Yes
You complete a TM6 on your arrival in Thailand with all your details so why do you have too repeat it at your local Immigration Office if your details are logged at the airport.
When I was ‘detained’ a couple of years ago at Jomtien re TM30 they informed me the Data Base was local only, there wasn’t National Data Base so basically completing a TM6 is pointless.
The UK have now abolished Landing Cards the UK equivalent of a TM6.

If you stayed in a hotel and had to show your passport they would know
How would they know I stayed in a hotel, as far as I know there isn’t a central data base linking all the Offices is there ?

This is almost exactly what Jomtien immigration told me. I go to UK 8 times per year and also travel all over Thailand. The first time I reported that I was back in my rented condo the IO told me he wasn't interested and just to come back 1 year later to re-register. I've never filed a TM30 since. 1 year is up next month so I'll see what awaits then.
I was told different at Jomtien, I have a Non O Multi Entry Visa lived at the same address for 3 years. Jomtien told I have too report every time I return too Thailand.
If I had a Extension of Stay/Retirement Visa they said it wasn’t necessary too Report.

I would like too see a similar system adopted in the UK due too our very lax Visa system. Some one can get a Tourist Visa and stay for ever as they never need too report anywhere and are only picked up by chance.

Recently had a holiday in Koh Samed and Pattaya. I renewed my extension last week with no problems. I've never filed a TM30 in 20 years and last week was no exception. It was never mentioned and everything done in under 15 mins.
They wouldn’t know you had been too Pattaya or Samui, if you had left Thailand there would have been an entry and exit stamp in your Passport.

Never! He will suffer changing from Thai Baht to Sterling to US Dollars and to honest everywhere will accept Thai Bht in Cambodia.
Will there be 2 different prices the Thai Baht price and the US Dollar price when you buy anything ?

You may be right but I wonder. The in UK rates offered are usually pretty poor and TT in Thailand sure can do better. I just took a look at converting £ to baht, then baht to dollar on TT Exchange based on yesterday's cash rates (Sterling was pretty bad), and it was 37.13 and 30.9 ie £100 would get you $120.2, a rate of 1.20. What is it in the UK?
Currently $1.19

Well, if you are still in the UK it would seem best to buy your dollars there, you loose money a second time when you change baht bought with Sterling into dollars.
My thoughts were rightly or wrongly was using Baht to buy dollars even after exchanging sterling to Baht would be a better option ?
-
I will be going too Cambodia for a short break, I have been told the preferred currency is the US Dollar.
i am currently in the UK should I buy my US Dollars here or in Pattaya using Baht which I have already changed from Sterling ?
If buying in Pattaya where would the best place to buy them ?

wake me up when someone has to show an insurance document to an io
Exactly has anyone ever tried too read and understand the terms and conditions in an Insurance Policy, nigh impossible so what chance has an IO with a limited knowledge of speaking and reading English understand one.

Only ever seen one motorcyclist in Malaysia not wearing one.
In UK unless the rider/driver confirmed the the highways act the insurance becomes mild and void. And their is a system 100% which will make a MC wear a helmet.
How Scooter riders have insurance or even past the test, I think that could be less than 50%

Must be a slow news-day?
Great that those from who have had the opportunity to obtain an education in a developed country are able to vent about the stupidity of the masses that have little education and exist in a third world country close to the poverty line, well done chaps! ????
Common sense tells you the road surface is so much tougher than the human skull, nothing to do with education, it’s the Thai attitude it won’t happen too them that is the problem.

Tipping them straight into a crusher?
I would start off with a big advertising campaign, telling people in 1 months time if they are caught not wearing a helmet their bike will be crushed, no questions asked.

I believe it's either Vietnam or Cambodia where 100% of motorcyclists wear helmets....why...because if they are found not wearing one...their bike is confiscated... End of problem.
Exactly of course there would be the up cry of how people are going to get too work, kids too school etc same as when they were going too stop people riding in the back of pick up trucks.
i would also implement a law for drinking and driving, impound the vehicle and crush it.
its easy to know when there is a crackdown in Pattaya all the Scooter Taxi riders are wearing crash hats.

Sorry, never had to and never will (hopefully). Personally, in almost 20 years I have never seen a TM30. Hypothetical situations:- I return home in the early hours of a Saturday and, like today, Monday is a public holiday. So, I report to Immigration on Tuesday - will I get fined for a 3 day delay in reporting my return? In another situation, I could return home on Saturday, then be on my travels again today (public holiday) without even being able to report my arrival back home before departing again. It is all totally ridiculous and I shall continue as I always have done!
I enquired at Jomtien, I am on the defunct Multi Entry Visa, the lady informed because I am onthat type of Visa I need too Report. If I was on an Extension of Stay/Retirement Visa there wouldn’t be a requirement too report.

"Under Article 37, any foreigner residing in Thailand who visits another province for more than 24 hours must report to immigration"
I am rather confused (possibly "thick") about this. I have lived in the north of Thailand for nearly 20 years and I have NEVER had to report to Immigration when travelling around the country, only for my visa extension and multiple re-entry permit- not even 90 Day reports as I regularly travel outside Thailand as well (only TM6). I live in Isaan and regularly go on long weekend shopping/tourist trips from my rented home to Chiang Mai, Mai Sai, Chiang Rai, Nong Khai, Kanchanaburi and Aranyaphratet to name a few. I get in my car and drive to my destinations. All I do is present my passport to the reception desks at the hotels as required by law. During my travels,I often get stopped at police checkpoints and I have never been asked if I had completed a TM30 for Immigration.
That’s because the hotels are responsible for the TM30 Reporting not you.

TM28/ or TM30 not relevant. BS
Sent from my iPad using Thailand Forum - Thaivisa mobile appWhen Booking in to a hotel anywhere in the world they always ask for you Passport and take a photocopy which I assume is passed on to the local Police or Immigration.
Lets be honest why shouldn’t they keep track of you, have you some thing too hide ?
-
I have no problem with a TM28/30 and the 90 Day Reporting, it allows Border Control too monitor your movements, if you have nothing to hide it’s not a problem repotting possibly apart from the queues but I believe you can do it online.
When my G.F. enters the UK on a Tourist Visa it’s straight through Border Control. We leave from Newcastle a few weeks later, no Border Control checks, for all they know she could have overstayed month/years etc.
Its a well known fact in the UK anyone in general who overstays or works is detained then released and told too report to the local Police Station a week later, most abscond never too be seen again or appeal and it takes years to deport them once they get lawyers involved.

That's usually a different matter. There is nothing inherently wrong in using an agent, a few of my friends do so, to avoid visits to Immigration, the crucial thing is that their seasoned bank account money is their own and the agent does not deal in the funding aspects, just deals with the office and paperwork , to avoid visits.
The thing is at least 400k they will never be in control of.

excellent post. Lays it out for all to see, and consider.
So why are the Agents still openly advertising on Thai Visa, google retirement visa without funds and see how many Agents come up.
For me if I was using an Agent the first question I would be asking would be how they get round the new rules. Obviously they do as I don’t see many shutting up shop.

Where do you get 8 months from, its 2 months before and 3 months after, 5 months for the 800k.
You appear to be unaware of how agent extensions work, the agents are not doing anything illegal, they are in contact with high ranking immigration officers who can approve an extension without the funds in the bank or seasoning.
Its a legal extension done by an immigration officer with the discretionary power to do so.
Exactly and the Agent and Applicant are just offering a gratuity, it’s up to the IO wether he takes it or not.

Waived at the discretion of Immigration.

Doesn't answer my question as to how an agent overcomes the 90 day updated bank book, and of course the 800K is supposed to be in the bank 3 months prior to the extension, how do they show that?
They don’t have too they have already ‘paid’ the IO off.

SURVEY: TM 30 -- How serious is it?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
Posted
As I said before Immigration would have no idea where you were not unless you left Thailand Then re entered with a stamp in your Passport.
