  1. just found this

    Everybody can ride ‘legally’ a automatic scooter of not more than 115cc until he or she becomes 18 years old. I was told that some small print involves that the scooter is registered a direct family member and fully insured. The Thai law says that everybody older than 18 and operating a engine propelled motor vehicle needs to have a drivers license for that vehicle.

    Reality, most police officers – especially upcountry – have no interest in stopping youngsters to check if the scooter or step-through motorcycle is within the specifications of the law. It’s just to much work, sure if not wear a helmet they get stopped and if they on a Honda 125cc they in more trouble...

  2. After the initial cleanup, the PEA planned sweeping reorganization of cables to beautify the area

    planned   -   means nothing   -   talk, talk and more talk.   the initial cleanup was brought about by the residents.

    the PEA thought everything was just fine, but their was obviously something needed done or they wouldnt have gone and done it !!!!!

    OP, this may be of help;

    If you from UK then get yourself a Halifax Clarity Mastercard, this card charges no international transaction fees you just pay the daily Mastercard x rate so is one of the best cards to use overseas I use it for all my daily shopping in LOS at stores etc. I then just settle my card account online so no interest charges, the mastercard x rate is not too bad overall

    Cash I bring in Sterling and exchange at the best rates I can find in country and then drop into my Thai account (like you I use Kasikorn) The bank rates are not as good as you can find around town so I never use the bank to do straight exchanges.

    i have same card, only use it for cash at the bank not ATM, pay-off card a couple of days after the transaction,      minimal charge,  75p  on  60000 baht last trip.

    Sounds like the attacks are doing more damage. While he may be admirable in his efforts perhaps he needs to link up with people with similar goals, work to grow their numbers, and then really ramp up their efforts.

    he is doing what he thinks is right , you dont need other people for that , even in london 1 man standing up for something is unheard of

    This is low season in Thailand because the waves are big and surf is rough.  Waves over 2-2.5 meters high are common if not the norm in Phuket this time of year.

    Whether you know how to swim or not, the ocean is very dangerous until October.  When the waves are this high, it's hard to see people more than 3-5 meters away from you.  Because of the rough surf it's cheap this time of year but very very dangerous.  Even good swimmers can drown in these rough seas!

    but still the locals go for the money

    We had some Thai's working with us in Vietnam. They were not paid peanuts unless you call Baht 10,000 a day plus food, accommodation and transport all paid for as peanuts. First few days they turned up on time and seemed ok. Note they did not work directly with me but one of the other disciplines. After a few days the were asking where the Thai's were. They would come in around 9am, we started at 7am, and then they couldnt be found half the time on site.

    Yes there are some very good Thai workers but the majority are not what you would call good

    f me 10000 baht a day is more than i was earning in the UK   -- that is big money
