  1. Is Brunei still in ASEAN? Won't they get upset at not being mentioned?
  2. Beginning to sound like the Biden Briefcase Affair. Expect it to evaporate likewise.
  3. One of the principles of capitalism is supply and demand. The Chinese are able to supply at a price the Thais demand. How can it be stopped by government interference? Isn't that communism?
  4. It is sad to see people discussing climate change without understanding the basics. 1. Climate change is measured by taking the temperatures marked since collecting data started 100+ years ago. 2. Climate change is the average temperature globally over time. 3. It is not the temperature of Thailand alone, or any single country or city. 4. It is not about the weather in any month or season. Having said that find a graph of global temperature change over the past century and note that it continues to rise on average.
  5. Interesting that this comes right after engineers pointed out mistakes in their aircraft construction.
  6. I love the intense and rational debates on ASEAN Now.
  7. Next election has to be a clean sweep for the new party. People are really upset by the treatment Move Forward received. I do wish they would propose laws that won't get them dissolved.
  8. You can avoid getting vaccinated by chaining up the dog for a few days (not forgetting to feed it) to see if it starts frothing at the mouth. I got bitten and had the rabies vaccination many years ago. 1. Went to Chulalongkorn Hospital and bought the vaccine over the counter. You need several injections. I think it was six but don't quote me. 2. Get a local doctor to inject it. He can keep the vials in his fridge for you.
  9. Plain yogurt with blueberries and a chopped up apple. Same every day. Two cups of coffee with metformin.
  10. Honestly? Certainly not 5 years in prison. Fines are more acceptable. Keep prison for the violent guys burning police stations and cars.
  11. There are social groups in Bangkok. Most can be googled. There is also the British Club in Silom, but you have to pay to join.
  12. There are loads seeking asylum but they are called refugees here.
  13. Go to the hills above Mae Hong Son. There are villages of migrant Kuomintang soldiers who fled the communists in the 60s and sought asylum here. I met members of a Vietnamese enclave in Suphanburi who are not allowed to leave a specific area. They came seeking asylum from the communists.
  14. Why did he choose an entertainment company to arrange a debate? Why not Saturday Night Live?
  15. Really hard to get my head around the concept that they have been held without trial for over 20 years. Everyone baying for blood here. Yet 730 men have been released without charge from Guantanamo, often after having endured years of suffering and abuse. Doesn't that mean they were innocent all along? https://5pillarsuk.com/2021/10/27/innocent-karachi-taxi-driver-released-from-gitmo-after-17-years/ https://reprieve.org/uk/campaign/guantanamo/faq/#:~:text=730 men have been released, years of suffering and abuse.
  16. Diplomats have always tried to get all sides' opinions.
  17. Funny that for a traffic violation issued by a policeman, you get a ticket. Speed cameras send the photo and fine to your house. How many ways are there to ignore a violation? If they could deduct the fine from the 10,000 Baht app it would make a lot of sense.
  18. It must be difficult to be neutral if you are a government trying to defend a minority under attack in response to a Welshman killing three kids. Whatever Starmer does will be seen as wrong. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/crime/southport-stabbing-court-murder-hearing-b2589422.html https://www.reuters.com/world/uk/clashes-uks-southport-after-killing-three-girls-leaves-many-police-injured-2024-07-31/
  19. Why does it have to be done by bombing foreign countries. Diplomacy overseas, yes, I agree, just not bombing Iraq, Iran and so one. None of them is capable of bombing the USA. The Brookings Institute did so well advising the government in Vietnam and Afghanistan,I suppose.
  20. If a defense budget is to defend the Homeland, why not spend on weapons based on the mainland and Hawaii?
  21. Weird. They hold a peaceable protest and get five years. Elsewhere in the UK, extremely violent protesters get...
  22. Can't wait for December.
  23. I admit that I feel sorry for him. Trump is really too old to work so hard. He should be looking at retirement with a free bed, three hot meals a day and a few hours in the exercise yard.
  24. Condoms help not only to prevent pregnancy but STDs too. Just read that Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) injections twice a year are 99% effective at preventing HIV but I guess it's not everyone's choice.
  25. The fact Iraq is mentioned is interesting as Iraq was not an ally of Iran before the Gulf War.
