If not being physical threatenend I prefer to back off. I can defend myself, but would not chase anyone, especially in Thailand. I have seen this happens so quick in Thailand, where one drunk tourist have an argument in the street, ans suddenly 4-5 others jumps in and kick the <deleted> out of the "stupid" foreigner.

We will apply for family reunion for my wife when back now, only 14 months waiting time for the moment. But she have tourist visa for one more year and can still visit while waiting at least.

There is a reason why Thailand is still available and affordable for most, and that is because this is still a dysfunctional country. If you want to stay here more or less permanent, you know you risking being denied on the border sooner or later for any reason, if you try to only use visa exemption and renewal.
