  1. walk around in a tourist area and flash your bling, best way to lose your bling...fools....
  2. My Thai wife has been living with paralysis for 18 yrs. We have a manual wheel chair from US thats about 25 yrs old. Its heavy, also broke off one front wheel in front of US embassy in BKK few months back, the side walks are really badly cracked within 100 meters of the entrance.... She also feels embarrassed being seen in the chair. So thats not just you. I went to Fascino the other day to get BP meds and they had a nice assortment of wheelchairs. We bought a new one "Soma brand" thats alloy frame and pretty light weight, has hand brakes for anyone pushing and is really decent quality. I'm 70 and this is pretty easy to load in the car for me....My point to OP, get a good one thats light weight, be careful of 3 wheeled scooters, they can tip over. And don't be embarrassed , better to get out and about even in a chair than sitting at home. Roll on....
  3. One more thing I forgot to mention is a good mattress. Over the years my back issues would get worse and eventually we would break down and buy a quality spring mattress. WE did that in Houston before retiring and threw some real good ones in Container.. That worked for us as wife returning Thai after 43 yrs was allowed one shipment duty free.. I'm sure there are probably good mattresses here but no idea where you'd find one..
  4. X oilfield ad have lived with this since the 1980's, did Chiropractor, multiple MRI's and results from last one as well as degenerative discs, they had no kind words for anything from L5 to S7 I also have scoliosis. Before retiring in Thailand really good orthopedic surgeon told me until I can't live with the pain don't get surgery. It said it would be minor help at best.. I brought a Teeter inversion table to hang upside down when it gets bad..IE severe pain running from Butt down right leg.. Usually a stiff drink and hanging upside down will cause a loud POP...Agree with others that exercise and keep moving is best, I have a small pool and walk in it, bicycle my legs in the corner and try and do squats in bathroom holding a gab rail as well as 45 degree pushups.. Usually pain free unless do I something stupid, pick up a big Chinese flower pot to move where wife thinks it needs to be. The days of being 10 feet tall and bullet proof are long gone...
  5. Just glad they were returned, someone had a conscience
  6. agree with parenting skills or lack there of, have not seen these edibles here in Thailand..
  7. We've been married 47 years, divorce ain't in the cards.. Thru this forum I read about Usufruct, we retired here and this is the final stop, I think this is something I need in case I outlive wife.. Now to get a lawyer and hope the land office in Sattahip doesn't't cause problems.
  8. would be nice if they extended this to retirees, personally we spend a lot of money in the local economy...
  9. Sounds like you didn't have to assemble, everything we got over the years if we didn't "glue and screw" with contact cement I ended up taking it back apart and applying glue to all screw holes and seams where things butted together using a Q tip as brush/applicator. Once the piece was glued and screwed they rarely if ever come apart.....On making holes for pipes and other thing in back, learned long ago to stuff steel wool around the pipes. Keeps rats and mice from coming in as they refuse to touch steel wool. Hard to find here and have been using the stainless scrubby pads which seem to work real well.
  10. We are in Bang Saray, American 70 with Thai wife 68 who had bad stroke 18 yrs ago. We been here 3 yrs now. You can hire a live in nurse for 20K baht a month. My wife suffers from Expressive Aphasia, lived in US for 43 yrs. We found a lady who speaks some English has drivers license and stays with us, she works 6 days a week, truthfully about 6 hrs a day. She has her own motor bike and gets food or small things at market. I was oilfield for 44 yrs, toxic <deleted>, hard life and doubt I will outlive my bride. Exactly why we are here, nobody is going to put her in a US nursing home after I am gone. I have little faith in my children, they have their own lives. Hospitals are good here and reasonable. Where ever you go, find high ground. Nothing less than 30 meters above sea level. CM is nasty hot in the summer (wifes from there) and being surrounded by mountains its like being in the bottom of a wok and breeze isn't much air pollution can't get out. Our meds, BP and other are cheap here, we eat well and enjoy the sea breeze, we're 50 meters above sea level east side of Sukumvit on a hill behind a small mountain.. WE chose the final stop wisely I think after being here 3 yrs.. Good luck to you.. My big issue revolve around my yearly retirement visa renewal. IMM at Jomtien have been quite good but last week I was disheartened at the mass of folks at IMM, many Russians trying to stay here and get visas. After very long wait in Q on a bad knee I gave up and had the visa service walk my paperwork through. Yea cost me 10,000 bt but my knee and hips were happy.
  11. earth worms hands down are best for kids, most of the dough balls don't stay on the hook well.
  12. Well we came from Texas where the water gets way warm, here I just bit the bullet installed the pool and roofed the whole pool and put a ceiling fan in the middle to keep flys and bugs away.. Also fiberglass insulation in ceiling.. Ended up with 400 meters of 25mm black tubing on roof to warm it up a little. Get very little leaves or trash in pool.. 13. There was last year but didn't seem to mean anything, appointment was 1030, hit the BKK bank and was there shortly after 10, they were not interested in my appointment slip, still once I saw IO and checked my docs in order was out before they closed for lunch..
  14. Ok wife and I laugh, noodle soup with pork balls... standard bowl 3 baht... buddy you want big bowl 5 baht... aloy mack.. yea it was 1975... but I still ask her for the 5 baht bowl... and she knows what I want..... Sorry but this just made me laugh.....you got more rice, bigger plate and maybe thicker cuts of chicken. Damn lad enjoy an quit yr bitchin...
  15. Been through this in 2022... 6 months, had to go back to US Embassy and get another Notarized statement of fact that the woman I married in 1976 is really my wife...(had all this when we retired in 2019 and all originals) Nope... they refused until we redid and we were told these only good for 6 months..
  16. Did this 2019 by coming here on tourist visa and then had to change to retirement. I used an agent in Chiangmai. But the thing I would highly suggest is before starting this, renew your passport. I had about 5 yrs left on mine but went ahead and renewed right before we departed USA.. The US Gov doesn't care if you renew before it expires..Aside from all you will need to do, its nice to know you got 10 years before screwing with passport issues...
  17. Personally I see having the yellow book and pink card is a good idea. Don't need my passport and my observation is when asked for PP or ID, they see the card and know I live here. To each his own..
  18. We are here as well for the last chapter. 43 yrs oilfield I have seen my share of bar stools and rent a bride options.. Wife wanted to stay Chiangmai, her home town...too smoky and too hot for too much of the year, much like Houston Tx..Just too damn hot. We ended up in Bang Saray, couple clicks from the sea, on a hill behind a mountain. A Navyhouse Moo Baan, very secure....some X-pats and mostly retired Thai Navy. Big C and Makro shopping within 15 minutes. Need infusion of western stuff, 30 minutes toll rd and we in Pattaya. 2 hrs to BKK. Yes Thailand has evolved a lot in last 50 yrs and we where we need to be.
  19. hydrogen peroxide diluted with water is stated to be helpful if root rot is a problem. lot of info on net about this...peroxide kills the bacteria around roots...
  20. Bought a 2019 Blazer here when we arrived, what you looking at 2.5 liter duramax? Yes Chevy left Thailand but parts are not and issue, MG took over the dealership in Rayong and they've done good work. Also once its out of warranty find a decent mechanic and rock on... FYI had zero trouble from my Chevy here. Suspect you will be happy with a used Chevy here. They pretty solid vehicles.. Oh yea this from someone who drove Toyota's for 40 yrs in USA...
  21. FYI..took glucosamine for 20 yrs, been taking astaxanthin 12 mg for last 10 yrs very big improvement in joint pain and mobility... Available Lazada not cheap but about same price as USA...
