  1. You can see the overview of data protection laws in the link below. Personal info includes your photo (not talking about personal photos). It is especially notable that children under the age of 20 must receive parental consent before using their personal information. Publishing a clear photo without consent where the subject appears involved in a criminal offence is risky for the media as they could get sued for defamation. Which is why they usually blur the faces of alleged prostitutes. The photo Thai PBS showed has nothing to suggest it was published with permission. https://www.dataguidance.com/notes/thailand-data-protection-overview
  2. I don't suppose they have to buy new aircraft because the current board hasn't received any kickbacks yet? Nah, can't be that.
  3. From outside the US, people may want a plain vanilla president who doesn't create controversy every hour. Boring, steadfast Biden seems to meet that bill.
  4. Hundreds of years ago, low-ranking soldiers did not wear trousers or shirts. The tattoos on the legs were to make them feel less undressed (read it somewhere many years ago). Women have tattoos it seems because they like them. I have explained to an educated friend that tattoos above the neck at interviews may not go down well. Ignored me because she likes it and wants to feel good.
  5. I do wish people would not throw around the word traitor so frequently when they really mean "someone I don't like." The Constitution* is very clear on what constitutes treason and involves aiding an enemy the U.S. is at war with. The U.S. is not at war with any country at present. However, there are many countries that the U.S. "dislikes". *Article III, Section 3, Clause 1: Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort.
  6. Feeling uncomfortable that people without their faces blurred are shown in the article's accompanying photo. That looks illegal in light of current privacy laws. Unless they gave written permission.
  7. South America is indeed a case in point where the USA got rid of elected governments to install "their" boy. Thailand was a potential domino in Southeast Asia so their "influence" is heavily felt here, and possibly why they have not flatly condemned military coups in the past. I guess they like Pita. “He may be a son of a b1tch but he’s our son of a b1tch.” Cordell Hull referring to Somoza
  8. I have used them before and they are good. Took a while to find them as they are in a housing estate.
  9. I cannot think of a time when a politician has stated he is not confident. His boss Mr. T was confident before being ejected from parliament. Now he is confident that the military-dominated Senate will choose him. Prayut was confident everyone would vote for him. Thaksin is confident he will return in July.. Never known such rampant confidence.
  10. Our social habits are molded by our parents and teachers first, then friends, As the current older generation are showing a lack of concern for others, it is not surprising their kids are also showing antisocial attributes.
  11. With horse racing and lottery tickets the most popular forms of gambling, it appears authorities are not really concerned with gambling and more with getting their cut of illegal casinos.
  12. Word goes around Thailand like wildfire, "Hey guys, they tipped us off! Good thing we paid that advance warning insurance."
  13. Funny as I remember reading of Romans carving their names into British monuments a thousand years ago, so it is payback time.
  14. See the police and be told that you are rich so hire Thai people to help. If you form a business, she 51%, you 49%, there still isn't a guarantee you could do laboring work like mow the grass. I have read of volunteers helping poor people who were deported for working without a work permit.
  15. Exactly what I was thinking. Too many eager people here wanting to crow over her miscarriage.
  16. I am sure the police have a list of probable causes of death. Boat accident Suicide Family argument Business conflict Burmese kids
  17. Am at a loss for words that anyone thinks Marijuana leads to addiction or violent behavior. Makes you hungry, yes. Sleepy yes. Good for people with diseases that cause a loss of appetite but hardly a menace to society.
  18. Still, Thailand plays no role in encouraging Burma to become civilized.
  19. It comes down to the same issues as in every country. If the plaintiff has evidence, he must present it to the court. The court will consider it and come to a decision based on facts presented. If the evidence is insufficient, Pita will be free. If Pita broke the law he will suffer the consequences. I see nothing wrong in principle with the plaintiff saying he has evidence and going to court to prove it. If everyone is certain ITV is not a media company there is no problem but it changed from dormant to a television media business in 2022 then in 2023 changed again to be an "advertising media and returns from investments" business (Time has an article on this). Let's not forget Pita's father died in 2006. How long does it take to transfer shares? InTouch would have accepted then. I want Pita to be PM but feel he and his boss are too cocky, when they should have got rid of everything that could cause questions. Even hired a lawyer to dig into all their assets.
  20. We live in interesting times. The army doesn't care if it has to shoot a few hundred pesky kids. They are not the whole country. Meanwhile, AN commentators will hunker down and wait for the blood to be washed from the streets and continue as before.
