Tiger/dog your wokeness is very evident. Australia is a multi-culteral country and we have yanks, poms, chinks, aussies, square heads, japs scotties, abbos, ities, frogs, etc. We all address each other by these nickname and all get on well together. Is that being racist.?..I think not.

Majority of what is being said is true about the Chinese but it can only be started if the government turn a blind eye and make exception after exception for them to do it. Thailand call it grey business when in fact it is common it is illegal brought in by faction of Triads.
Many opinions here are justified as to why not to like the Chinese but yours " Chings " is obvious why for your dislike!
I dont have a particular dislike for Chinese people ..some of my best friends are owners/cooks at my favourite cafes.I dont where you are from but I am a 66 yesr old Australian and in these parts the abbreviation for Chinese people is commonly used and is not derogatory.

Good point about what the Chinese have done to Sianookville in Cambodia. I went there about 12 years ago and it was quiet little town with lovely beaches and cheap hotels and food. From what I have learnt the Chings have totally destroyed it.I dont think I want to ever go back there again.

Yep. Amazing how many people try to get food in. <deleted>. Don't know if you know this stuff but I took some natto (japanese fermented soybeans that really smells but I like it) into Aus. I declared it, they didn't know what it was, I openned up one package and the customs officer took several steps back, looked like they were going to throw up and basically said "go for Christ's sake go now". Always declare food going into Australia.
DINNO is right when coming into Australia you must declare any food, plants seeds etc that you have even if you think it might be o.k. They will tell you if you can keep or they confiscate,no problems or penalty.

What difference would a sign make with those highly skilled, highly trained and competent Thai drivers !!!

I agree..Many years ago I bought my Thai gf to Australia for a visit. I decided to show her the Gold Coast so a mate and his Thai wife joined us and we rented a lovely high-rise apartment on the beach. that afternoon we went to the pub and left the 2 women there .When we got back after a couple of hours my girl was gone. She had gone to the Casino . I knew that she liked to gamble back home and I intended to keep her away from the casino but she was too fast for me. I rang her phone a couple of times no answer and I decided not to go after her. So we stayed in the unit and at midnite I rang security and told them not to let her in and went to bed. Igot up at about 3am and there she was sitting on the beachfront in front of the hote.l When she saw me on the balcony she started yelling out and waving but I pretended that I didnt see her. It was in winter and there was a cold wind. I then went to bed and made her wait until 10 am to let her in. When she came in she was madder than a bear with a tooth ache.!!! That day we went out and she slept all day and was real quiet and sheepish and she would have been broke. Its fare to say that she learnt her lesson.. and this will surprise you all..NO apology.

there's a, now abandonded and boarded up, shopping centre at a crossorads in banglampu. it was built with more floors than permitted, these were removed and the building left in its sad, slowly decomposing state.
it begs the question how good are building inspectors at doing their job, or counting, if they dont notice that buildings have more floors than permitted?
What building inspectors..????..T.I.T.

Rats are no superpowers and hence they can be electrocuted if they chew on both wires at the same time. However, the main reason why they are less likely to be electrocuted is because they chew on one wire at a time. ... Also, you may protect electrical wires by placing covers around them
Sounds like you believed me too...just a little rat joke... lighten up a bit man !!

Suspect, just as with us, if contact is just between same part of the body it is a jolt rather than death (the one finger rule - used to be a standard test for 120v back in the 50's - stick one finger into lamp socket while rest of body insulated from ground - this was before they had easy tester screwdrivers) - it is when current goes through the heart that most deaths occur.
It is impossible for rats to be electrocuted because they are a protected by a natural rubber coating in their outer skin which completely insulates them from electric shock.

Nothing's going to happen in the next few months, not this year, but if the pandemic continues globally (and it certainly looks that way) and as more of the population gets vaccinated, then Thailand, and most other countries, will certainly make vaccination mandatory in order to get visas, and in my opinion, to renew visas for those foreigners already in the country. They may make exceptions to renew visas for any expats who cannot get vaccinated for medical reasons, but they are extremely unlikely to make exceptions for any unvaccinated Joe Blow tourist.
As for airlines not mandating vaccination for passengers, well Australia's Qantas has already stated several times that they are going to mandate it. And so will many other airlines. The most likely situation within another 1-2 years is unvaccinated people won't be able to do much at all other than stay home and watch TV. Proof of vaccination is going to be the only way to travel and attend concerts and get out into the world again.
21 hours ago, KarenBravo said:They won't have to. The airlines will make vaccination a mandatory requirement before flying international.
You are right about that. Qantas has already announced that they will at some stage make it company policy that all passengers will need to be vaccinated and they have just fold all staff that they have until November to get vaccinated or ...NO job.

Don't know about you, but I'm special, I have knocked back AZ and Sinovac, if I don't get Pfizer, I will wait for Moderna that I have paid for, no one is going to tell me what they want to give me, it's as simple as that, we all have choices, so suck it up, at least I stand my ground !
Good on you mate...its your choice .Hope you dont get the covid in the meantime.!!

There is very good reason to prefer one vaccine over another especially since they all are brand new and studies show vast differences in effectiveness.
The demand to get a vaccine out at the beginning of the Covid was so great that they had to develop them and test them and get them gov. approved as fast as possible. In normal times vaccines would be tested over about 5 years before they hit the public. If they didnt fast track the covid vaccs....and we had to wait 5 years how many people would have died in the interim.?? Also bear in mind that they are all certified by the relevent authorities.I have had the A.V. with no problems.

o.k That might be the case in Thailand but I was just making a general comment because there is so much garbage in Australia from idiots saying this vacc. is better than that one and then refuse both of them.

I dont know whats wrong with some people. We are in the middle of a pandemic and they want to select what brand of vaccination they must have . I would have thought any vacc. would be better than no vacc. When you go to the doctor to get a flu or a smallpox etc needle they dont give you a menu and ask you to pick what brand you want...NO .there is only the one kind...and you just accept it and shut up.

Yes that's exactly what I meant.Your hypothetical outline of events is also the most plausible explanation I've heard. It leaves of course the question of how my details were stolen in the first place. The whole episode has left me (I accept not completely logical )with a distrust of security levels of my Thai credit card provider and a determination to restrict use to minimum, combined with the facility I mentioned earlier of blocking the card when I don't need to use it.
If this happens in australia

So do be careful out there.
In australia, if this happens when you contact your bank they immediately cancel the card and issue a new one. They also have a system if a transaction appears on your account the bank will call you and if you live in Thailand and the charge was made in USA they will hold it and check whether it was actually you that used the card. So if you are going to another country you just advise the bank before you go. It has happened to me 3 times .
