  1. Chicken is still going up.
  2. Yes, and the UK is just now raising it to the age the US raised it to in 1983
  3. The US increased the retirement age to 67 in 1983.
  4. Taxing higher incomes is a start. But you need to go where the rich hide their money. Tax stock holdings. Tax tangible items such as art based on their insurance premiums. Tax stock buybacks. Increase the inheritance tax. Slap on special billionaire property tax surcharges.
  5. Dress rehearsal for the invasion of Taiwan. Greenlit by Macron, a story that for some reason isn't deemed worthy of the "world" forum.
  6. Hollywood isn't what it used to be. It's falling faster than the dollar.
  7. The British tourist needs to be arrested and put on a work farm to pay off the damages he caused. Then, permanent ban. Don't let him off with a fine and go.
  8. What if there is nothing there within 4km?
  9. If you read the Khaosod story, she sounds like the brains of the operation. Of course, the three Chinese men could be trying to leave her holding the bag.
  10. I am not affiliated with BTU, but I knew the group of PRC graduate students who were there before Covid. You're right. They're not wealthy. Prosperous maybe. But certainly not wealthy. And among the ones I knew, this was their first time outside of China--except for one person. Not spoiled. Not entitled. But just committed to improving their and their families' situation in life.
  11. Trial in the morning. Execution in the afternoon.
  12. Why can't it be the other way around? Why can't you go to get travel insurance and say: "I'm going to Thailand. I will be 1) riding a scooter, 2) be publicly intoxicated, 3) eat street food of dubious origins, 3) ride in a variety of water going craft, 4) go hang gliding, etc. Now, please cover me or tell me if you can't.
  13. Nobody seems to be putting any argument at all up that he was wearing a helmet. I would expect it to have been on or near his person had he had one. Doesn't seem the family is even arguing the point.
  14. Which means he is uninsured for the accident that took place.
  15. I begin to wonder about this. Twenty somethings and thirty somethings seem to generate most of these stories. I really do wonder if they are mature enough to travel unaccompanied to places such as Thailand. Especially coming from the West, are their survival and danger instincts still intact? They're of legal age, so you can't stop them. But parents, I think, should still give them a long talking to and perhaps dissuade the more foolhardy.
  16. No, he had no insurance because he had no helmet. He was uninsured for riding without a helmet. Same as if you jump off a building and die. You may have the best insurance policy in the world. But you will be uninsured for jumping off a building.
  17. He has no insurance because through not wearing a helmet he invalidated it. Why are you screaming?
  18. 40 at my house right now. But 28 percent humidity. And this is much better than 33 or 34 with 60+ percent humidity, which I had several days ago. Wouldn't want to go walking without a hat. But putting one on, the heat is not really that bad. Too bad people don't wear pith helmets anymore. They're perfect for this weather.
  19. As this story and so many similar ones we see constantly on AN indicate, this is overwhelmingly a problem for young tourists. But when the calls for mandatory insurance pop up, it's always for retirement visas. From all these anecdotal events, it seems to me that retirees are a lot less likely to run up and then run out on giant hospital bills in Thailand than are the unprepared young tourists.
  20. Yet another one. Terrible accident. No helmet. Skull fracture. No insurance. Giant hospital bills. Go Fund Me.
  21. Links no longer needed now that AN has supplied us with ChatGPT. To settle the above argument, I asked: "Is trade between Thailand and the United States more important to the United States than it is to Thailand?" ChatGPT replied: Done. Settled. Next?
  22. Yes, air quality levels that will kill you. Just the thing you need for year round travel. The air only gets better when the flooding starts.
  23. Well "Bad Gateway" on AN just erased the long post I just wrote. So will not bother again. Just to say the Thai Chinese exchange program was very important there. Look at the Board of Trustees.
  24. Already got them. This was bigger than most people realize.
