Why don't the government ditch all drinking hours and go back to the good old days like patong in Phuket in the 90's where the bars and clubs stayed open until they had no more customers left and that could be 3 or 4 am.Usually it was the Thai owner or night manager on deck then and they are there to make money so why should they have to turn away paying customers at a mandatoty closing time.Many times my mate and I would be the last ones left and would stagger back to our rooms at 4 or 5 am at the CNN after getting a snack from a vendor on the way. There was very little trouble with violent drunks in the streets or bars in those days.

More than once on a no grog religous or voting day I have gone to a 7/11 nd wanted to buy a few beers and the assistant said no can but the manager said o.k. and puts them in a brown paper bag and checks outside for cops .. all clear and off I go back to my room.

i always took a rough estimate of the total bill and when it came gave my girlfriend the money. She would then study it to check if it was correct and sort out any discrepancies in Thai and the pay it. That way I don't get ripped off and she gets the satisfaction of paying her way.

On the subject of Thai girlfriend requests here's a good one. My Aussie mate got a sob story from his girlfriend in Hat Yai about her uncle who had trained monkeys to pick coconuts for him. One day the monkey climbed up the tree and was in a bad mod so he threw one at the uncle and it hit him on the head and knocked his teeth out. So she needed the money to get him new teeth implants.. He never told me how much but it wouldn't have been cheap. Anyway about a year later I was at his wedding at the family farm and the old monkey uncle turned up and I noticed that he didn't have a tooth in his head and was having trouble chewing his food. When I pointed it out to my mate he said ah, don't worry about it that's o.k.. An example of how blokes can be sucked in when they are in love.

You have every reason to worry about scammers at ATMS. All they have to do is straight after you use it they can scan your fingerprints and put a blank card in and it will activate your card using your prints and they can withdraw your money.....how many people believe that rubbish ????
