Jumbo, I think your in situation that could be best served by using an agent. The 800k money in bank (with pound down) bit of nasty option. Also other issues. Maybe use an agent this first time then for next extension you can have things all organized and we also will hopefully more clarification around the income method.

I have also thought to do 16 day overstay and pay the fine when I leave on the 19th of March but I am not too keen on having an overstay stamp in my Passport ?

The only extension you can get is the one year extension.

You could do a border run for a 30 day visa exempt entry that can be extended for 30 days at immigration.

It should be not problem to get another single entry non-o visa at Hull.

You might want to consider getting a multiple entry non-o visa at the embassy in London.

Another option is to get a OA long stay visa that would allow unlimited one year entries for a year from the date of issue. You can use funds in a bank in the UK to meet the 800k baht requirement to apply for it.

Thanks Joe as usual very informative answers.

  3. I have posed a few questions in the last few days re Extending my 90 Day Non O Single Entry Visa based on being in receipt of my U.K. Pension which I got a Hull.

Currently I would need to have the 800000 baht in the Bank before the 1st of January, my thoughts are now extending my 90 Day Non O Single Entry. I will be leaving Thailand on the 19th of March, my Visa expires on the 3rd of March.

Can  I extend it at Immigration or would I need to do a border run and could I extend it for up too 16 days ?

The other question is, could I go to Hull in May and get another 90 Non O Single Entry based on me receiving mum U.K. State Pension ?

The reasons for all my recent queries are the poor exchange rate and I am reluctant to transfer the 800k whilst the rate is hovering around 41 baht, possibly next year it might have ‘recovered’

There is no charge if the BE don't issue the Income Letter.

You mentioned that your extension expires on 1st March, so not a new application. If you are only transferring the 800k now, seems you may be outwith the three month 'seasoning' period. Otherwise you may need to restart the process or go down an expensive agent route.

But, as they say, up to you.

It’s only 2 months too season the money for the first Extension.

What is the risk of 800k in the bank...? Many people keep saying that,  but with so many expats having this or even more in Thai banks,  there are not many incidents of loosing their money...!

(I'm genuinely concerned, so let me know if you have something...)

It’s not the risk it’s the poor exchange rate and I believe more expats wil use Agents rather than transfer money at the current poor exchange rate.

If you have no other options, and with the monthly income route yet to be fully tested, were it me I would be sending the required paperwork to the BE by mail asap.

They are still issuing the income letters - likely to continue for a period of up to 10 working days from 12th December (I received mine today and it was dated 13th) - so they may treat late receipts within that window as 'delayed due to Thai post' and process. Am sure there will be a few in the same boat as you.

Including a covering latter explaining the reason for the delayed despatch ('brain fart') and hoping for their assistance on this important matter might just work. Nothing ventured.........

Sending by email might just work as well, but possibly more likely to bring an instant 'too late' message than if sent by mail. Then again, BE might just show a bit of compassion (!!) if your email gives an an explanation for the delay. Who knows...

Good luck with whatever option you choose.

Thanks the risk of losing over £50 would put me off, I will transfer the 800k Baht.

Sorry to correct you Tim, but the Thai Consulate in Hull are only able to issue single entry Non-O visas.  Multi-entry Non-O can only be issued by the Thai Embassy in London.

Correct my 90 Day is a Single Entry, it expires 3rd of March, my next flight is the 19th of March.

Are there any alternatives too getting an Extension of Stay too cover me for the additional 16 days apart from doing an overstay?

I would be returning too Thailand in May and hopefully the exchange may have gone up.

OK so you were allowed in on a re-entry permit until the 14th?  Or you were allowed in on a visa exempt entry?  You still have the non immigrant O visa from Hull?

You can not obtain non immigrant O visa in Thailand except from a visa exempt or tourist visa entry with proof of financials for retirement.  Just having a pension would not count.  If you entered on a re-entry permit just exit on 14th and return with that non O visa from Hull.

No the IO stamped me in on the Non O valid till the 3rd of March.

  9. My Extension of Stay/Retirement Visa was due to expire on the 14th of this month, I let the period of seasoning in the bank run out hoping the Brexit situation would be sorted unfortunately it hasn’t.

My intention was too start again with a Non 0 Immigrant based on being in receipt of my UK State Pension at Hull which I got whilst in the UK. I went there on the 4th  of December, they would only make the start date from then.

On arrival at Bangkok yesterday the IO appeared very confused because I had 2 Visas. She called a colleague over who took me too the side, no hassle really both were woman. I explained what my intentions were and she stamped everything and let me go saying I could have got the Non O in Thailand.

Hindsight is great but could I have got a Non O based on me being in receipt of my UK State Pension here ?

A bit surprised by this comment. Frequent solution to get interests at Kasikornbank is to put your 800k on a Fixed Deposit Interest account. But if you have no penalties, for sure you lost your interest if you remove money before term.

So, curious to know what type of account you are talking about...??

Search the forums like I did or google it to find a account that pays interest without penalties.

Even if thousand people on retirement visa walk into that bank, how is it going to affect your life? Nothing is going to happen to you. May be the said bank will open thousand accounts and it is going to benefit the banks.

Most retirees, I guess have at least one account, including me. But to give an impression that it is easy if you just walk around into all banks in one square mile area of Pattaya, you can open an account, even if you have a tourist visa is false. Tomorrow I am going to Kasiorn bank and check out how easy it is. May be they will open an account for me because I can show them I have a Bangkok bank account.

I have a Bangkok Bank Account, I told my new bank verbally but they never asked me to provide any proof I had one.

I didn’t walk round Pattaya, I did research on the internet on a bank that provided an account suitable for my Extension which paid interest and I had access too with out losing the interest if I withdrew money.

    BTW it wasn’t Kasikorn,

Wow. This forum is about helping each other and express our opinions - good or bad. It is not about collecting statistics (fake or real). Can you at least list the legwork you did? May be that's also a secret. You just opened an account in an unknown bank (in your dream?). The statement means nothing, otherwise.

This person does not even say which country he is from. That makes ALL the difference. If he's a Yank , then he is a liar. If he is from any other country, I would tend to believe him.

No I won’t name the bank, I don’t want everyman and his dog going there asking to open an account possibly be refused and then say why did you open one for such and such person.

I read loads of stuff on Thai Visa, formulated the best way forward, had a walk round a few banks, get off your butt and do the same as I did.

I can definitely relate. The idea that you can just walk into a bank and open an account if you are a foreigner is incredibly naive. I tried at three different banks after I had already opening a Direct Deposit account at Bangkok Bank.  They ALL wanted "work permit". Telling them that I was retired and forbidden to work under the terms of my visa was not understood or accepted. What kind of strange system is this??

I opened a new Bank Account yesterday all they asked was I on a Retirement Visa and opened one in minutes here in Pattaya.

Some of the comments are funny.

Reminds me of a thread where people claimed you can walk into any bank in Bangkok and get an account with a passport only here on visa exempt.

It was always:  I heard, my friend, I read blah blah.  Not one person could provide an true accurate information as to where to get such an account.

I know some agents here also no one is going to do an extension that requires seasoning for 13k.  Maybe for a friend of theirs if you have all your ducks in a row and bank or income documents already and just too lazy to do it yourself.  But then add on the fees and multiple entries and you are at about 20k.

But if so; it is a well used, accepted and advertised service even on TV.  So, lets hear from those who have personally (names, location dealt with an agent who will do extensions for 13,000 b or less as claimed......

I enquired at one in Pattaya recently out of curiously just after Big Jock was appointmed, 12900 baht although they won’t open a Bank account for you now.

This is a new revelation to me. Using a VISA AGENT puts you in danger of a five year prison sentence, when some of the visa services advertise that you can see their "agent" at immigration?   Is this an exaggeration or a true danger for those who use visa services? If so, it's no wonder that many end up in prison here.

Too many snouts in the trough, the Agent pays the Bank for the letter, he takes a cut and the IO take the rest.

1900 baht to renew, say Agent charges 15000 baht, 13100 baht left, nice little earner.
