I don't know how that would work, I seem to remember that Hong Kong stopped all arrivals (except for re-patriation) including transit passengers a few weeks ago.  Don't know if that's changed.

B.A website showing direct flights from Heathrow to BKK on the 1st July, if you book and they cancel the vouchers if you accept instead IFA refund are valid for 12 months.

Yes I watch the UK news every day - I live here. You are presuming then that the authorities will only call once and that will be on the first day.

I expect there may be some abuse and yes, people are breaking the lockdown but lockdown and quarantine are 2 different things. Most people who were breaking the lockdown think they will get away with some excuse or other if they are questioned. There is no excuse for breaking quarantine - you stay in one place, end of.

Whether the UK's quarantine policy works or not, its not really the right thing to do to come on this forum suggesting ways around it - Covid 19 is a serious issue.

Loads of migrants have arrived in the U.K., we can’t even keep track of them never mind legit arrivals in their hundreds. Mobile Phone, just change the sim, most arrivals won’t have a UK Sim and if they are only here on holiday they are not going get one.

Incorrect - there are not hundreds of thousands arriving every day at the moment - there are some, mostly UK residents that have been stuck abroad .  Also, is it quite easy to check you are at the quarantine address. You have to give a phone number for the address and if you don't answer when they call, you will be fined £1000 + if you are not a legal UK resident, you will be deported.

I hope genuine travellers don't do as you are suggesting because the government have stated that if the 'home' qurantine is abused they will either make it mandatory at a government facilty or cancel it altogether.

I'm waiting for the day I can travel to Thailand and see my wife again - I'll happily home quarantine when I get back. What I, and hundreds, possibly thousands of others don't need is people behaving in the way you are suggesting and causing the quarantine concession to be cancelled.

You ever watch the U.K. news the citizens are breaking the lockdown every day, yes give them an address but what is to stop you staying there for a day or so then moving on, the Police would have no idea where you were.

    Specifically to Bangkok?

This magic date is discussed intensively but the details seem to be unclear.

The hopes that unlimited touristic travel TO Thailand will be possible seems rashly.

When you go the B.A. Website the flights from Heathrow are not direct to BKK with B.A, you have to go to Hong Kong or other places and the flights are with multiple airlines.

Get in quick if you want to avoid the "quarantine" starting on June 8th.

It’s not an enforced quarantine like Thailand, you have to give the address you are staying at, they can check up to see if you are there but impossible to police as hundreds of thousands of people fly into the Uk everyday, through the the Channel Tunnel and arrive by ferry.

The same is going to happen if airlines are going to leave the middle seat empty.  The real question is if the rate of infection is so low why this so called social distancing?  The BTS doesn’t require it and markets don’t enforce it.  The government speaks with a forked tongue.  This <deleted> is all about power and nothing to do with keeping people safe.

I don’t think fares will go up initially, the airlines needs b*** on seats so putting fares up now would be counterproductive, I think next year will see an increase as and when things get back to normal.

Everything about it is propped up. There is no demand. Prices should be very low. There are empty planes and even ghost flights. Yet most flights I look at are prices the same. It is because of this too big to fail philosophy. If the airline economy was actually real prices would be dirt cheap right now.

As and when flights restart they could be half full due to the recommended social distancing meaning prices won’t come down.

Definitely contradictory.  Presumably for some reason they are trying to limit the wheelie bags people drag on and cram in the overhead bins.

You wouldn’t get past the check in desk at Newcastle with the wheelie bags on the flight to Dubai, at every Emirates check in desk it quite clearly states what your hand baggage allowance is. 1 bag not weighing more than 7kg,For reason only Newcastle adhere to this, Dubai and BKK don’t even ask about your hand baggage maybe they don’t want confrontation.

    From EK website....

What are the items allowed in the cabin?

Cabin baggage will not be accepted on these flights. Items allowed will be limited to laptop, handbag, briefcase or baby items; any other items will have to be checked in.

I have flown with Emirates several times a year over the last 5/6 years from Newcastle to BKK. What Emirates are saying is contradictory. Cabin Baggage is 1 item limited to 7kg no matter what the item is, in fact at Newcastle they weigh you Cabin Baggage, the check in desks are not operated by Emirates. They are a bit lax at BKK,  the check in desk are staffed by Emirates staff, passengers take more than they should but none of the Emirates staff ever stop them boarding.

    No hand luggage?

I would be very hesitant to put my laptop-computer in my suitcase as checked baggage.

Even with a FRAGILE sticker on the suitcase I would be worried whether it would survive the often rough airplane luggage-treatment.

Laptops not allowed in Hold Luggage not unless you remove the battery. Then again no hand luggage so where do you put the battery likewise mobile phones tablets etc.

  11. We are living in very difficult times currently and I can understand people’s frustrations when trying to contact airlines but some airlines don’t appreciate that there are hundreds of thousands of passengers in the same position. Airlines can’t wave a magic wand and instantly recruit more staff at their Call Centres. When I called B.A. one was working from home and at the same time I imagine trying to manage a family. What I do disagree with is airlines are still taking bookings then when it gets nearer the date they cancel the flight starting the merry round of trying to receive a refund again.

That also happened to me but I kept trying over a period of weeks, at random times not many times and got through eventually to an operator.

Why not give the problem to your credit card company, it's one of the main reasons why I use a CC to buy plane tickets.

My CC company Visa told me as long as B.A. are offering vouchers oor a refund they wouldn’t go into dispute irrespective that I couldn’t get through their Call Centre.

Well lucky you but not my experience I would say at more than 50 attempts to contact by phone and being cut off the phone system is more than useless ????

No not lucky, just a matter of being patient, I was in no hurry to receive a refund, I wasn’t going anywhere,  I just tried making phone calls 2/3 times a week. I was in no hurry for the refund, in fact I got through several times to discuss my partners fare which was a the return leg. They offered 50% of the fare, there wasn’t a voucher on offer but I have a year to reschedule her flight for free.

Here is where I'm at with BA after a charge back from Finair a quick refund from Bangkok air BA is a nightmare to cut a long story short and no refund or being able to speak to anyone via their useless phone system I went on the .gov site paid £35 to get my money back though the court the court papers are deemed to be served today and the defendant has until the 07/06 to respond.

    '

I have no idea how this will turn out but at least I can gain some satisfaction in forcing BA to respond.

No problem with B.A. after hey cancelled my flight Newcastle to BKK, there phone system is not useless it’s just that thousands of people were trying to call them. I tried several times eventually got through and the refund was in my bank in 3/4 days.

  16. 2 hours ago, Trillian said:

I received an email from BA that my long haul flight was cancelled, but rather than try and get a refund myself I gave the problem to Barclaycard and they took care of the entire process, the money was refunded to my card inside three weeks.

I asked the Bank who said unless B.A. refused a voucher/refund they couldn’t raise a dispute, it was a Visa Credit Card. I called B.A. asked for a refund and it was credited back to my card within 4 days. When I called I only waited a few minutes to speak to some one, this was 3 weeks ago, they do try to make you accept a voucher online, you have to call for a refund.

Even if Thailand let in international tourists after July 1, the requirement of Covid insurance and forced 14 day quarantine is going to put people off.

Not many genuine tourists would want to come due to this restrictions.

Some countries have implemented a 14 day self-paid quarantine in hotels.

The UK are going to ‘implement’ quarantine on the 1st of June, bit late I think and impossible to do,

  18. My Thai partner and son are with me in the U.K. she is on a Visitor Visa, I sponsored her. My son has a U.K. and Thai passport, would they both be entitled to apply for repatriation back to Thailand and if they were who would be responsible for the fareS ?

i appreciate currently if they did return they would be placedIn quarantine for 14 days.

3 months since I've seen my wife, but I'm sure it will be 5-6 months minimum eventually before I get to see her again, And yes, what will be the quarantine and insurance hurdles. I do have an annual travel insurance policy, I'm not sure if it covers Covid or not, I'll need to check.

Probably not covered as the UK Government say only travel to Thailand if essential, business etc.
