Given the number of alcoholics in Thailand, I’m surprised this only has 4 pages so far.
I was thinking the same thing myself.

Airport managements in Thailand seem to be doing a good job trying to keep passengers socially distanced e.g. at gate lounges seats are clearly marked for social distancing but are the airlines doing the same? Proper social distancing could be critical in minimising the spread of Covid and particularly the new highly transmissible variant of the virus that is spreading fast in the UK.
On a flight to Chiang Mai today on a major domestic airline, at a time when there are worrying concerns about a resurgence of infections in different parts of Thailand, passengers were seated close together without any apparent concern for social distancing. There were three in our row, my partner and I and a Thai while across the aisle just one person sat in a row of three. In fact there was uneven seating throughout the aircraft. With more care passenger seating could be more evenly spaced.
On arrival at Chiang Mai all passengers on board our aircraft were off loaded onto just 2 busses. On our bus there was less than half an arm’s length between passengers, hardly social distancing. This lack of social distancing by airlines needs to be addressed.
Planes that are not full of passengers have to be loaded so as to balance the weight evenly throughout the cabin particularly for take off and landing.

From my experience, panels only produce 1/2 their rated value.
Depending on the quality of the solar panels European or Chinese I have been told that they have a life of only 15 to 20 years and they cant be recycled.

If you got space to spare and a bit of cash , solar is well worth it right now , because of the payback time is very low . There's always a few hurdles especially in Thailand , but you do good for the planet and in a few years good for your pocket also .
I have a question. would all the millions of dead solar panels that have passed their used by date be " good for the planet " when they are all dumped into landfill ?????

In my opinion you have to take the same precautions when walking around late at night or early A.M.in any city in the world .Dont stagger around in a dark alley drunk with your wallet hanging out of you back pocket , keep your wits about you if you are gonna approach suspect characters better to cross the street to avoid them , if you do meet them keep walking and dont make eye contact...IS Bangkok safe ..?? YES If you want an ununsafe city try Manilla..especially around Malate even during the day its not safe.

About 10 years ago I met a young 18 ? year old local girl in a bar in Phnom Penh . Just talkihg to her for a while I could tell that she had some problems. It turns out her mother SOLD her to an American man for $500 US .(a fortune to her poor farming family ) The girl was 12 years old !! After about 5 years of terrible abuse from her "husband " in the US she managed to escape and went to a shelter for help and they sent her home. When I asked her what she thought of her mother she replied that she hated her for tears but later realised that it was out of desperation and she had since forgiven her .That experience wrecked her life and here she was in the bar and sending money to support her family.I bet there are thousands of stories like that in Cambodia.Very sad and I have never forgotten that.

No national lockdown in Thailand: Prayut
Prime minister Prayut said on Thursday there is no national lockdown order planned for Thailand, although the government will “intensify” measures following the outbreak of COVID-19 in Samut Sakhon.
Speculation had mounted in recent days that Thailand would be plunged into lockdown after more than 1,000 cases had been reported in the country since Saturday, the majority of which are linked to an outbreak amongst migrant workers in Samut Sakhon.
However, speaking ahead of the Center for COVID-19 Situation Administration briefing, the PM said there were no plans to place the whole country in lockdown.
Instead, a new category system will be implemented in order to declare areas of risk throughout the country.
Red [Highly controlled]: High infection rate and at more than 1 location.
Orange [Controlled areas]: Located close to the red zone or more than 10 cases or growing rate of infections
Yellow [Under high surveillance]: Less than 10 cases
Green [Under surveillance]: No cases
Provinces in Red zone [Highly controlled]:
Samut Sakhon - requires urgent contact tracing, use of tracing apps, restriction of business opening times, close of non-essential business and cancellation of events and public gatherings. Check points remain in place.
Provinces in Orange zone [Controlled areas]:
Samut Songkhram, Ratchaburi, Nakhon Pathom & Bangkok - No cross-provincial movement of migrant workers. Mass events are discouraged, but not banned,
Provinces in Yellow zone [Under high surveillance]:
Angthong Ayutthaya, Chachoengsao, Chainat, Chaiyaphum, Kamphaeng Phet, Khon Kaen, Krabi, Nakhon Ratchasima, Nakhon Sawan,Nonthaburi,Pathum Thani, Petchaburi, Phetchabun, Phichit, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Phuket, Prachinburi, Prachuap Khiri Khan, Samut Prakan, Saraburi, Suphanburi, Surat Thani, Udon Thani, Uttaradit - Less restrictive than previous measures, people advised to work from home where possible but not mandatory.
Provinces in Green zone [Under surveillance]:
All remaining provinces - Regular COVID-19 measures in place
At the time of posting there has been no announcement regarding restrictions on the sale of alcohol or the closing of bars, pubs or restaurants. Any restrictions of this kind are only likely if a province is determined to be a ‘red zone’.
Meanwhile, it has also been announced that the CCSA will resume its English language briefings from today (24 Dec).
** This is a developing story. This post will be updated without notice

These type of investments are completely foreign to a Thai wife.
Why not invest in some local cheap property in her name where she can control and understand it?
Collect a couple of 5,000 baht rents a month.....
Once you're gone how do you think she can handle or sell foreign investments? She can't. Too complicated - too much paperwork.....
Keep it simple.
Yes all this financial paperwork sounds like too complicated for her.Just tell her she will have to get a job..

The only chance for Pattaya to get back to anything like the way it was is if a real government takes office, and I do not see that happening anytime soon. If the present unelected "PM" leaves office for any reason, there will probably be another soldier ready to take his place.
Thailand, not just Pattaya, was losing lots of tourists mainly because of the soldier "governments" ridiculous visa policies way before the pandemic came.

You make a good point but I was thinking more of the "2 week millionaires " as being the ones who would come back and they wouldnt give a s...t about the government .They are only there for a short time and a good time unlike the expats who have to put up with it.

Pattaya will be back. It will be different. There will be different groups that will want different attractions and Pattaya being Pattaya will find a way to accommodate the new, the old, and changing demographics that visit.
Sure Pattaya will be different ,but with all its faults its still not a bad place including Jomtiem. Youve got open air bars on or near the ocean and clean fresh sea air..providing the Chinese tour buses dont return. Compere this to the philipines where the main holiday places might have similar activities but are very different .For example Angeles where most of the bars are enclosed and the city is filthy dirty and I would say not as safe to walk around as Pattaya and you annoyed by beggars everywhere you go , also there is nothing to do in the day there unlike Pattaya where you can sit in a beachside bar and have lunch. This is why Pattaya will always survive.

Nonsence, Pattaya is not finished !! there are still thousands of punters out there that are busting their ring gear to get back and have a pocket full of $$$ to spend. All the bar and club owners and new investors will be ready to go with new and better establishments. There is just too much money to be made when the gates open.Thats what I reckon anyhow.been going to thailand /pattaya since 1988.

Agree. Also the owner has to pay rent on a building in a prime location, which 65 baht carts do not have to do. Fair price
Its entirely up to you the customer if you get ripped off or not... go into the restaurant..look at the menu and if you dont like the prices of the food..simple just walk out.

UK state pension: Canada and Australia condemn the UK's failure to protect overseas payments
in Home Country Forum

Australia has a different Pension system to the U.K. Everyone who meets the criteria gets a Pension automaticly and you dont have to pay into any government fund.Yes you pay your taxes all your working life but they brought in compulsory superanuation contributions from your employer which is paid into your own private account into which you can add your own money. The idea of this according to the gov is that you will live off your own money when you retire and you wont need their pension saving them $$$$$ They insist that in Australia a Pension is a a priviledge not a right .If you dont have enough in your fund they will supplement your income so you dont go hungry.
