I guess you could get estimates for various medical procedures and operations and figure out whether you can afford them by paying out of pocket rather than have insurance. I know someone who does that, whereas I still have insurance through my company. Talking about in Thailand only. My mother had private insurance, which boasted wonderful things, but when she was diagnosed with cancer, the insurance company refused to pay for treatment.

Thai Man Appeals for Help Repatriating Overstaying Russian Family

No mention of the kids' mother or relatives they could stay with in Russia. Can he still be conscripted if there is no one to care for his children? -

What is the government going to do? Giving debtors the ability to borrow more or default on loans is foolish. Also commercial banks have clearly not filtered out risky borrowers. It's a terrible position for everyone. -

I take it the customers were mainly Thais then? No Brits or Swiss were hurt in the making of this story.- 30 replies

Watched The War of the Worlds recently. English and French production so English subtitles when the French speak. Tense and thrilling. Be warned, the aliens kill everyone, whatever the age. P.S. Gabriel Byrne is excellent.

I can't find any record of her ever holding a job outside politics. Her father held many entrepreneurial jobs, but it seems, at 37 years old, she hasn't been employed in a business. Anyone know more than this? -

Where do foreigners fit in the Thai hierarchy?
Purdey replied to bob smith's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Westerners and Easterners (Asians) are thought of differently. Africans, more differently. Westerners are respected but can never be Thai. Asians are similar and 'understand' Thais. Africans are worst in their eyes. Remember how Tiger Woods refused Thai nationality because of how his mum was treated for having a child with a black American? Thais make wild assumptions about westerners. So many examples of how different we "aliens" are: - You are so rich because your government gives you FREE money when you are old - you get FREE medical care and education - you squeeze the toothpaste tube from the end not the middle (someone actually said this to me) But in the hierarchy westerners are respected for all being rich, polite and caring (more than a Thai guy). -

Not accepting foreign credit cards
Purdey replied to maxx58's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
I understand that if you don't have a local bank then you're at the mercy of local retailers - though credit card companies don't allow retailers to add fees to their cards. When I use a Thai credit card in Vietnam the hotel charges the fee and I don't have much choice if I am leaving for the airport. If you are retired here you must have a bank account and can use the ATM card as a debit card to pay -
I still use Windows 7 at home and zero Microsoft applications. It has an XP and an Android emulator just in case. Just add a virus scanner and it's still good. We use Windows 11 at work and it is fine for M$ Office use. I have 2 very old PCs that I have used Linux flavors on but all require some knowledge of their operating system as they are too old for Ubuntu and Suze. Stick with Windows 7 if you can.

If Trump is right, that he has total presidential immunity for any action, then Biden is within his rights to assassinate Trump and get away with it. Just a thought.
