It's quack o'clock, unsurprisingly.
At last, a bit of common from a Thai.
Half of the medicines in the pharmacy have their roots based on natural ingredients.
I've been singing the praises of garlic and ginger and mushrooms for years on TVForum. Now some Thai Doctor has actually read my posts. Good for him. He is enlightened now.
Let's hear it for reishi wine and three cheers for the Doc' while we are about it.
Notice in the 'west' we have virtually eradicated the word 'chemist' and replaced it with 'pharmacy'. Not by accident that.

Yes, if you don't close the whole country at the same time, a swarm of locusts will descend from BKK to cities outside, bringing infected with them. Lock it all down.
My wife's daughter and her husband live in BKK. Don't want them anywhere near me. Virus or not. Where are those commandoes? They could stop 'em leaving for the prov's. Come on Cha Cha; do it. You know you want to!!
And the submarines?

Ah it worked out well then... kind of.
I always try and sleep on my back but end up turning right.
Thanks for that Rick.
OP; if you are talking 'heartburn' (not sure if you are), turning right to sleep on your left side is preferable to sleeping on your right side. There are a couple of reasons for the problem, but the most important one is the bend valve at the start of the gut. If you are getting heartburn whilst you are laying down sit up straight and burp out the trapped air.
Stay away from fried food after about 4 in the afternoon.

The BMTA announced that non-essential shops and malls should close. I haven't read about any nearby provincial authorities making the same call. The government still hasn't made up its mind whether to call a nationwide closure of non-essentials.
Not having clue where Crossyville is, maybe go and have a look?
If and when the shutdown does hit the DIY shops, one needs to improvise and start scavenging screws from existing installations. For example, there's at least half-a-dozen 'spare' screws in each pair of wood door hinges and maybe a dozen if you remove the door completely.
This 'outside the box' DIY tip brought to you by the letters N and L.
Although this post is a little 'tongue-in-cheek' there is some good advice.
The doors - and I guess most poster's doors are the same - have four hinges with four screws in each. Just do the following: remove three from the bottom hinge, two from the next up, two from the second down and one from the top. Do that to four doors and you have 32 screws.
This DIY tip is brought to you by 'Owl's common sense approach to Thailand DIY'

If that humiliation wasn’t enough i then had to read about my team having a bad day ( ???? ) a few years ago !!, i was only 5 at the time so thankful I don’t remember the “ bad day “.
Leeds were a force to be reckoned with during those times. But when the Irons were on their game they could beat anyone. Shame they were not 'on there game' more often. Same even now.
The fixture before the Boleyn game, Leeds had gone to Highbury and come away with an easy 1-3 win.
I've heard - perhaps you could verify Andy - that Bremner was very angry in the dressing room, after the game, and threatened a few players for not busting their gut enough.
Later I began to appreciate Leeds, when I had a lovely girlfriend who lived near the ground.
I must say that The Irons are not my number one team. My team is 'deleted'; too embarrassed to say. Although they were a top flight club in the early 1960s.

The 'Grab' m/c couriers are going to be Thailand's heroes and heroines.
These doom-mongers that say there is nothing you can do to protect yourself other than self-isolation are sad.
There are the obvious things like washing hands with alcohol and handling money with plastic gloves on and wearing swimming goggles, but there is even more basic stuff. That is the body itself! Think of the body as a fortress. The virus is trying to get across the moat and scale the walls but when it does the inhabitants have to be ready to fight back. And that fighting back means a strong immune system.
It's easy to stick 'how to boost your immune system' into google and get hundreds of special herbs, drinks, exercises and goodness knows what else.
Here are my tips:
Get in stock as much reishi, maitake and <deleted>ake for six months supply. If you cannot get all three; then reishi is the choice. Use the mushrooms to make tea. Drink half litre of this tea every two hours.
Garlic: pop a clothe in your mouth and chew slowly until just a pulp. Then wash down with reishi tea. Repeat every 3 hours.
Ginger: do the same as with the garlic.
Onions: a slice of onion a day keeps the peelaw away (so the saying goes). Could also keep the virus at bay.
Pappaya: great food. Eat AMAP.
Apples: as papaya.
Exercise: exercise sensibly. Get partner to help with this.
Sleep: get some rest. Can't sleep? Pop a couple of clothes of garlic next to your head; soon be sleeping like a baby.
Good quality dark chocolate. A nice snack and a great benefit for the coming war.
Coconut water: drink plently.
Licorice: just chew those sticks away.
Sugar: cut it out immediately. Plenty of sugar in the above fruits.
Salt: very, very moderate use.
Do not eat any food that has been fried.
Worry; try not to worry. When (if) the virus breaches your defences you will be well ready to resist it.
Lots more stuff to stop that nasty virus in its tracks.
Stay safe out there.

I"m searching, randomly :
No mention of smoke.
Can not find much.
Anyway non-sense with fire pollution in north, diesel pollution everywhere, and Thaïs still burn trash regularely !
But of course, target the smokers... So easy-lazy.
I've not even looked for it on the internet Sambotte. Good you have.
Mrs Owl read it on one of her (Thai) media platforms and told me about it. She is in the shower right now; so no link tonight I fear.
The way I see it is this: If a virus is carried out into the big wide world - eg by a sneeze - it will fall to the ground quite quickly unless it attaches itself to something that gets more easily carried in the breeze. It (the virus) will die eventually, but might stay alive longer on a smoke particle.

Chiang mai is in or near the top 10 of most polluted cities worldwide, so the virus must be happy to spread there...i bet the air in italy is far far cleaner than in chiang mai.
The COVID-19 virus can 'hitch a ride' on a smoke particle. If there is a little breeze the virus can travel a long way (maybe miles) before it finds a new host. This is why Chiang Mai people are so sick.
I'm not so knowledgeable about e-ciggies; so can't comment. Used to smoke myself but gave it up in 1976,

To be a little more practical regarding paper money, then iron it briefly at a high temperature and wash hands afterwards as the temperature of the iron will nuke anything.
Absolutely!!! And smear the alcohol gel onto the iron's handle (if you have any that is). Can make a gel with Lao Khao and garlic, if there is none in your parts.
Also, leave all doors ajar. So they can be opened with the elbow or knee.
Take your lead from the Skripal affair in England. Can't be too careful out there.
I've said it before and it's worth repeating. Keep tuned in to TVForum for the truth and common sense.

Why won't the mangoes make it to market, local markets are still open, they can't close them!
If Cha Cha takes decisive measures; anything can happen. The wife has read on her Thai Social Media that gatherings with more than 5 people will be made illegal again; like it was a couple of years back, under the same regime. Anything is possible in LOS. Street sellers will be arrested.

cannot get to the bank to get it, and soon no one will be accepting cash as the surface could carry the virus
Absolutely bang on the money RJRS1301. The virus can stay on a surface for up to 24 hours, IMO this is one of the most obvious ways to pass the virus on.
I'm not sure who is going to advise Cha Cha. The medics know precious little, the TAT team even less and the military have got the commandoes at the ready, but no real plan.
My advice it to only handle money (coin and paper) if you have gloves on. Keep any money in a sealed metal box at home. To safeguard others, tip the money into a ceramic dish (that has had a alcohol wipe) and put them into the microwave for a couple of minutes. Care must be taken when the money has just come out as the coins will be quite hot. And also a word of caution, go easy with the alcohol. Just a smear for anything going into the microwave.

Carefully managed it could turn out to be a good move.
This virus has come at the wrong time for the mango industry in Thailand. At the end of this month millions of mangoes would be for sale in the markets. It is devastating for the farmers, the wholesalers and the small stall fruit outlets. Thais will eat packet food for the next two months, and forgo their vitamin C mango top up, thus lessening their resistance to the dreaded virus.

Strange that even now people cannot see who was responsible for the Wuhan Virus and why. Iran was also on the list. How it never got into North Korea I'll never know. Maybe their time will come?

You’re memory’s good Owl, must have been before my time. ????
1986 was a decent season when the club attained a third spot, but for many supporters the biggie was 1999. Winning the Intertoto Cup (beating Metz) and finishing fifth in the EPL. So two golden years. And, I was there when we pummeled Leeds 7-0 at the Boleyn a few years ago.

Before I saw it I had dreams of swimming it... until I saw how wide and strong it flowed ! ????
My wife also deserted school at a similar age so not well schooled but certainly no buffalo... except on occasion... ????
We've met an Older thai lady who is our Neighbour here in outer Darwin, she told us of being sold as a child and not actually knowing her birthday and such, very sad but she keeps going on growing and selling eggplant and chilies at the local markets.Issan is beautiful in its way, I’d prefer coast personally but that’s all a long way off...
The coast can be inviting. I lived in Jamaica for a while and the coast is simply fantastic. Also spent my childhood on the bank of the Thames estuary at Dagenham Dock and Barking creek. And!!! Southend-On-Sea and Canvey Island at the week ends; family treats. Then there was Tilbury Riverside when I got older. I've seen enough coast. Same everywhere; sand and salt water, and near-naked ladies frollicking in the shallows.
About 8 km upstream of Phon Phasai there is a lot of bank erosion and some houses have found their way into the river. Some 20 km downstream (to the east) there is a huge government palm plantation. Good for a visit.
The Ozz dollar is the most decrepit and mismanaged major currency in the world. When I first came to Thailand it was on par with both the Canadian and US dollar at 35ish. What has happened? Australia; so rich in naturals and a population of work-horses and innovation. Something sadly amiss.

Owl Log 21-03-2020
Exciting day at the farm yesterday. The water was low enough in number seven pond, for the children to go mud fishing. They did very well.

So well,,,,,, that the adults got interested.

Even the cow-lady got interested.

And what a good catch. Fifty pla nin (tilapia) and two very decent snake-heads.

Back at the village, my new mango tree was shooting up.

The lady opposite has bagged her low hanging mangoes.

Whether this is too keep the insects out, or stop passing villagers accidently taking them; I'm not sure.
Another week end without footy. Alternative; watch space jungle and James Wong (again). If I get hold of this virus I'll kick it right into touch. It's ruined all the sport.
More to follow.

I was amazed Owl, to read of the troubles that you yourself have endured as the life we see you live in this thread is borderline beautiful, as is ViIllagefarangs thread. As I sit here pondering a future retirement to the LOS (also watching the $AUD hit 18.9743 as we speak !! ????????)
i greatly enjoy and admire the ramblings of yourselves and those other likeminded souls who don’t swing from Pattaya barstools and instead populate this and other threads.
My wife is from a small village outside of Phon Phisai so I find your musings of Nong Khai an invaluable resource to me.But most importantly I’m also extremely glad to hear of the relative peace and calm that you have now, long may it last !
thank you and good luck in your ventures
Very nice words HP.
Phon Phisai I know it quite well. Very nice area indeed. The river is not too wide there so the water absolutely tonks through.
Well, I am not sure of 'peace and calm', but at least I've not had a cat thrown at me for some time. But! Have to take it in my stride. A lot of the time humour sees me through. The wife was so angry with me that she was going to get young boys to kill me as I slept. "Young boys". I said; "send young girls and let me die happy."
The wife didn't have a happy childhood. Her parents sold her a few times, when she was very young; but she kept being brought back. She left school at 12 (everyone did, unless going onto higher education). And her older brothers would beat her when she wouldn't bring in the buffaloes during thunderstorms.
Dear, dear, dear. Wouldn't want to live anywhere else though. Love Isaan.
