  1. It doesn't help that everyone now knows that Jay Powell was lying when he told congress he would fight inflation and reduce QE. Printing press for dollars is still going full blast and he hasn't actually increased rates from zero at all. Powell and the Fed only care about the stock market, where their own money is and where they trade on insider information, just like the trash in congress.
  2. Keeping the insurance means not only locking out older people who might not be able to get it, but it also means keeping some sort of pre-clearance requiring an application through some sort of Thai website or embassy. That will only frustrate any hope for a return to Western tourism as it used to be. And that's for one reason. Thailand was always an attraction because it was just a matter of getting on a plane and arriving here with a month to spend, if the tourist wanted. You could visit Thailand on a whim. It made for part of the adventure of it all. An insurance requirement will mean that option is no longer in play. Essentially, everyone will need an approved insurance visa. If you're going to need to go through the trouble for that, there are better places with easier entry requirements.
  3. The Fed only worries about the stock market, where Powell has his millions and where the other Fed chairs get their chance to trade ahead of their actions.
  4. I must admit that to my conspiratorial mind, what you describe is exactly what they have planned.
  5. And now we know what can happen with some sort of health insurance requirement for extensions authorities might dream up. A Thai insurance policy, it seems, is not worth the paper it is written on. Literally.
  6. Again, the only "bubble" here is that this designation probably will allow Chinese and Malaysians to skip insurance and quarantine requirements that the rest of us must comply with. Haven't seen anything about insurance, I admit, but the Bangkok Post today did say the "bubbles" would mean no quarantine for those two countries.
  7. Wasn't it just last week that Anutin was jeering at the United States and its response to Covid, especially compared to his own work in Thailand? And now the US turns around gives him another chunk of money and/or supplies. This is why US diplomacy is so weak. Does anyone think the Chinese would have responded to Thai criticism of their health response by giving Thailand more money?
  8. The "bubbles" could be about removing the insurance and quarantine requirements for China and Malaysia while keeping them in place for America and Europe. Permanently.
  9. Whatever happens, they will still be determined to chase after required scam insurance. They want the "health insurance tax" as well as the health insurance requirement.
  10. I recently "synced" my grants.gov account with login.gov, because on 22 February grants.gov will require login.gov. So far, it's working. There was no requirement for uploading photos, passports, or using any phone numbers, just the email account associated with grants.gov. Then, decided to try ID ME for use with the IRS. Got to the point where it required a US telephone number, although it asked for and allowed my Thai phone number and address when I started the process, and could go no further. Sent an email and never heard back from them. Why is an unresponsive private company allowed to stand between me and my IRS financial information? Seems just like the Covid vaccine. If you're an expat you're on your on, until you owe them money of course for the "services" they provide you.
  11. Why blame Chinese? They didn't do anything other than accept the terms and conditions Thailand offered them to come and visit. If their numbers overwhelmed many places, is it their fault or the Thais who tried to cram in as many people they could during the shortest period of time. This is like the people who blame China for taking their jobs and industries. Who was responsible for that? China couldn't force them to relocate and depend on China for manufacturing. The US and Europe did that to themselves. All to make the 0.01 percent rich. A similar 0.01 percent in Thailand got rich off mass Chinese tourism. They are your culprits, not the Chinese tourists who just wanted to visit a place they had only imagined.
  12. Hotel/Hospital/Hospitel scams, insurance scams, and testing scams are too lucrative for a well placed few to give up and go back to normal.
  13. And as somebody went on to say, "Well, do ya, punk?"
  14. Chinese also came to Thailand for academic and cultural exchanges. I worked with a large number of them, and they were fine people. They didn't act entitled and they were prompt, efficient, and prepared for the courses and work they undertook. The number one reason they were here? To gain credentialing for professional development and thus improve the quality of life for their family back in China. They weren't cheap. Neither were they violent or dishonest. I would much rather be in their company than that of several other nationalities, many of which seem to be prone to public drunkenness, aggressive behavior, and criminality.
  15. Thailand has a $25 billion trade surplus with the US. Thailand has a $16.1 trade deficit with China. Were the US ever to embargo trade with Thailand and drastically downgrade diplomatic and economic ties, as you seem to wish, then Thailand would be crushed.
  16. Has there been any good news about Thailand in the last 12-18 months (economic, political, health, environmental, crime, corruption, or social) that would make one million people wealthy enough to meet all these qualifications then do so in order to build a shack on one rai of land?
