  1. I have a Thai will, and an Australian will. The Thai will leaves all assets ( mostly cash ) in Thailand to her. The Australian will leaves all assets there to my son.
  2. It depends on circumstances. I have a steady income from a pension and investments. My Thai GF gets a lump sum in cash when I die, which will have to last her for the rest of her life. Therefore, it is in her best interest for me to live for as long as possible. Rule #1 in Thailand is never put in more money here than you can afford to lose. To answer the OP's question, not much can be done if things go pear-shaped with the relatives of your wife. As a lawyer once told me, money brings out the worst in people.
  3. My wrong assumption, which is why you are so valuable to this community. I had a flu shot in April in Australia, so I am set for this year. My apologies for incorrect information.
  4. Motorcycle insurance will cover the first 30,000 baht of medical expenses. With a government hospital, that covers quite a lot. Unless the rider had no insurance/registration. The OP states the rider seemed unharmed, although an ambulance was called. The OP does need a translator at the police station. Sign nothing, admit nothing. Demand a medical report on the allegedly injured person. I suspect an attempt at a shakedown.
  5. “Only when the last tree has died and the last river been poisoned and the last fish been caught will we realize we cannot eat money.”
  6. My argument would be both plastic pollution and global warming are equally serious problems. The 1987 Montreal Protocol on ozone-depleting substances proved environmental problems can be fixed, provided enough nations can be signed up to the solution. The oceans have been the dumping ground for plastics and heat, ever since the Industrial Revolution and the invention of plastic. When our seas start to stink, time to move to another planet. I can't see Thailand signing up to any plastics protocol. IMO it's the most profligate user of plastics on the planet.
  7. "Southern strain" is used in places such as Australia, South America etc. Thailand is still north of the Equator, the northern strain vaccine would be used in Bangkok. Just have another flu shot next October.
  8. No, I don't know that. AFAIK he has not confined his withdrawal of funding to COVID vaxxes. The statistics on COVID vaxxes say one is six times more likely to require an ICU or intubation if unvaccinated, compared to vaccinated patients. COVID is a respiratory virus, just like flu. I have flu and COVID boosters every year, and don't understand why people get their knickers in a twist.
  9. If you have not had your kid vaccinated for polio ( still active in Pakistan and Cambodia ) he/she is at serious risk of permanent paralysis. This is what an iron lung looks like. Do you really want him/her to spend the rest of their life there?
  10. If you served in the US military, the odds are pretty good you were vaccinated for everything. COVID vax is no different to any other vax. Only complete nutters prevent their kids from being vaccinated for polio, measles, typhus etc.
  11. Dalat has a very temperate climate, being up in the mountains.
  12. Not wearing a good helmet almost guarantees death, a vegetative state, or paraplegia with any serious collision, or fall from two wheels. https://profile.yru.ac.th/storage/journals/132bd35b372761b6aff849b3781b50b7.pdf Have it your way, just don't expect a visit from me when you are lying in a hospital bed contemplating the stupidity that put you there.
  13. From what I have seen posted by people who have actually been there, the main advantages are the people speak English, and long-term visas are a simple process. Against that, food is awful, and personal safety is a real issue.
  14. I guess living in the sticks has advantages, I assume you are referring to Bangkok traffic. Chiang Rai is OK, I would even shy away from traffic in Chiang Mai now.
  15. I don't lane split, I stay left. Watching some of the people that do is enough to freeze my blood.
  16. And another thing..Don't assume the rental you hire is roadworthy. Some rental agencies want your passport as security. Walk out. A copy and security of 2-3K baht is the norm. Be especially wary of intersections, Thais cut corners.
  17. How do you know she heard you? I have found it's a good idea to stay out of blind spots to start with.
  18. Unless you are here for the long haul, safer to take songthaews and tuk-tuks. Get a Thai scooter license before you rent, and invest in a decent helmet. You may think you have experience with two-wheelers. Thai traffic is different, assume everyone is trying to kill you.
  19. It will be if you get to my age. I pay for the alcohol buzz with trips to the toilet 5 or 6 times during the night. Have not had a drink for about a year, not missing it at all. Pot does nothing for me. I occasionally indulge in kratom or oxycodone. Sex is overrated, nowadays I would rather have a good dump.
  20. Poor is when one cannot afford private hospital care, and is at the mercy of the public hospital system in any country.
  21. Thunderstorms last three nights in Chiang Rai.
  22. "es irrt der mensch, solang er strebt" I just take each day as it comes. Today's highlight was my GF cutting my toenails, which I can no longer reach due to a bad back.
  23. Fess up. It was really the ozone from your EV.
  24. We had a group above us in the condo who came in at 2 am and kicked on until about 4 am. One of the guys had a guitar. His singing voice and the guitar were so far off-key it was torture to the ears. I suspect I was not the only person to complain to condo management. I think the Juristic person told their landlord water and electricity would be cut off if the noise continued. They were gone after about three weeks.
  25. I use a combination of Kellogg's All-Bran daily, and a sachet of Macrogol ( Polyethylene Glycol ) once or twice a week. The Macrogol gets thing moving without producing the runs. Great stuff.
