maybe time for a green card system and start collecting tax. Let anyone work that wants to and let anyone hire anybody they choose.

ever think that it may just be that the illegals are fleeing the country,
those here legally are not?

I hope this means that foreigners won't have to pay higher prices to go to national parks and the like,
that's the one double standard I really hate!

I don't think it's all about tourists getting all sweaty, there is just no plan nor rhyme or reason to how things are done.
God forbid you need a firetruck or an ambulance in this place. Every street is a dead end, just to turn around can take you km's
out of your way. It's a mess in so many ways and good for him for wanting to clean it up.
It's just so 3rd world!

it's just going to get worse. There will be fewer and fewer native speaking teachers to interact with the students.
It doesn't take a certified teacher or a degree to teach someone English, just look at how many bar girls speak
English better than many professors.
Screw the degrees and give those that want to teach an exam to see if they are proficient enough in the language to
teach it and provide a curriculum.
The more and more restrictions placed upon native speakers that won't be able to live here I think is definitely going
to have an impact.
There is a definite shortage of teachers where schools will and do hire people illegally, Those people won't be around
much longer and no one to replace them. Make is easier for people to work and let the schools decide who they want to
hire. The government obviously has not done a very good job at it so far.

Corrections Department chief Suchat Wong-anantachai urged prisons to conduct regular . . . . ? ? ? ? ? ?
He is "URGING" ? ? ?
If he's in charge of the prisons in Thailand, surely he should not be "urging", but "ORDERING", or am I overlooking something ?
Yes you're got to remember you're in Thailand!
sounds more like you've been ordered to do so and "I urge you to comply"

Only fascists call for bans.
Damn fascists wanting to ban mercury from vaccines, and DDT from the environment.
screw those fascist anti-GMO and GMO labeling freaks!
what the hell are you talking about?

I see alot of things here.
Lack of exercise from watching TV and playing games.
Pregnant women that eat monosodiumglutamate have smaller children.
With all the meat kids eat today I have no doubt acidosis is prevalent thus the expelling of calcium from the body,
this goes even more for the huge amount of phosphoric acid kids take in with drinking soda.
Studies have shown that kids IQ's drop over the summer in the absence of a learning atmosphere, which is everyday here.
To be fat here for some reason seems to be a long time cultural thing that you must be rich therefore accepted.
Quit selling crap to kids and teach the difference between something being sold to be put in your mouth and food.
Kids are taught to stay out of the sun for fear of having dark skin which is considered low class thus the lack of Vitamin D.
Synthetic vitamin D in milk is not the same and the milk proteins expel calcium from the body as well as create food allergies.

I wonder why they are talking about dioxin, it's Bisphenol A that is found in plastic that is carcinogenic.

what can we do to add conflict to Thailand's troubles?
Let's hijack one of their ships.
and this headline:
Australia reduces engagement with Thai military
Coincidence? For some reason I think not.

What lanes? That's not even a concept.

double parking!

Definitely looks like a picture outside of detention and who wouldn't want to share their experience on social medias?
It looks to me like they were treated fairly although as it was posted:
"It's a body and mind training [exercise] to stay in a new place without prior notice," Taya posted.
so I'm sure there was some serious stress going on in there as their futures were uncertain.
Easy for posters sitting at home to make light of the situation not having experienced it themselves.
Yes they look very happy, they should be, they are no longer caged up, good for them!

no-one would deny that the police need reforming, but isn't this is just the army clearing away opposition?
let's hope so. Isn't that the point, get rid of the cancer?
-
if it gets rid of the corruption and makes people accountable and having to take
responsibility for their actions, then I'm all for it.
This must be a very new concept for most people here.

30 baht healthcare. - Cost more than it was saving, so Abhisit abolished it so doctors could treat patients rather than do paperwork. Where did the 30 baht go?
Raised minimum wages. - For who? Bangkok only and then again no one followed it. It was supposed to be nationwide. then only degree holders. A promise that couldn't be kept.
Million baht per village fund. - Goes to the heads of the villages to keep support and create Red Shirt Villages. Vote red or your family is threatened.
Massive infrastructure investment (roads electricity etc). Where? A high speed rail for the rich built by a foreign country? What were the other upgrades?
OTOP for a national market for rural goods. - Any product that meets the standard can be sold under OTOP
1st car tax relief / kickback program - People buying cars that couldn't afford it. More traffic, more used cars flooding the market thus new car sales are way down.
Farm subsidies. - Right! The farmers didn't get paid.
What was your point again?

Where are the Suthep fans now?
Here's one!
Suthep saved the country from the amnesty crap passing and allowing absolute
corruption to take over and giving the totally corrupt government 2.2 trillion baht
with no accountability which would have thrown Thailand into 50 years of debt.
Well done Suthep, in my opinion you saved Thailand!

US is a busted flush.
How dare they moralise
With their lousy schools, obscene inequality, racism and cultural vacuum I have no interest in their opinion on anything
Hear, hear. They spout off about providing aid to Thailand in an amount which is about equivalent to what the leading contenders in the US spend on their election campaign...!! One has to wonder how the US would have dealt with a similar situation on its own soil. I dread to think of the death toll...!!
NO!
it's more like what they raise at a campaign fund raising dinner. 10 million is a drop in the bucket these days.
The US is worried they have lost their corrupt counterparts and it wouldn't surprise me if they went to great lengths
to interfere to restore them.

All those who were celebrating Martial Law on another thread, and the down fall of the Shinawatras - welcome to the real world. And next time, be a little more careful what it is you wish for!
Let's see, curfew vs the Shinawatras???
I'll take the curfew any day

Personally I think suspending the constitution was brilliant and right on time, and here's why...
Thaksin told Niwattumrong Boonsongpaisan that the constitution trumps martial law and therefore
didn't have to step down. So when Thaksin rejected Prayuth's proposal for the caretaker PM
to step down he had to do what he had to do. Som num na Khun Thaksin, you lost!
According to MIchael Yon, he posted on Facebook there is information that Thaksin's sister
and brother-in-law have fled the country.
So the plot thickens, but we still have Internet, so all's good!

can you imagine an American General 'Suspending the Constitution'? maybe in a US TV series but this is 'supposed to be' REAL LIFE
Try to remember the absent convict who was running the government from abroad via puppets ... that wouldn't happen in the US either!
Sent from my XT1032 using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app
I think actually it kind of is

I haven't been to Poipet in years, but I was always amazed at how fast it was growing with all the new buildings and all.
Obviously a supply and demand situation created by those the constantly had to do frequent trips to the borders.
I wonder if that's going to slow down. Rather than creating a great place to live, they seem to be set on doing the opposite.
Again, why don't they make it easier for people to work, collect taxes, create diversity and grow like the developed countries have?
Who knows, we'll just eventually see how it all turns out.

I ride my bicycle all around Bangkok, and that is one thing that always comes to mind,
"how would a firetruck or ambulance get here if needed?-".
How many people continue to die just because of poor planning or just too
lazy to do any planning? A sad situation indeed. RIP and condolences
Thailand to destroy massive ivory stockpiles ?

this concept of selling something illegal to something good sounds ok on the outside,
but to me it sounds like if you confiscated drugs, sell them for a profit and put that money
into a drug clinic or drug education.
Probably plenty of places to sell marijuana or opium and totally legal too I'm sure.
In the end there is still a profit market for something illegal somewhere.
I say destroy it and be done with it. Any new ivory that shows up would be obvious to spot.
