  1. Pretty sure Wise T&C's specifically say you, the customer, do not get the same protections as you might with a bank. They are not a bank. They are a currency holding, in some currencies with a full IBAN account number such as GBP and Euros but not Thai baht and currency exchange internet outfit.
  2. Government ones, outpatient departments, round these parts ( Kalasin and Khon Kaen) are very, very busy and crowded although there is enough seating whilst you wait. Get a ticket, wait your turn. Go early, very early might get you through before their lunch break. In patient too unless you pay for a VIP room! Private hospitals I don't yet know.
  3. I'm very surprised you suggest this for private hospitals eg Bangkok group. But is certainly true in government hospitals outpatient departments. There you get your records and a ticket number and wait your turn. Which can be hours. During which the number and name calling is monotonous. That's why tomorrow I am setting off at 4 am to take sister in law to her monthly eye specialist " appointment" at an enormous Khon Kaen government hospital with a dedicated eye clinic to which she was referred by our local one. Just so she can get an early ticket. Past experience though is that being processed doesn't actually start until around 8.30. and every time so far we haven't escaped before 3pm. The doctors all go for a lunch hour too at 1pm. It's hardly better at our " local" hospital at Yang Talat, about the same at Kalasin. As Thailand has no state GP system these places are nearly always packed with outpatients all with an " appointment" for 9 am. The alternative may be tiny small private clinics where Thais have to pay too and round here most can't afford to. There you get seen quite quickly. Round here these are usually run by the same government hospital doctors outside their normal hospital hours. But for anything out of the ordinary requiring tests they will still tell you to go to the hospital. Only experienced private hospitals here once. Seen almost immediately after registration formalities, necessary tests done, prescription meds supplied and the bill in quickfire succession. No follow up appointment, just told to come back if I didn't improve.
  4. I get the impression they already have. Quietly courting Putin too.
  5. The notice to do, with the date, a 90 day report is folded and stapled in to my passport. Takes up the best part of a page. Guess when I either leave or do a 90 day report I can remove it. If the latter and done in person I presume the IO would remove it and staple in a new one.
  6. And they want to send you an OTP to log in each time. Sent to the number you have linked to the account, which must be a Thai number. You can't log in without that OTP. Apart from this I find the app simple and very useful. There is a payment link in it which takes you to your chosen bank. But again at least with my bank they too require an OTP, which again must be a Thai number, to complete payment. I haven't discovered how to set up automatic direct debits here. Anyone know how?
  7. I have read that Putin will be visiting Thailand soon. Will the Prime Minister take that opportunity to broker a settlement whereby Ukraine has its Russian annexed territory restored, Russian troops withdraw with a ceasefire and the Russian authorities submit to paying reparations and to a a war crimes investigation?
  8. Not the only one mate. The GB£ is also with the new British PM and her kamikaze Chancellor.
  9. So it is definitely the case that if the application for 1 year retirement non O extension is accepted on say the 15 of September, even though applying 30 days early and the extension actually runs until 13 October of next year, you must keep the account at or above 800k for the next 3 months up to on the above example the 15th of December. Then you can reduce it to not less than 400k over the next 6 months but most top it up again to 800k by the 15th of June of your extension, being the last 3 months running up to your next earliest possible 1 year extension application? Sorry to flog this one but it could tragic to confuse the application date for the extension and the stamped expiry date of the extension for these seasoning requirements.
  10. Not all Thais have passports and if they do until ,10 year ones instead of 5 year are issued its all too easy to find the passport has expired with no time to renew before needed. Surely a valid Thai ID card would be enough? It has been in the past
  11. Of course! Widen the road and squeeze in even more stinking tour buses full of Chinese.
  12. Yes. Even as a Brit entering UK on a British passport ( I have no others) where it never works in the e gates I have been subject to several questions after revealing I am not resident in the UK. My most recent entry on a Thailand Paris Embassy issued single entry 90 day non O " Thai spouse" e-visa to Thailand at Suvarnabhumi, my second entry on such a visa this year, was a breeze ( unlike the online process of applying for it which was not) even with a ( very attractive) female IO. And yes, my passport is full of Thai entry and departure stamps and a Laos visa too from when I did a visa run there. Had no trouble then converting it to a 1 year permission to stay based on retirement either.
  13. Same here. Too many of these little shops operating on tiny sales and tiny margins. Buy at a slightly larger better organised shop a couple Kms away then sell to the local locals who don't even have a motocy for a couple of baht more. As an example cigs in 711 63 baht pack of 20. Larger " supermarket" in the boonies 70 baht, locals local shop 75 baht or they'll break a pack and sell you just 5 or 10. Same with beer and Lao kao, the latter my MiL sells by the tot to the needy at 5 baht. Gasoline in those reused 75cl whisky bottles too to the motocy lads: half a bottle 20 baht. Full bottle 40 baht......the markup is better on gasoline waiting for a car crash in the stand in front of the shop.
  14. Yes, after decades it seems they've had enough of stoned tourists.
  15. Can't say I've ever visited or stayed in any of the listed hotels and resorts. May be my budget of never more than 3,000 baht a night, usually rather less, has something to do with that???? cheap Charlie? Yeah that'd be me????
  16. Wow! Well now, I'm British with French residency and French healthcare. Does that mean the French cover my health needs here. A link to the source of this statement would be really helpful.
  17. In truth I can't really see why you should have to. Shouldn't both be in their computer systems, claimed now to be up to international standards ( whatever they me be). Why still the need to sacrifice trees?
  18. Thanks for clear answers Dr Jack54. All as I thought
  19. Ha ha that will teach me !
  20. Yes. I bought an AIS tourist SIM at Suvarnabhumi. There was a choice of speeds at different prices and unlimited data. Can't remember the speed I purchased but I'm paying 88 baht a week for it. Been fine.
  21. How strange that they cannot do TM 47 90 day report at the same time. Last month I converted a 90 day non O by marriage visa entry to a 1 year retirement extension at Kalasin IO. I got a notice stapled in my passport reminding me that I would need to report again on 14 December, which is 90 days after my extension application was accepted, not from when the extension actually runs judging by it's expiry date in October 2023. Questions if I may 1. so does that count as a first 90 day report so that I can register for and use the online system or must I do the next one in person? 2. If I leave Thailand and return with re entry permit the permission continues but the " clock" for the 90 day report is reset to 0. 3 As I came in on a new visa my wife did a TM 30 notification of foreigner staying at our home. I may have misunderstood the IO but if I understood correctly this no longer needs to be done again these days unless and until either a) we/I move our residency permanently, not just for a few weeks away here nor even if we/I leave Thailand as long as I return to this address during the validity of the extension I now have or b) If for some reason I cannot renew or have not renewed and must start all over again. Thanks in advance.
  22. 555 yes! Wailing banshees! A near neighbour likes to hold private karaoke events 2 or 3 times a month and of course they are loud. Mostly wailing banshees but there is one female and one male who are actually good singers. They sing traditional Thai/ Isaan songs beautifully and I enjoy listening to them.
  23. Exactly. As far as I know all other visa types obtained outside Thailand can only be used once to enter Thailand within that visa's validity. Entry cancels it in return for the permission to stay stamp of x days. That permission can be extended but leaving the country will cancel it without a re entry permit, single or multiple, obtained before departure either at your nearest Immigration Office or at Suvarnabhumi airport. It does not extend your permitted stay, merely keeps it alive. The permit is not a huge hassle to obtain, nor is there much paperwork. Much easier than starting all over if your existing permission to stay has many months left on it unless you will be out of Thailand when your existing permission expires.
