  1. The author of this study has one publication- this one. The journal itself has an impressive name, that's all. Peer review by a panel of anti-vaxxers from varying backgrounds which have nothing to do with vaccines is not a peer review, it's bullsh!t. When this paper is published by The Lancet or Nature, I'll sit up and take notice. 10 minutes of my time wasted reading this tripe.
  2. Carter was possibly too decent a person for the presidency. The job involves telling people what they want to hear, prevarication, and a bit of mongrel. Not to worry, the incumbent has all those attributes in full measure. Vindictive is a bonus. RIP.
  3. Your post ignores the fact in democracies, mistakes are acknowledged, such as the My Lai massacre, and the downing of the Iranian passenger aircraft. Russia extends its paranoia to its own people. The personnel of the Kursk submarine which sank in August 2000 might have been saved, if Russian officials had not refused help from nearby vessels. It took 5 days for Putin, holidaying in Sochi, to authorize assistance from British and Norwegian divers. By then, it was too late. The usual deflection from a Kremlin troll.
  4. My Thai debit card is only used for online purchases. My Australian debit card has my name on it, I use that at hotels.
  5. I am predicting most of the promises made by politicians in any country will not come to fruition. There are so many wild cards in politics, so I am not prepared to go further.
  6. Come on, the high horse phrase is starting to sound like a broken record. Stop coming the raw prawn.
  7. The least you should do is buy third party insurance, for damage to other vehicles. AFAIK government insurance only covers injury and death. Let's say your NETA is parked next to a couple of Mercs or Beemers, and you have a battery fire. Unlike an ICE fire at 900 C, a battery fire is 2300 C. Unlikely to happen, the risk is 50 times less than an ICE fire. However, if it does happen, you could be up for millions of baht for damage to other vehicles.
  8. I quit when they brought in Hamiltonian quaternions.
  9. I have always wanted to visit Luang Prabang.
  10. I understand it's about 50% of the new car value
  11. Nissan had a great reputation for reliability and durability. It all went to sh!t when they switched over to Jatco CVT's, which have a dismal reputation. By all means buy a Nissan if it has the older torque converter gearbox. Otherwise, steer clear.
  12. My mind is expanded to the point where I understand with available lithium, EV's at best can only replace 30% of ICE's. 10 new mines will have to be in operation every year, for the next ten years, for complete replacement to be achieved. You may be right about borrowed time. My estimate is 30 years. Happy New Year.
  13. It is not just air disasters. Russia has a history of suppressing the truth. It comes with a culture of paranoia and secrecy. News of the Chernobyl disaster was suppressed for 5 days, until the radiation readings from fallout in other countries made it impossible to conceal. The Novocherkassk strike of 1962 resulted in 26 unarmed protestors being shot dead by Soviet troops. The massacre was concealed by the Soviet government for decades. Now we have Putin, saying all is well with his special military operation. It would be most inconvenient if the real casualty figures ever saw the light of day.
  14. I am not anti-EV. I have consistently acknowledged EV's have major advantages in some attributes. The standard ICE warranty is 5 years and 100,000 km. The warranty holds even if the vehicle has half a dozen owners. Which raises the question of why Neta will only honor a warranty with the original owner. What do they know that we don't? Who apart from you on this thread has heard of Wuling, and what reputation has it established for after-sales service and reliability? Religions always have a problem with heretics and agnostics. Ev's are no exception.
  15. The Nissan CVT is acquiring an unsavory reputation for reliability.
  16. Musk and Tesla are well on their way, with the tariffs on Chinese EV's. I remember a manufacturer of steel mill lubricants who created a monopoly in Australia. Some of their marketing involved a boat cruise on Sydney Harbor for senior management. The boat was well stocked with food, booze, and prostitutes.
  17. It's called the dismal science for a reason. I'll stick to physics and chemistry, at least they make sense.
  18. Not at all, monopolies create artificial scarcities and jack up prices.
  19. Too much money chasing too few goods and services. I'm sorry, that's about as non-esoteric as I can get.
  20. Happy Birthday, young fella.
  21. I would like to keep living until I no longer have quality of life. After that, time to go.
  22. Generally, air travel is very safe. Having said that, I would never get on a Russian aircraft. They are cannibalizing their Boeings and Airbuses because of sanctions. The two brands make up 70% of the domestic fleet, does anyone feel lucky?
  23. Sarcasm alert needed.
  24. My mechanic in CR pointed out a car carrier loaded with vehicles, heading south. He said one or two of them go back to Bangkok every day, loaded up with repossessed vehicles.
