  1. Many years ago, before I put cameras in my cars, a young car driver pulled out and hit the front left corner of my car. A policeman stopped to find out what happened and I could hear the kid telling the policeman in Thai, "He's a farang, make him pay." I told the policeman, in Thai, that the boy pulled out without signalling and if you check the front of my car you can see the angle at which he hit me. The boy complained that he and his girlfriend were in a hurry to get to university for an exam. "What subject are you taking?" asked the policeman. "Law," said the boy. With a lot of sangfroid, the policeman looked at him and said, "I wouldn't be in a hurry. You would have failed."
  2. Tea is a plant based drink but isn't mentioned. I wonder why they differ?
  3. Well, it is a short term action that does not help Thais in the long term. They could add it to each person's Social Security savings, which will benefit them over the long term. But then, that would be too simple.
  4. Mitigate the 30% tax saving with the steep fall in share prices.
  5. I was watching videos of flat-earthers this morning explaining that NASA and all the other space agencies are making it all up. The flat-earthers look at photos of the earth and the planets and say they are fake. Now, those who think rising temperatures are somehow not true simply don't want to look for evidence.
  6. If any individual or organization thinks they have a case against a company, they have the right to litigate. That's democracy. When you read that this or that politician or high profile person is a crook, you don't hear later that a member of the public sued. I wish they would. But these people are concerned about the environment - whichever class they belong to - and they went ahead with the case, which is something I admire. If you accuse, and have the evidence to back it up, go for it.
  7. Similar to major cities globally, the homeless are to be found everywhere. You can't make them illegal without putting thousands in prison. I am not even sure many want to join the rat race but mental health issues probably affect a lot. What have developed countries done to mitigate this problem?
  8. How swiftly was this minister on the case exactly? The government took over the University in 2023 because of this cheating, so presumably it had been going on for a long time before 2023. Not swift at all.
  9. If he had lied he would have been caught out by the evidence and taken to court surely? Instead, people without evidence keep repeating he lied as if that means much.
  10. Why is this news? No one cares about the shenanigans of the royal family nowadays.
  11. Can't expect superiors to rub shoulders with the people who pay their salaries I suppose. But what about this economic crisis I keep hearing about? Is it over then?
  12. Honestly, who hasn't had sex in public or in a car?
  13. Foreign criminals need to be banned. Come to think of it, every member of their family should be banned too. Blood runs thicker etc. Let them have a family meeting and say, "What have you done to us Frank? What did we do in Thailand? Nothing except have you as a family member."
  14. Tourism is the key focus of the Thai government - not human resources development, not high technology. I feel that locals here wish westerners would just leave their money at the airport and immediately fly back
  15. All the talk about weed doesn't explain how they are going to give jobs to the people they will throw out of work, from farmers to shop owners. Talk about throwing oil onto the economic fire.
  16. Psst, don't tell anyone but there are two horseracing tracks in Bangkok. Schtum
  17. Why do people get so addicted to alcohol?
  18. Not bashing. It became normal for Thais to screwdriver foreign parts together. I have yet to read of a Thai engineer designing a car. Perhaps you can name the Thai brand.
  19. Seems like the tide maybe going against Chinese EVs elsewhere. https://www.instagram.com/reel/C8_kmrzs6ud/?igsh=YnU0cmF1a3kwcnIx
  20. So you don't think working class Thais will suffer most from all the alcohol available? Check out the articles of husband's killing wives while smashed. Then imagine many more drunken husbands.
  21. My only wish is for Labour to save the NHS. Raising taxes on billionaires is fine but too high and the South of France will beckon. Frankly, Starmer is not the PM one could have wished for. Much too flighty. Changes direction with the wind. I noticed that Jeremy Corbyn kept his seat in Islington as an independent so him and Farage will provide Starmer with some very exciting PMQs I am sure.
  22. Yes, but if Taiwan is considered part of China, then it was not an enemy vessel. It would be like a Songkhla ship being stopped at Bangkok Port.
