  1. I wasn't suggesting jewellery, only bullion. I suppose some smarty could come up with a layer of gold thickness that would defeat Mohs or Rockwell testing. Tungsten only costs $3.25 per pound, gold is more than USD 2000 an ounce.
  2. When you can't even spell the word propaganda correctly, it doesn't say much for your intelligence either.
  3. I suggest you look at the rally where he referred to immigrants as "poisoning the blood" of Americans, straight out of the Nazi playbook. As far as "normal" people go, IMO it would be a fascinating social experiment to compare the average IQ of Trump's base to that of Democrat voters. I'm talking about the welded-on base on both sides of the divide. 50% of Americans still believe in angels, so the comparison might not prove anything. Coming to a cinema near you........ 4. Please explain the difference to me. Here's a similarity - both worship a charismatic leader with maniacal ideas. Both leaders talk about racial purity, and white supremacy.
  5. America appears to have established a minor tradition of getting presidents from the entertainment industry. Reagan was an actor, Trump a TV celebrity. Here's a scenario to give everyone pause. Trump picks Tucker as his VP, and gets re-elected. Before Trump can get going on his mission of vengeance, he dies from choking on a Big Mac. Carlson becomes president.
  6. A lucky escape, and from the photo you would not have been much better off in a car, maybe worse. Looks like a dirt road, an added hazard.
  7. What many people don't seem to realize is the money going into Ukraine from the USA and Europe is money well spent, in terms of preventing a wider conflict. Nobody in their right mind would expect Putin to stop if he won in Ukraine, he has repeatedly stated his desire to restore the Soviet Union to its former glory. The Chinese are enjoying the situation. They are getting cheap oil, while eyeing the riches of Siberia. IIRC, one of the Tom Clancy books, "The Bear and the Dragon" predicts that scenario.
  8. No-one needs to pay more than token tax in Thailand, there are various strategies available. As Kerry Packer famously said, anyone who doesn't minimize their tax needs their head read.
  9. He might have got bored, he was fired. Assets are less important than expenditures. There are many rich people who have bankrupted themselves with drugs, gambling and women. You can't know he does not need a job. CNN and MSNBC are far left? That has me wondering what you would make of MSM in Australia. The mere mention of socialism seems to get many Americans frothing at the mouth. We have had socialist governments on and off in Australia since Federation. They are, more often than not, the governments that introduce major reforms.
  10. Putin was, in the days of the Soviet Union. I don't know what his position in the political spectrum now.
  11. You don't like my questions? You're not the first. The laugh emoticon was from me.
  12. It doesn't matter what the sample is. Saliva, hairs, skin cells, whatever. The presence of Trump's DNA would prove he lied about never having met her. Maybe I have more faith in science than you do. It's worth noting hundreds of convicted criminals have subsequently been exonerated on the basis of DNA evidence. https://innocenceproject.org/dna-exonerations-in-the-united-states/ Now tell me, how many people have been WRONGFULLY convicted on the basis of DNA evidence?
  13. Oxygen oxidizes contaminants. I am hard put to think of any impurity which would cause an adverse reaction in humans. Of course, a welding tank might have contaminants such as nitrogen or argon, but these are inert gases which would have zero effect.
  14. He's so smart he got himself fired by three networks - CNN, MSNBC, and Fox. The last took real effort, given Murdoch's brand of politics.
  15. Am I the only one on this thread that perceives the irony of a far-right commentator interviewing someone who was arguably on the far left? Whoever said politics makes strange bedfellows was spot on.
  16. My guess would be the sample of bodily fluid (whatever it happened to be) was too badly degraded by the passage of time to give a convincing result. The sample is about 28 years old, with probably no convincing chain of custody. IMO it was a carefully considered decision by lawyers on both sides, after talking to forensic experts. If the plaintiff's lawyers could not get a match, due to the age of the sample, taking into account custody issues, it would have been a fairly substantial plank in Trump's defense. OTOH, if Trump provided a sample which matched, game over. It's a two-edged sword, obviously both sides decided against gambling.
  17. There is another gold scam to be wary of. Tungsten and gold have almost identical densities. Gold-plate a tungsten bar, and it is suddenly far more valuable. AFAIK small gold shops usually determine purity by density. The scam can be detected quite quickly with a Rockwell hardness meter. However, they are expensive machines. https://www.businessinsider.com/china-tungsten-gold-2012-9
  18. Gloss is definitely needed for bathrooms. It's a bad idea for living spaces, because there are reflections, which can be annoying with a TV. Better to compromise with a satin or semi-gloss paint. Acrylics nowadays are just as durable as alkyds, without the hydrocarbon solvent smell, which may take days or weeks to clear. Prepare all surfaces. Painting over old layers without sanding usually results in the new paint losing adhesion prematurely. If you don't like white, there are plenty of cheerful light yellows and greens to choose from. Have one wall, doors or the skirting boards in a dark color for contrast. Don't have dark blue, it's the color of depression.
  19. Who should we believe? An official communication from the ATO, citing the relevant clause of a Double Taxation Agreement ? Or two people on a YouTube video, advertising their services?
  20. They will probably become increasingly rare with time. Coins and machines both. Last year, I was in Australia for six months. With the exception of a cash gift I drew at an ATM ( becoming rarer also ) all my transactions were with a debit card.
  21. The poster you are responding to is refusing to admit he was wrong, and is not apologizing for the distress he has caused. His voluminous posts over the last couple of days are aimed at muddying the waters, and distracting from that basic fact. In hindsight, he is displaying several characteristics of a sociopath. No empathy, no remorse. Manipulative. Gaslighting. I am no longer responding to him, as that deprives him of oxygen.
  22. What part of my post did you not understand? If I was Trump, and innocent of the allegations, I would be screaming to high heaven to get my DNA included.
  23. I have a moo bank for my GF's grandchildren. All my coins go there. Quite heavy when it is full.
  24. Extract of Thai to English translation of the DTA, seen through Thai officialdom. ARTICLE 4 RESIDENCE 1. For the purposes of this Agreement, a person is a resident of one of the Contracting States: (a) in the case of Australia, if the person is a resident of Australia for the purposes of Australian tax; and (b) in the case of Thailand, if the person is a resident of Thailand for the purposes of Thai tax.
  25. How long do you think a tax treaty will take to be updated between countries? IMO most people drawing a pension will be dead by then.
