Well those that have been given positions that they are not qualified for have no real idea how to manage their portfolios, The health minister for example has gone quiet instead of being on top of this situation and updating the public each day about his current plans.

He might have the title of Health Minister but I am sure some else will be ‘writing’ his speeches,

The Thai authorities have a pickle on their hands, they didn't allow for this pandemic to still be around after two 3 months amnesty and i'm sure that a many night the light are burning trying to figure out what to do and still come out looking good and helpful, time will tell, i personally believe that there will some sort of further leniency on expiring visa and permits...

100% correct, lights will be burning about this issue but also how to allow tourists to return, it’s all about saving face. They have sat back for 3 months as you say not thinking Covid was going to be a long term issue and have no idea how to move forward whilst unemployment soars and businesses are going to the wall.

If asq was 30k maybe even 60k with just 14 day quarantine and travel freely me personally I would probably do that. But this plan clearly targets the rich. Not sure if they remember but most of the world was close and millions lost their jobs..

This seems like it still an attempt to keep people out..this plan how many retirees can really re enter.

No it’s the old adage that Thailand think all foreigners are walking ATMs

  4. Self quarantine, you leave the details where you are going to stay for 2 weeks, they state they will do random checks if you are there and if not you will be fined. Wide open to abuse nothing to stop you moving from the address you give originally to another.

There's a lot more information now than there was in January. And it's looking a lot brighter than the initial end of the world in Wuhan seemed to be. The biohazard now seems small compared to the economical threat.

Thailand needs to balance between Covid and Tourism and come with up with other solutions rather than expensive flights where foreigners have in the past have had to pay for Business Class Seats, 14 days in a hotel. As a previously poster stated over 300000 baht maybe ok if you live here but not for Tourists. Do what they are doing in other countries local lockdowns if there is a lockdown, they locked Pattaya down of recent.

Sorry, I live here. We don't want open borders until we know a whole lot more about what we're facing.

Yes ok for you but think how many people are unemployed and businesses face ruin, Thailand has got to learn how to live and manage Covid to revive the economy, closing the borders until a vaccination is found is not an option as that’s months possibly years away. I am not saying open the floodgates but there must be other options than the current restrictions in place.

They need tourist but don't want covid to run rampant. This is the only viable solution at this time. Be realistic... Don't think about what you want. If the incubation period is 14 what can you really do.  You want them to say "hey ok come in"  Test pre arrival and after arrival. Let's forget about the incubation period. Cases will definitely start to pop up and increase like wildfire with no quarantine. Even with those travel bubbles it would not have worked.

    **PLEASE BE REALISTIC**

Only thing that needs work is the asq hotel as jerolamo said. They need a lot more cheaper alternatives.  Not back packer cheap. You would figure if the open air travel more asq facilities would be opened.

The way you are talking tourists will be flooding back in their thousands, no chance with a 14 day quarantine.

Thailands needs to learn how to manage Covid, currently their only way of managing it is locking people up for a fortnight at their expense. Some form self isolation needs to be introduced and anyone who contracts Covid should be deported. They need to move on and yes there will be spikes/case but learn how to manage it before the country collapse into a deep slump. The U.K. isn’t a great example how to manage but realise at some normality has to resume and move on.

You forget to mention the primary problem actually in this plan:

4-5 star hotel imposition to quarantine is only possible for very rich people. We are talking about to be locked 14 days for 100 000 THB and up !

Looks like a blackmail used by a dramatic situation.

And, i am NOT a toursit, i'm very tired they tell tourist to describe all the foreigners, need to learn something now.

The Thai government is under the assumption keep the current restrictions and open the borders and the tourists will flock back.

They need to open up air boarders and keep land boarders closed. 14 day quarantine (asq) for whoever is willing. Offer a new 3 or 4 month visa so the visitors can stay longer. (Renewable)

Need insurance. Covid negative before arrival. Covid test upon arrival. Covid negative last day of quarantine.  After asq go where you feel like going.

Obviously you will have those jokers who enter asq and attempt to break quarantine to mess it up for everyone else but a guarantee of fines and jail time will thwart their attempts.

Jail time,  deport and blacklist for those who enter thailand airspace without negative Covid documentation.

No one want to quarantine Obviously but let's be real, thailand enters hysteria mode if possible cases are announced. The realistic option for tourism is long stay tourist at this time. Sorry short stayers its nothing against you its just the facts.

So no different from the current restrictions, who is going to pay inflated air fares, $100k Health Insurance bearing in mind long stay people are older and would struggle to get Health Insurance and ASQ hotels at inflated prices, you would need to be desperate to throw away a few thousand pounds even before you started your holiday.

I am still waiting for an answer to a totally justified question,WHY will you not authorise your own governments official documents,is that not what normal embassies do?

Thailand doesn’t have a Reciprocal Agreement with the U.K. Immigration also asked when validating the  Pension Statements did the Embassy check if the Embassy had anyway of knowing they were genuine. The Embassy said no so Immigration said they could no longer accept the Pension Letters.

Maybe the Embassy could check somehow but obviously not prepared to do so probably because of the time and effort and data protection laws.

There was a list of 5 clinics that the Thai Embassy London put out that would do the Covid-19 test and issue a fit to fly certificate.

Thanks but ok if you live in the London area, I live 260 miles from London, we would have to travel to London by public transport and stay in a hotel increasing the risk of picking an infection up.

I think they should require preflight testing for Thais, just like they do supposedly for everyone else.

But the fact they're not requiring it doesn't seem to me to be a recipe for disaster, so long as all the returning Thais and everyone else is required to undergo the 14 day mandatory quarantine and aren't released until they have a final positive test.

In that case, it seems to me, the risk they're incurring by not pretesting the returning Thais prior to flight is them potentially exposing others on their return flight and once they're in quarantine until they're isolated. After that, I don't see the additional risk.

Basically a waste of time and money for a foreigner having to have a test no idea why, they pass through check in, security etc, 12 hours on a flight then 14 days quarantine !
