  1. That intoxicated guy might have had a low alcohol tolerance and some devastating personal circumstances that drove him to over-indulge for the first time in his life - pray that you're never in his shoes. If you lead anything less than a 100% perfectly healthy lifestyle then do you think that your GP or the emergency room should simply send you on your way?

    Buriram

Why not? I compare Phuket with numerous other destinations and my UK home town which is why I come here for long holidays. And I'm sure you know the great places in Buriram but I didn't and the OP probably won't so how about you spill the beans?
  3. These days I actually prefer to travel to the main office - far more civilised. The Patong one is cramped, disorganised and the staff (on the two occasions I used it in the past) were very rude and abrupt. No, you don't need an appointment but make sure that you've got all of the required paperwork, cash and photos - there are helpers who will assist.
  4. Sounds sensible to me - I see many bars that are 75% staff after about midnight and two fans running for each person.

    Buriram

I went for the World Superbikes in 2019, which was a great event, but I found Buriram itself dreadful after dark compared to Phuket - apart from one ex-pat place around the corner from the Victoria Centre I felt decidedly out of place. Lots of young Thais (including plenty of very attractive young ladies) but they keep to themselves and were not the least bit interested in a single handsome farang guy - which is fair enough I guess. I had a day to spare before flying back and so I rode the scooter up to Phanom Rung - from memory it took about an hour and a half at a leisurely pace and was a very dull ride along straight flat hot dusty roads. The place was worth a visit if you can handle the steps (see posted photos) but a lot of tacky traders around. On the way back I stopped off at Huai Talat lakes/reservoirs which were a bit of an oasis in an otherwise dull landscape. Almost back in Buriram I also took a look at Khao Kradong Forest Park (the extinct volcano) which was also a worthwhile visit with great views from the top over towards the race circuit - the visibility was just about okay on that day.
  6. Well, I had a quick look at the website and the map for "Laemsingh Villa" is of Nai Thon beach which is a half-hour drive from the claimed location at Surin - not a good start!
  7. I've never in my life had any problem with a Russian - not too keen on Putin though!
  8. Oh, the irony! I assume you meant "I think that the first two lines.....". In speech, the way your voice rises at the end of the sentence usually makes it clear that you’re asking a question and not just making a statement. But in writing, you need a question mark to signal to readers that they should read the sentence as a question.
  9. This. You shouldn't have to touch the shift key, just hold down the left button on the mouse as you're selecting the required section..
  10. I put far too much trust in Google! The part-opening is good news as it will make my northbound beach jaunts a little easier - they haven't been too bad on the scooter but in a car they would be a real PITA. Also, when I pop home for Xmas I was planning to do an overnight at Nai Yang as the trip from Kamala to the airport in the morning rush would be far too stressful - I'm a terrible worrier.
  11. It looks as if they have also closed it for two-wheelers now? I would guess that is as a result of the torrential rain on Sunday night? Anyone have any news so that I don 't have to finish every line with a question mark?
  12. According to Google maps - "Closed until Mar 2023".
  13. Maybe, but wouldn't they have looked even better without?
  14. But...... you were very reluctant to "tell others" about your little secret find, Lub D. And by the way, have you checked their current prices ????
  15. 330 x 90 is not a lot! And, you pay for massages? I thought the women were all throwing themselves at you!
  16. Well, if I had more business sense I would certainly not be sweating over the price of such cheap accommodation.
  17. A serious suggestion - how about also taking a year away from this forum?
  18. Why only women?
  19. A lot of Thai women have the same issue!
  20. The traffic looping northwards is fine at Kamala but very slow through Cherngtalay - reminds me of pre-covid!
  21. Big red warning signs on Nai Thon beach for at least the last week. Red flags all along Kamala beach at the moment and probably many other west coast areas but many tourists know better. What more can the authorities do? Arrest them?
  22. Seems to me like a half-hearted gesture - I rode along there yesterday and a few places between the Banyan Tree back entrance and the Mövenpick seem to have been removed and the land cleared but plenty of "structures" remain untouched as you go further north along that road.
  23. Walking distance is very subjective - when I started coming to Patong I used to say on Nanai near the junction with Nanai 2 and thought nothing of walking to the beach during the day and then back to Bangla for the evening - sadly, the legs would no longer handle it.
