or two in my case, of these but never pursued it as mine, although are obvious , have never caused me any issues other than aesthetic, have had mine most of my life. Probably available from pharmacies, the photo I got from Lazada. -

Electric Vehicles in Thailand
Andrew Dwyer replied to Bandersnatch's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
Difficult to recommend either as it depends on your driving/car preferences, i would make a pro/con list, mine would be. Looks - MG, a good looking car even without the roof spoiler. Driving experience - MG , rear wheel drive and 50/50 weight distribution makes for an excellent ride. Sunroof - ??, used very infrequently imho, some like the novelty others find it hot. Price - MG, but going for the X model makes them pretty even. Servicing etc - Both, now with 1 yr insurance, no charger and paid servicing I think very similar, BYD catching up with service centres now. Tech - Dolphin, the larger rotating screen appears to have a lot more options and apparently very easy to add apps. Response seems better according to reports. Range - Dolphin wins but not by much. Comfort - ??, a test drive in both needed. -
Electric Vehicles in Thailand

As the one pedal braking is quite abrupt I have dabbed my brakes on occasions when i see some fool behind me approaching rapidly . The other day on the start of highway 32 it was chaotic as rush hour and some lanes closed for roadworks, a kid on a motorbike was driving close behind me and not paying much attention, I had dabbed the brakes a couple of times to make him aware of the stop start traffic but eventually he hit my rear end. Thankfully no damage and he was most apologetic but i think the one pedal/brake light situation is a bad one.
