The existence of pedophiles is not random, it has causes that are not those that relate to other normal sexual development. Therefore the sample of convicted pedophiles is not random. Pedophiles are not representative of the general population. There is no mathematical basis to draw conclusions on the general population from a sample that is not random and not representative. Finally, there is a reverse argument that comes out of the naïve ‘proportional’ view. The data on pedophiles comes from prosecutions, the behaviors of the individuals have been logged in the criminal record, it is very solid data. The data on homosexuality is very much less secure, being to a large extent based on self identification, certainly under reported. If the naïve reading of the proportionality is to be taken at face value, then it cannot be concluded that homosexuality is over reported among pedophiles without first closing out the equally logical, and statistically more sound, conclusion that homosexuality in the general population is massively under reported.

Well, the actual data and the ability to understand what it is and is not telling you.
