  1. proposed changes?? Please send a link showing the proposed changes.
  2. 14 May... so only four months of speculation to go. Phew!
  3. Agree with your math mate and sorry to hear that you might not be returning to do the 2 year stint in order to grab the extra 50K baht per month. Surely there must be a cost effective way to return to AU for 2 years? Maybe a fellow AN forum member on here can rent out their AU property at a cheap rate?! So even if you own an empty caravan in Aus, please let us know!
  4. could I just leave the super where it is as an asset and not have a home? YES https://www.servicesaustralia.gov.au/assets-test-for-age-pension?context=22526
  5. That’s correct, you will get the pension straight away but it won’t become portable for two years should you want to move back overseas. You will find the cost of living very expensive compared to Isaan, but if bored and lonely in Thailand then going back to be with the grandkids etc should be a good option for you…providing the pension is enough to give you the lifestyle you want. Good luck. Let us know the outcome!
  6. Can't read the words, but thanks anyway. (just wondering why a government would dictate such a ruling)
  7. Subtitles is your friend. You’re welcome!
  8. Apparently it is illegal to go out in public without underwear in Thailand. But why? Anyone know the real reason? Asking for a friend.
  9. Mate be mindful of the current falling market in some areas of Sydney! From memory you too are also from the St G area of Sydney, so this excerpt from p22 of today’s Syd Telegraph article on the subject maybe of interest: “Ramsgate Beach was also the coastal suburb with the biggest fall in prices over the past year, with unit values dropping by an average of about 27 per cent or $329,000” I can PM you the full article if interested. Just trying to help, not alarm.
  10. Thanks, but the question is about "when". The link doesn't say when it might be legislated. So once again, do you know when we will finally know if there will be any legislation change? Budget night? End of fiscal year? End of calendar year?
  11. When is the "proposed" date of legislation please?
  12. They start between THB80K - 120K.
  13. Starting salary for a doctor at a government hospital is around THB50-60K per month. Psychiatrists at a government hospital start a little higher than a doctor but at a private hospital earn anywhere between 120K - 300K….or more.
  14. Another reason never to buy in Thailand.
  15. Happens everywhere. I had valuables stolen by staff from my luggage at San Francisco international airport and a friend had the same happen to him at Honolulu international airport.
  16. Actually yes! And the sister is a nurse at the same government hospital.
  17. Sorry to disappoint, but it’s 100% true and can send you a photo of the happy couple (with her in uniform) to prove it. FYI 25 years age difference is not uncommon in Thailand. Your assumption of him being an “old man” is also incorrect. Care to elaborate on why “it’s a nightmare waiting to happen” or are you just jealous? I think the latter.
  18. Disagree! My mate is/will be much better off for marrying a government worker for the huge health care cost benefits - will cost him something like 50 baht for any eventual operation, regardless of duration in hospital. She is also a nurse - perfect for his day to day care when required. She is also incredibly attractive, and oh, about 25 years younger. Good luck convincing him he is "much better off single".
  19. 1/ Yes. 2/ No, of course not! (Can’t believe so many people thought they would)
  20. I parked my 800K in blue chip shares in my home country stock exchange. After 10 years of 10% pa return, the 800K is now valued at over 1.8M - and that includes paying a visa agent to do everything for me! ‘nuff said.
  21. Wow! Maybe the water quality has changed “tremendously” also…
  22. In other words nothing has changed. But thanks anyway!
  23. It’s important to keep abreast of what’s happening back home. For example today’s major Australian news is about a man finding his hat.
  24. Don’t bother. Simply use your phone for cardless ATM withdrawals and for all purchases.
