Putting pub brawls behind to become a ministerial aide
Public Health Minister Chaiya Sasomsap Chaovarat Chanweerakul on Monday defended a decision to appoint a bully son of the Interior Minister as an aide in his ministry.
Interior Minister Chalerm Yoobamrung's son Wan is slated to become the assistant secretary to Deputy Interior Minister Chaovarat Chanweerakul. The appointment will be formalised in tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.
"In the past, society saw this boy in a scary way but I see him as a well-mannered and polite boy," Chaiya said.
He compared Wan to Ong Kuliman, a notorious bandit in the Buddhist scriptures who reformed and reached enlightenment.
He said he would designate Wan as a presenter in the awareness campaign against drinking and smoking, praising him as role model who has turned to public service after involving in pub brawls.
The Nation
Just sums up the politicians and system here, doesn't it? Pathetic, absolutely pathetic. Just glad I do not want to raise a family here.

Not sure for a TV, but for a Non Imm 'O' visa, submit it @9am, and collect the next day (at the security hut) @11am.

No. It has in fact moved to Pracha Uthit Road, Wangthonglang (between Ratchadaphisek and Ramkhamhaeng roads). The best way to get there by public transport is to take the underground to Huai Kwang. Exit at Pracha Uthit Road and then get a taxi (about 2 kms).
It is, in fact, very close (2-3 mins walk) to the Lao embassy. So, if you can see this on a map in a side soi (http://www.bkklaoembassy.com/Map/map.htm), the Cambodian embassy is on the main road. It's behind a large pink wall.

And, YES, you can apply in Hull in person. Costs an extra tenner to do so (I think). You'll get the visa back in 10-20 minutes!!

I'd love to start a survey:
Why are you REALLY learning Thai?
1) Because I want to learn the language so I can speak with the locals
2) To get a 1 year ED visa
3) Both of the above
If the ED visa was abolished, what would you do?
1) Continue studying
2) Stop studying
-
Maestro, hopefully people want to learn Thai but reading some of the post to this forum it appears it is about the easiest and longest duration visa one can obtain. If people use it for a visa scam, a visa for learning Thai may become harder to obtain.
Well said, that man!
Most language schools posted on the net advertise the 1 year Non Imm ED visa. OK, that should be a perk, not a reason. I studied Thai at a school in my area which offered a yearly ED visa. A load of people paid for the year, got a visa and never turned up again!!
This easy visa route is soon gonna come crashing down!!

I've used Jack's Golf visa run service to the Cambodian border more than once. Not too bad, the "lunch" buffet on the other side of the border was a bit nasty, the buses arent really designed for a tall farang as myself but it was smooth. I was barely into my cold fried egg and hot dog when they guide came and got us and we were back on our way.
Is it just me, I giggled a bit after going to their website and then I said Jack Golf out loud, maybe I am just being juvenile.
Wow!! The bus used for my trip was a double-decker with tons of leg room and a seat that reclined to almost 180 degrees! The buffet at the border hotel was better than average. There were many choices of food (incl spaghetti bolognese). The grub wasn't great, but then again, it was free and plentiful. We had plenty of time (maybe too much) in the hotel. Big A became Bigger A!!
I know border runs are a real pain in the hole, but I would definitely use Jack again.

Does anyone have some alternatives to Jack Golf ????????

Actually, this is my first time ever with Jack Golf to Ban Laem. Will keep you posted as to how the trip went with regards to service, attitude, efficiency, politeness, punctuality and driver standards.
REPORT
Service: Excellent. Met and offered free coffee while paperwork was done for me
Attitude: Always willing to help
Efficiency: Was 10 mins late in departing and 1 hour late in getting back (even there was hardly any people at the border)
Politeness: 100%
Driver standards: Not bad (for a Thai!!
). Went pretty quickly on the country roads with a few scary overtaking moments. However, he slowed way down on the motorway coming back (

Here

was a proposed map of the entire Bangkok underground system. It looks very similar to the London 'tube' map. Imagine, just imagine, if we had an underground like this? No more traffic woes. Pigs will be flying over blue moons in a frozen hel_l before this is ever thought of again!!

Settle down and take a good natured jibe. Life's too short!

*Anyone know of a moderately priced (800-1200THB) hotel near the Thai Embassy in KL?
*What time are the visas ready the next day?
*How long of a drive from that area to the LCC terminal?
*Any nice dining/entertainment options near by?
* Anyone do this run recently?
*Anyone want to do the work in Google Search for me?

I live out in the Bangkapi area and was overjoyed to hear that the Orange line would be completed in 6 years. That was 4 years ago, and although plenty of potholes, no subway.
Nothing surprises me any more!

^^
100% spot on!

Errrrr, help, visa experts!! I have a Non Immigrant MULTIPLE ENTRY O visa. Do I need a plane/onward ticket when re-entering Thailand at Ban Laem (Cambodia)?

Would be nice if it gets implemented...so many people criticized Thaksin's megaprojects, but they are very much necessary for this country to progress. With the upcoming ASEAN+China railway project, Thailand could make a lot of money from trade.
Thais find it hard to look beyond even tomorrow (never mind the near future)!!
