  1. Last year, my wife and I arrived into Heathrow's terminal 4 and she was subjected to a bit of a grilling about why she has a tourist visa and not an EEA Family Permit. I posted quite a long thread about this on Thaivisa when we got back to LoS.

Anyway, we are thinking of returning for a few weeks next year (2008), and we want to apply for an EEA Family Permit (issued free) instead of a £80 tourist visa.

It is really worth it to try and get this permit? I mean, I'm sure there is a mountain of paperwork to submit for a permit compared to a tourist visa, which itself is no easy feat!!

    * Has anyone been down this road with the UK embassy here?

    * Is it worth the hassle to apply for an EEA Permit instead of a tourist visa?

Any input would be gratefully appreciated. Thanx.

  2. Combined with the bumbling, uncaring, greedy management at UBC and the wonkers at the BBC, is the Platinum package (B2,000++) really worth it now?

UBC just recently added a few channels (Disney, other HBOs etc etc), and I thought yee haa, more televisual entertainment included in the package (don't forget, I'm platinum package). Phoned up UBC and was told that I had to pay more. Language used would make a docker blush!!

  3. I'm not overly religious, but I do believe firmly in Judgement Day where everyone has to account for all their sins and wickedness. What justice on earth can't mete out, the other side is waiting. Let's see what your millions in the bank, your top policeman or your connections can do then, eh?

London has its Chinatown, Hanoi has the French Quarter, Singapore has Little India and New York has Little Italy. Hel_l will have its Thaitown.

    You're fcuked!!

  4. I am planning to travel from kula lumphur to bangkok by train I would like to travel 1st class sleeper if possible

You will need to take two trains to cover the Kuala Lumpur-Bangkok route:

The Malaysian KTMB-run Langkawi Ekspres plies the Kuala Lumpur-Hat Yai route. This train offers first-class sleepers from Kuala Lumpur to Pedang Besar (i.e. the Malaysia-Thailand border). Take first-class to Pedang Besar and then a third-class seat for the short hop from the border to Hat Yai.

The Thai SRT-run International Express plies the Butterworth-Bangkok route. This train offers first-class sleepers from Hat Yai to Bangkok (i.e. not all the way from Butterworth).

Only 2nd class seats between Butterworth and Hat Yai on the International Express (36)

  5. Homesick isn't exactly how I would describe it, more like nostalgia.

Well put. I agree 100% (but if anyone is back in the UK soon, bring us back a Toffee Crisp and 20 B&H!!!!) :o

  6. Have constantly been checking the Air Asia website especially the link to their flights to Australia, Europe, China and India etc. Looks excellent (although I suspect all will be via KL). They promised to launch the service in mid 2007 and still nothing either on the website or in the air! Has anyone heard anything on the grapevine about these new, low cost routes?
