  1. To each his own but we tip 20 baht to the people who help us always or more depending on situation. As others pointed out that amount doesn't mean a thing to us but it sure can help those at the bottom. FYI started at the bottom so know the drill. Also builds merit if that matters (does to us)
  2. Well I married a Thai girl in US after my discharge from USAF and 19 months in Thailand, prior to her I was a cuddly little dude and dated a lot of ladies in US as well as Thailand. I wasn't the hayseed GI who never had a girlfriend in USA then got lucky in Thailand and married the first lady he found. Anyhow dumb luck or whatever but we'll be officially married 50 yrs in 5 months. I spent 43 yrs of that traveling repairing drilling rigs in some really uncool places for extended periods of time. She took care of the home, kids and all the finances no mobile banking back then. I know very few women that could handle that no matter where they from. Anyhow she's 71 an I'm 73 now so I guess we both chose wisely. Retired here 6 yrs ago and buddy that chick still gets my motor running...
  3. Ours not very relevant to this but we were married in the First Presbyterian Church Bakerstown Pa USA May 1976. Was informed in 2014 during a funeral we were the most likely only mixed race marriage in that church ever. At the time I think my wife was only the second asian in Butler County. We were quite rural. But we still together
  4. The borax and sugar mixes always worked well. Buy the borax at Lazada or Shopee
  5. I was just discharged from Bangkok Hospital Pattaya today, I have had wellness done there and its not cheap, yesterdays adventure was endoscopic decompression. They did MRI and X-rays last week and MRI was 8000 Baht which I thought was reasonable for this place. Yesterday checked in at 9AM, put in a very nice room and they made sure I fasted, Surgery was 5 hours long where they shaved bone away from the nerves L3, L4, L5, I was oilfield for 43 years and there is a lot wrong with my back but They fixed what was causing all the pain. I was told up front 429,000 baht and that wasn't far off final bill, also told if no complications could go home the next day. I paid the money up front and when discharged there was additional 5000Baht which I consider reasonable. From the doctors to the nursing staff to cashier 4th floor everything was great, I was really impressed. They are far better than the treatment I or my wife went through in USA. I got the whole itemized bill as lady asked if I wanted it. My problem was resolved I am home and go back next Saturday to remove the stitches, Pain meds have wore off now and I am pain free. Good and Cheap don't go well together. I am self insured as both of us are walking pre-existing conditions and over 70, This facility did what was needed. Sadly back home the story is poor and expensive by what we have experienced unlesss you have really deep pockets.
  6. Now away from CM but when I retired here, Best Friend visa service was recommended by and old X-Pat. I used them and everything was great. They assisted with changing tourist to retirement showed me where to go to open bank account (that was 2019) and didn't need to leave the country.. My dealing with them was great..
  7. 50+years ago learned to go to the doc that bar girls all went to, they've seen it all and know exactly what to do and most likely will not get soaked on price..
  8. Got call this AM from BKK Bank Sattahip, my local branch asked me to bring my PP and yellow book. Went straight away and upstairs they had a small stack of papers from Xpats I guess. She found mine in the stack, asked for my yellow book, made a copy and returned, I signed it and left, took a total of 5 minutes.. The yellow book copy went in my stack..The lady said thank you very much and all your documentation is in order.. so for now alls well...
  9. Suspect they chose wisely here, The US offerings not what they used to be, and extremely expensive to maintain..
  10. Yep had a separate account for SS anyhow but used app to transfer to working account. That is not allowed now. We are X-GI with Thai wife who is invalid. Just this week we went to the local BKK branch and drained the SS accounts. WE're in our 70's now and wondering what will happen when we get older and less mobile. Guess we'll find out, I understand the need for security but still don't like it..
  11. Yea, we been together 50 yrs and will be till we're done. We met when I was stationed here and married in USA, she arrived on fiancees visa I got her in 1975.. She was a US resident till 2019 when we retired here. Met a lot of X GI-Thai couples in USA and most of them didn't last. But also met a few that had been married since the 60's & 70's and were going strong.. In that long marriage crowd there were a whole lot of characters both his's and her's. This gig isn't for everyone.. But sure hasn't been boring either..
  12. I have a Xpat friend who has been here for 30+ years, he had what he said was very good insurance until he used it. Pre-existing condition shot him down. He went to another company (this one is really good says he) same deal Ok till he needed it. Then denied due to pre existing conditions. We're all over 70 yrs old and personally my entire body is Pre-existing condition. I will use local hospital when necessary. I have funds stashed for when the time comes and will continue to pay as we go. Dealt with the same BS in USA and learned the hard way..
  13. We've bought the floor models at Home Pro and they have been great, never were plugged in and never had issues 6+ years so far. Also great service if you have a problem..
