I am predicting most of the promises made by politicians in any country will not come to fruition. There are so many wild cards in politics, so I am not prepared to go further.

Come on, the high horse phrase is starting to sound like a broken record. Stop coming the raw prawn.

Should I buy a secondhand Neta V?
Lacessit replied to BritManToo's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
The least you should do is buy third party insurance, for damage to other vehicles. AFAIK government insurance only covers injury and death. Let's say your NETA is parked next to a couple of Mercs or Beemers, and you have a battery fire. Unlike an ICE fire at 900 C, a battery fire is 2300 C. Unlikely to happen, the risk is 50 times less than an ICE fire. However, if it does happen, you could be up for millions of baht for damage to other vehicles. -

Nissan had a great reputation for reliability and durability. It all went to sh!t when they switched over to Jatco CVT's, which have a dismal reputation. By all means buy a Nissan if it has the older torque converter gearbox. Otherwise, steer clear. -
Should I buy a secondhand Neta V?

My mind is expanded to the point where I understand with available lithium, EV's at best can only replace 30% of ICE's. 10 new mines will have to be in operation every year, for the next ten years, for complete replacement to be achieved. You may be right about borrowed time. My estimate is 30 years. Happy New Year. -
It is not just air disasters. Russia has a history of suppressing the truth. It comes with a culture of paranoia and secrecy. News of the Chernobyl disaster was suppressed for 5 days, until the radiation readings from fallout in other countries made it impossible to conceal. The Novocherkassk strike of 1962 resulted in 26 unarmed protestors being shot dead by Soviet troops. The massacre was concealed by the Soviet government for decades. Now we have Putin, saying all is well with his special military operation. It would be most inconvenient if the real casualty figures ever saw the light of day.

Should I buy a secondhand Neta V?
Lacessit replied to BritManToo's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
I am not anti-EV. I have consistently acknowledged EV's have major advantages in some attributes. The standard ICE warranty is 5 years and 100,000 km. The warranty holds even if the vehicle has half a dozen owners. Which raises the question of why Neta will only honor a warranty with the original owner. What do they know that we don't? Who apart from you on this thread has heard of Wuling, and what reputation has it established for after-sales service and reliability? Religions always have a problem with heretics and agnostics. Ev's are no exception. -

The Nissan CVT is acquiring an unsavory reputation for reliability. -
Tax on the poor?: What's the cause of USA inflation?

Musk and Tesla are well on their way, with the tariffs on Chinese EV's. I remember a manufacturer of steel mill lubricants who created a monopoly in Australia. Some of their marketing involved a boat cruise on Sydney Harbor for senior management. The boat was well stocked with food, booze, and prostitutes. -

It's called the dismal science for a reason. I'll stick to physics and chemistry, at least they make sense. -

Not at all, monopolies create artificial scarcities and jack up prices. -

Too much money chasing too few goods and services. I'm sorry, that's about as non-esoteric as I can get. -

Do you think Air Travel is safe these days?
Lacessit replied to BarBoy's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
Generally, air travel is very safe. Having said that, I would never get on a Russian aircraft. They are cannibalizing their Boeings and Airbuses because of sanctions. The two brands make up 70% of the domestic fleet, does anyone feel lucky? -

My mechanic in CR pointed out a car carrier loaded with vehicles, heading south. He said one or two of them go back to Bangkok every day, loaded up with repossessed vehicles. -

It depends on whether the model has the Automated Manual Transmission (AMT) or a Continuously Variable Transmission ( CVT ). Personally, I would not touch a CVT model with a barge pole. Very expensive replacement cost, and require strict maintenance. OTOH, torque converter gearboxes can take any amount of flogging. -
Should I buy a secondhand Neta V?

I bought a Mazda 2 from them about 4 years ago. Great small car, happy with the price. With the fruit salad on it, new, 620K baht. I bought it for 430K, with 18,000 on the odometer. It still only has 42,000 km on the clock. A friend said it drives like a new car. -
Should I buy a secondhand Neta V?
Lacessit replied to BritManToo's topic in Thailand Motor Discussion
If I wanted to trade up, the OP could buy my elderly Vios for 80,0000 baht. It's got at least another 100,000 km to go. Or he could buy the one in the photo from a Chiang Mai dealer who sells to expats, with a one year guarantee. 121,000 on the odometer, good for another 200,000 km. Your infatuation with EV's misses the point every mechanic in Thailand knows how to work on a Toyota, and their reputation for reliability is well established. How many mechanics know how to work on a Neta? The OP would then be the captive of whatever Neta servicing is available in his area. Then there is the battery. What warranty does NETA have on that, and does it apply to secondhand vehicles? At 300,000 baht, IMO the car is cheap for a reason. And 300K may not be such a bargain if the battery goes kaput prematurely. There's a case in Australia where a Nissan Leaf battery failed. New price of the car AUD 50K, replacement battery AUD 38K. -
Is "high horse" your latest favorite phrase? IIRC you've used it with several posters. I can understand our height may be irritating when you are riding a Shetland pony. Not in the biblical sense, I hope. Happy New Year.
