  1. Doesn't answer my question, but yes, of course you're right. If they raised entrance fees to museums and parks in Thailand to 10,000 baht for foreigners, it wouldn't bother me.
  2. Of course it is. Then again, would you also support tourists (incl. from Thailand) paying 8-10x what locals pay in your country? And what do you think the Thai tourists, or Thai media would say to that?
  3. If you were denied entry, what was the reason given? "Staying too long", or "you're here with the wrong visa"? - If the latter, then, probably, a pre-arranged visa may solve the problem.
  4. Charging foreigners more than locals is not only a Thai thing. I remember paying more as a foreigner in New Zealand. Yet, I still have to travel to another country that, like Thailand, charges 8x or 10x the locals' price.
  5. "Thailand eyes record 2 million Russian tourists despite geopolitical tensions" Time for Thailand to see an ophthalmologist...
  6. So, what entertainment venues are there at U-Tapao Airport; stewardess strip clubs?? (Asking for a friend.) Or is that another pointless permit?
  7. In other social media news, a bag of rice fell off a counter in China yesterday, resulting in rice all over the floor, which then lead to heated discussion in Thai media, with both, angry and confused posts, and people complaining about the wastage...
  8. Banks in the malls should be open Sat/Sun. As for the other branches, closed this Friday, the weekend, and next Tuesday, also Monday IF they make it a public holiday. I am not sure whether all mall branches are open over the public holidays.
  9. Sometimes I'm just glad that banks here neither will lend me 1 satang, nor that they will accept me as a guarantor for loans...
  10. Same here. Apart from not asking people whether they 'twitter' anymore, but whether they 'XXX'...
  11. I'm not very optimistic in this regard, but I hope that scientists will find a way, 'last minute', to "suck" CO2 out of the atmosphere, thereby cooling it down...
  12. My thought too. Would be much more interesting to know how much of it, and for what they spent the money. Strange that only revenue is mentioned. Are they out to make a big 'profit' like a private enterprise?
  13. Too late! If I had known earlier, I could have booked a hotel room for five nights, helping out the local economy a bit. Instead I have other plans for this weekend now, just staying at my residence, not a hotel.
  14. Yes, I personally suffer from Thaidingdongphobia, and I wouldn't drive in Bangkok if they paid me to...
  15. No need to visit an Isaan village. Plenty of people 'listening to sounds, or watching this and that all day' in Bangkok too...
  16. Not to mention the regular lottery. On or after pay-day people lining up to buy lottery tickets rather than food, or a new shirt, both of which some of them seem to be more in need of than lottery tickets...
  17. Yes, I've also seen families living in tin-shacks, while outside a brand-new Merc or BMW was parked... People clearly have different priorities in this country.
  18. I was wondering about that too. If so, then the headline is pretty misleading: "Chinese Man Arrested Smuggling Ice at Suvarnabhumi Airport..."
  19. They can always double room rates if only half the expected tourists arrive...
  20. LOL. What's next? When people in Bangkok, or the South want to show that they don't support parties popular in the Northeast, will they stop eating Som Tam?
  21. Not sure what is 'booming', but the Chinese economy reportedly is not. But who knows, maybe (the Thais think that) the Chinese will hand over whatever money they still have to Thailand...
  22. I don't see why this should be a problem. Reportedly, Thais are as optimistic about (their) economic situation as they haven't been for more than a year, 'everyone' has a job (supposedly an unemployment rate of only 1%), news media report record rice- and durian exports, as well as record tourist numbers every other day, and banks keep loaning money to everyone and their dog, no matter whether people are already over their head in debt, or not... So, why would this be a concern?* *Beware: sarcasm!
