Did you just go on the spur of the moment
Nemises replied to georgegeorgia's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
If you plan ahead and park your million dollar savings elsewhere 5 years prior to retirement age, then (in the OP's case) he would still collect the full old age AU pension - currently about 45k baht per month for an offshore retiree, indexed to inflation. If you don't plan ahead, then yes, the person mentioned in the OP would miss out collecting this government money. -

Correct. But the guy is only 60 so he still has 2 more years to legally park it somewhere as the Aus OAP don’t care what you did with your cash 5 or more years prior to your pension application at 67. -

Correct, he won’t get the pension if he won’t come back but! it’s very easy to hide money and still get the pension, especially when you’ve been living overseas for 7 years prior to pension age. So a friend told me anyway ???? -

Your mate has 2 years to “do something” with the cash then go back to Aus for 2 years (at age 65) to get the OAP. He then lives the high life in Thailand with his pension and his million OZ dollars. Happy days ????. -

just a reminder, they will ******* kill you
Nemises replied to NorthernRyland's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Do not ride a motorcycle in the world’s deadliest road accident country - Thailand, it’s far too dangerous. Little or no traffic rule enforcement ensures a huge % of distracted, drunk, drugged, speeding, careless, unlicensed drivers of bigger, often unsafe vehicles are all waiting to kill you. No amount of riding experience will save you because you cannot control what idiot is going to slam into the back of you when they are playing on their phone, which they ALL do. So if you’re a cheap Charlie and can’t afford a car, good luck - you will need it. -

Prevention of swimmer's ear (external ear infection)?
Nemises replied to Lorry's topic in Health and Medicine
I use these. Dual purpose: secure ear plugs & high quality MP3 player. Have tried cheaper products but they all stop working. I buy extended 2 year warranty so get a new set FOC if required inside 3 years. Hydrogen Peroxide used regularly works best for me. -
The best job ever for those 2 years! $100k a year salary $6k sign on bonus Free city travel 24/7 Drive a bus just 700 metres each trip! Just one stop! Rarely have a passenger! Today’s Sydney’s Tele ON BOARD SYDNEY’S SHORTEST BUS ROUTE THREE MINUTES 700 METRES ONE STOP Jessica McSweeney It sounds like the dream bus journey – just one cancellation all year and there’s always plenty of seats up for grabs. The catch? It’s Sydney’s shortest bus service, running just three minutes start to finish and covering just 700m. The 342 bus from Kingsford to Daceyville was designed in the late 1990s to accommodate the elderly residents of the aged care home on Gwea Ave to get to the shops and transport links at Kingsford. The bus runs just twice a day in each direction and at times is completely empty. When The Saturday Telegraph boarded the bus this week with just one other passenger, the bus driver – who wished to remain anonymous – said he rarely saw anyone on the afternoon services. Joining us on the ride was one elderly local who had plenty to say on the valued, if rarely patronised, service. She declined to give her name for fear of pushback in her community but told us anonymously that she was often the only passenger and at times only rode the bus to “keep it alive”. “I don’t know why the buses keep running, but I try to catch them frequently,” she said. “Next to nobody uses it – well, except me, I’m not nobody.” The Daceyville local said she remembers the route being busier 10 years ago but in recent years has become especially quiet. In another bus journey where we were the sole passengers, the bus driver even stopped us to make sure we had the right route – plenty of people have boarded by mistake. Transport Minister Jo Haylen said even though the route is only for a small handful of elderly residents, the government plans to keep funding the 342. “Public transport is a public service, and this little route is a prime example of what serving the community can look like,” she said. “When buses aren’t being used for peak, helping older residents in Randwick get to the shops may seem like a small job, but it’s a big deal for residents.” The service runs twice a day in each direction outside of peak hours and is often driven by bus drivers working split shifts – meaning they work in the morning, take time off during the day, and then start their second half of their shift by driving the 2.20pm 342. A spokesman for Transport for NSW said there are no plans to cancel the service. “Trips on route 342 are timetabled to fit into existing rosters and are typically outside of peak periods where buses are already available,” he said. Only one 342 bus service has been cancelled this year, far from the usual Sydney bus experience. The government’s Bus Industry Taskforce has been examining ways to improve Sydney’s ailing bus network, finding bus driver shortages are to blame.

I’d prefer to drive the Sydney northern beaches “B Line” bus. Ultra modern buses between Mona Vale and the city. Spectacular harbour and beach views every trip, not to mention the “views” of glamorous office girls. I catch this service often, there’s dedicated bus lanes through any heavy traffic and happy-looking drivers sometimes playing their own music in the driver’s cab. ???? https://transportnsw.info/travel-info/ways-to-get-around/bus/b-line-bus-service

Sydney bus drivers are now being offered free travel across the network, just like your learned judge mate! Also being offered is a $6,000 sign-on bonus!!! ???? Possible job opportunity perhaps for AN members needing to find work for their 2 year AU exile? ???? We’re giving bus drivers a ticket to ride, with a staff Opal card so they can travel for free on the public transport network.” “We are doing everything we can to attract new bus drivers and support our current workforce in NSW.” “This is a no-brainer. We are taking action to address a key recommendation out of the Bus Industry Taskforce’s interim Report and support our hard-working frontline staff.” “Staff will be able to use these cards to travel across the Opal-enabled public transport network, including to and from work, and to access other facilities like train station bathrooms while they’re out on the road.” “We want drivers to be able to comfortably take breaks between shifts, before getting back on the road and fulfilling their vital roles connecting the community.” https://www.nsw.gov.au/media-releases/free-public-transport-for-bus-drivers

No mate. Just a few kms away on your free Opal Card!! (Free assuming you’ve already max’d out the daily $2.50) Roast of the Day price is $10.50 - cheaper for members. Next to nothing to join Sydney clubs these days. I’ve joined 5 clubs so far already during my first 10 months of detention. Recovered membership joining outlays after just 2 meals and a drink.

No, not expensive at all! You have 2 years to kill so why not buy an annual pass for $150. Ride all day, every day for less than 50 cents a day! ???????????? ….and includes free chilled water at the refill stations! ???? That’s one year sorted, just one to go! ???? Oh, and just imagine all the hot female staff you’d get to potentially know, maybe intimately! - just like Tom Hanks did in The Terminal and Bill Murray in Groundhog Day ???????????? The cost to get there (LP) and home from anywhere in Sydney is capped at $2.50 and hot ‘roasts of the day’ (shown in the photo) at the bowling club are less than $10.00 ????️ ❤️ Sydney !

Haha good one ???? But absolutely nothing “dodgy” about it. Was caring for the person just yesterday! - as easily proven by the travel history on my Opal Card. Oh, & BTW, total travel cost yesterday which included multiple bus rides, multiple train rides and an amazingly beautiful harbour ferry home from near the Opera House to Neutral Bay? A whopping $2.50 ???? Thank you taxpayers ???? And thanks Albo for this week’s $1,200 (soon to be about $1,240 I think) carer’s payment! I’ll be banking of ALL of it ???? because a fridge full of fresh food & a nice bottle of ???? was kindly left for me. ????
