  8. Could the deaths of 20 school children help make Thailand's roads safer? Jonathan Head South East Asia correspondent Thailand is a country in shock: three days ago, 20 children and three teachers were killed when their bus was engulfed in flames. It was one of the South East Asian country’s worst road accidents, and investigators have uncovered a series of safety failures which some have suggested effectively turned the vehicle into a “bomb on wheels”. It has left the country - still mourning the loss of the 23 on board the bus - wondering how this was ever allowed to happen, and if it could happen again? https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5y0jm7jpx8o
  9. Vehicle fires are becoming too frequent now on Thai roads: Police said the taxi overturned on Sat morning & caught fire on Rama IX Rd near Sri Nakarin Intersection because it hit a concrete barrier at a u-turn. 5 were injured, including 4 passengers. 10. The owner of the bus company was released whilst the driver remains in custody. Which one has the most money.....any bets? The owner of the bus that caught fire in Pathum Thani has been charged with negligent homicide due to actions contributing to the deaths of others. Additional charges are anticipated, but police from Khu Khot Station have yet to provide specific details. Yesterday, police interrogated two engineers from the Sing Buri Provincial Transport Office for six hours. This included the chief of the vehicle inspection unit, a qualified vehicle inspection engineer, and another experienced engineer. The bus is registered in Sing Buri. As the engineers exited the interrogation room, reporters attempted to inquire about the vehicle inspection of the burned bus; however, both declined to comment, expressing their regrets over the incident before quickly leaving. Panisara (surname withheld), the bus owner, was interrogated for four hours before charges were filed. The owner acknowledged the charges and was subsequently released, while investigations into other potential charges remain ongoing. The 48-year-old driver, who initially fled to Ang Thong, has since surrendered to authorities. Samarn (surname withheld) faces charges of reckless driving resulting in death or injury, failing to provide assistance after the incident, failing to report the incident, and fleeing the scene. He remains in custody as his bail request was denied. https://x.com/ThaiEnquirer/status/1842098709909410157
  11. Exactly. Like many initial reactions from the govt, this will in time be all forgotten. Shame on the govt.
  12. BREAKING: Acting Pol Chief Pol Gen Kittirat Panpetch said Weds afternoon contrary to what deadly bus driver, Mr Saman, claims, investigators found no evidence that a bus tyre exploded. 13. Only proposals at this stage but will any ever come to fruition? Again, I doubt it. The ruling Pheu Thai Party and the main opposition People's Party have proposed recommendations to prevent future incidents like the tragic bus fire in Pathum Thani yesterday. Their suggestions include: Pheu Thai: - Enforce traffic and public transportation laws rigorously. - Introduce new vehicle safety standards requiring public transport tires to be replaced every two years or after 50,000 kilometers. - Conduct thorough vehicle inspections, addressing discrepancies in registered vehicles that use gas. - Mandate immediate inspections of all public transport vehicles by the Ministry of Transport, prohibiting those that do not meet safety standards. - Install speed limiters in public transport vehicles, including buses and large trucks, as speeding is a leading cause of accidents. - Increase criminal penalties for public transport drivers whose reckless driving leads to fatalities, promoting greater accountability. People's Party: - Public Transport Standards: Enhance safety for public transport vehicles by enforcing strict regulations that require emergency exits, functional fire extinguishers, glass-breaking tools, and fire-resistant materials. Implement additional measures such as GPS tracking, comprehensive driver training, maintenance protocols, strict law enforcement, public safety awareness campaigns, and advanced technologies like automatic braking systems. - Field Trip Safety: Establish stringent criteria for school field trips, including safe transportation standards and appropriate adult supervision ratios. Limit travel distances for young children and integrate survival skills training into school curricula to better prepare them for emergencies. - Support for Victims and Families: Provide prompt and comprehensive support for victims, including medical care, compensation, and mental health services. Ensure ongoing mental health support is available for those affected by such incidents.
  14. Looks like this is all your getting and of course we wont know this will actually happen. I have my doubts. Ticking time bombs for all, Deputy Transport Minister Surapong Piyachote said on Wednesday, there are 13,426 buses in Thailand powered by CNG gas (compressed natural gas). In light of Oct 1 school bus explosion, the ministry has set a deadline of 60 days for all to be inspected. https://x.com/KhaosodEnglish/status/1841386361640956164
  15. Thai Police forensics say the bus which ignited yesterday killing 20 children and 3 teachers had 10 gas canisters distributed all around the lower deck, instead of 3 at the rear as per regulations. That explains the rapid, intense fire. How did this bus pass inspection? n many countries you might expect the Transport Minister to resign over such a catastrophic failure. Let’s see what level of accountability we see from minister Suriya and his predecessor Saksayam… https://x.com/pakhead/status/1841347188682846623
  16. The NGV gas tank of the deadly bus and its system, which caught fire and killed 23 people on Tuesday, is 15 years old, a record show. Meanwhile, the emergency door, which failed to open, was last inspected this year on May 23. https://x.com/KhaosodEnglish/status/1841312003442589740 (1/2) The bus that caught fire & killed 23 on Tues was registered with the license plate dating back to 1970, records showed. 18. (1/3) BREAKING: Just before the fatal bus carrying 44 students and teachers caught fire in Pathum Thani, it had sideswiped a black Mercedes-Benz that was traveling from Rangsit to Bangkok in the far right lane, shortly after noon on Tues. (2/3) The insurance agent for the Mercedes revealed that the bus was moving from the middle lane and veered into their lane. It's believed this happened at the moment when one of the bus's tires exploded. This caused the Mercedes to hit the center barrier and scrape along it for abt 100 meters. The Mercedes driver quickly braked. The driver quickly exited the vehicle. Meanwhile, the bus continued for about 400-500 meters before catching fire. https://x.com/KhaosodEnglish/status/1841070198130163982

  23. I've just called the call center and yes, it is reserved for Thais only. Thank you.
  24. Just a quick question: Is the above account for Thais only? I ask because the interest rate is slightly higher than the normal Mee Tae Dai account.
