Common Roles Foreigners Fall Into in Thailand
Lacessit replied to Alpha84's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
I remember a guy trying to sell card tokens that could be used for discounts at restaurants printed on the cards. Apparently the restaurants knew nothing about the cards. -
My opinions are fact-based. Your opinions are based on a being that exists in your imagination.

Reading and understanding are two different things.

Judging by the posts you have made thus far, infinitesimal. Your argument re prisoner populations was ample proof of your ignorance on the subject. Being a minority does not change probabilities.
-
Reading the Bible to the exclusion of any other thought doesn't work, period.
-
You obviously understand statistics as well as a Middle Ages peasant understands an internal combustion engine.

Thinking there is a God is not logical either, in fact it is the opposite of logical.

"People don't become pedophiles from abstinence. It's from childhood trauma". Rubbish. Post your credentials as a psychiatrist.

If you are going to pretend Christians are more virtuous, I guess you are lining up for a Trump bible. Studies have shown atheists and agnostics are very much underrepresented in general prison populations. So how does that jibe with your assertion faith is necessary to prevent crime?

Sexual abuse by priests is a problem created by the Catholic Church itself. It steadfastly refuses to acknowledge that fact. The second Lateran Council of 1139 AD made celibacy mandatory for all priests. Officially to promote piety, in reality to protect church property from matrimonial and inheritance claims. Any psychiatrist will tell you when celibacy is enforced on mature males, it is statistically inevitable a certain percentage of those males will have their normal sex drives diverted to something else, and not in a good way. The Catholic Church is a very wealthy organization. In the state of Victoria, Australia alone, its assets are estimated to be $9 billion. Celibacy for priests arises from the basest of motives - money.

It's a conceit of religions of all stripes, that they all have the high ground when it comes to morality. It's BS, most of our value systems come from our parents as role models. Would you like me to start listing the crimes committed in the name of religion and faith?

Name something you regard as a miracle.

IMO the only life we have after death is what we create in our lifetime, be it children, songs, sculptures, endowments etc. The vast majority of us are forgotten in 2-3 generations.

People from the Middle Ages would regard us using smartphones or traveling in cars as a miracle.

Australia has a leftist government. Its Medicare system is far superior to the American version, which is being slashed as I post. The minimum wage in America is USD 7.25 an hour. The last time it was adjusted upwards was 2009. Meantime, the annual average rate of inflation in America is 2.35%, over 15 years. The minimum wage in Australia is AUD 24.10. The average annual rate of inflation there is 2.42% over the last 15 years. The idiots rejoicing over liberal tears don't realize the inflation steamroller is going to crush them just as much as the poor, unless they are very rich.

Trump Urges Starmer to Abandon Wind Power in Favor of North Sea Oil

Data is not an opinion. The calculated costs are what I have posted. You have yet to post any costings of your own. -
Trump Urges Starmer to Abandon Wind Power in Favor of North Sea Oil

So coal-fired power stations do not require wiring, turbines, generators, sulphur scrubbers, and machine maintenance to operate? The capital cost per MW of a coal fired power station is $3300-5500, or $6500 if built with carbon capture and storage. Which is thermodynamic nonsense anyway. The capital cost of a wind turbine is typically $1300-2200. Building a coal - fired power station of 600 MW capacity is north of $2 billion. Wind -powered turbines with the same capacity - $1.3 billion. I am posting data, you are posting opinions and assertions. -
The government employs the same number of public servants it did, when the American population was half what it is now. You voted for a guy who has about 6 bankruptcies and a string of failed businesses on his record. Talking about "business level discipline" from such a person is a new level of stupid.

Life has the meaning one gives to it. We create meaning by our life choices, values and actions. Some people think the perpetuation of their genes gives their own life meaning. Others think a being who cannot be seen , felt or heard gives their life a purpose.

I have an obstructive prostate. Originally I was on finasteride and cardura. My GP in Australia switched me to duodart, which is a combination of dutasteride and tamsulosin. Sheryl's advice of investigating whether the OP has prostatitis should be heeded. The advice of my highly qualified urologist in Australia is live with BPH, take meds, and treat surgery as an absolute last resort.

Trump Urges Starmer to Abandon Wind Power in Favor of North Sea Oil

AI again: "By comparing the estimated embodied energy (1.08×1013 J) with the lifetime energy generation (8.28×1014 J), it's clear that a wind turbine generates significantly more energy than it consumes during its manufacturing and installation. The "energy payback time" for wind turbines is relatively short, often cited as a few months to around a year, meaning they quickly generate enough clean energy to offset the energy invested in their creation. This makes wind power a highly energy-efficient form of electricity generation." Horses for courses. Solar panels are installed where there is plenty of sun. wind turbines where there's a lot of wind. Trump would not know what a joule was if it bit him on the @rse. -

I can accept the carbon footprint of a wind turbine is larger than the carbon it saves. I would like to see a credible link that verifies your assertion with respect to solar panels. I asked AI how many joules it took to manufacture a solar panel, and how many joules it then generated in its lifetime. "While it takes a significant amount of energy to manufacture a solar panel (around 6.84×109 J for a single panel), the energy it generates over its lifetime is considerably higher (approximately 5.91×1010 J for a single 400W panel over 25 years in a moderate sun location). This means that a solar panel typically generates many times more energy than was used to create it, leading to a positive "energy payback time" (the time it takes for a solar panel to generate the amount of energy that went into its production), which is generally a few years." -

It's whether the energy generated during the life cycle is more than the energy used to create the energy harvester. In that respect, solar is superior to wind energy. Solar has no moving parts, wind turbines do. However, the UK does not get enough sun for solar to be viable. -

Remember Trump offering the fossil fuel industry carte blanche if they would donate $1 billion to his re-election? He's in Big Oil's pocket.- 63 replies
