  1. Forgot to mention my childrens Grandfather a retired LAPD policeman

who we are still good friends (divorced 40years ago) gave me a lesson

what to do when a policeman stops you.

He and I were stopped by police 3 times together. Once by Interstate police and city cops and them don’t mix. Father in Law flashes badge and Interstate police asked if he wanted them to write badge number on ticket.

The other two times when at his lake house when coming from bar.

Badge out ok go on. A really sensible guy and not a power freak. Once

In his neighborhood I saw someone breaking the law and pointed. He said not my jurisdiction.

As as far as I knew he was a Robbery Homicide police. About a year ago looked him up on web and then asked my son who is really close to

him. Do you know this? Yes but Grandpa won’t talk about it.

He he was assigned to LAPD SIS most other police knew of SIS. They met a a business park building. 20 highly trained police (only 20).

Their job was to get the bad or the bad. The Los Angeles paper called them “The Death squad” at least I understood why biker gangs etc. Showed up at the lake.

Long Story short.... be courteous and don’t push the officer. Most times they’ll let you go. They are people to.

Ok last thing left the i laws house 1 block away wife is being a pain

locked it up spun around to take her back to her parents. Cops with lights on my ass stopped at parents house and the police said something and I said it’s none of your business.

He came out and they said ok. Very very lucky I was

  2. I’ve done it once and then got my NO retirement visa. Rode my small  from Kumphawapi actually live 20 km further. Parked at 7/11 wife didn’t want to go but saved money without extra border fees with one. As Ubonjoe says it’s very easy.

I was clueless only heard people say Freindship Bridge for visa run.

Stopped at border 7/11 saw the crossing maybe 10 minutes stroll

saw many Farang and asked one. Take a bus across bridge all really

easy. Don’t remember if need USD for visa or if it was baht. Think baht

was OK and it was Vietnam that wanted USD.

My son and his Cambodian wife went one day when visiting me. Said the town is nice. Maybe you want to stay a night.

    Have a a good Trip!

  3. Yes a few times for no helmet and once for red light fines.

Many many times for license, insurance and current road tax sticker in car. I’ve always been asked for license when stopped first six months only with US license the had Thai after But checked every stop. But not fined.

The red light was turning right at light into Udon airport. I was driving and wife’s Uncle was in car to drive it back home. I think I was through

the light but still in intersection.

Stopped us and told me to pull over to side. Gave US license he said ok go there pay 50O. He didn’t speak English at the time point and 500 baht I figured it out.

The Uncle who doesn’t speak English motioned for me to wait in car.

He talked to the officer and officer showed picture of infraction.

Uncle came back to car motioned me to go to the pay table.

Officer said in perfect English 1000 baht next time tell your friend to keep his big mouth shut.

Was a little humorous..... I had drank a couple beers prior and just wanted to pay 500 and move on without other issues.

Cars dont pay for bikes. Thats ludacris. Can be used as a way to get money out of a farang though.  A Girl drove her scooter with her school friends on the back right in to the side of my car. Instantly my fault. Bigger car, too fast, farang dont understand, just girls (no licenses), yada, yada. People were running from everywhere to blame me, cctv of the police box was fake. Told everyone to go to hell and got a lawyer on the phone. I sent a get well card to hospital with a inspirational messege.

Im a descent driver and been in comp cars and bikes since a lad. Had our car totalled by an unlicensed hardware shop delivery guy. Ended up at the police station and the hardware shop owner guy took the cops in to the other room and came out saying its our fault and get out.

Thais are racist end of story. Farang always has to pay for other peoples mistakes. Thais are shameless, greedy, selfish, ignorant, lying, 2faced, low iq morons. Only interested in the cost of everything and value of nothing. Just thankfull not everyone is this bad and thankfull my wife aint one of them but its the impression i have of being here for decades. Im not thai bashing just stating facts as i see them.

Anyway, driving is fine if you can drive. Just be prepared for others to ding your car repeatedly!

Have to agree on the description as there are a number of people Not all they may have been taught this behavior in the NE.

Anyone that’s going to ride a motorcycle needs to have proper training

grabbing the front brake first will cause some issues. Luckily I learned

to ride moto cross when 13ish. Learned a lot before riding street bike.

  5. I enjoy reading the forum that helps inform and keep you

up to date on changes. I will admit I’m lazy at times and don’t

use the search option as often as I should.

One positive if someone asks about  previously posted it refreshes others memory. I’ve a Thai DL and it reminded me to check expiration.

Score: 1 to  1 both sides made valid comments

Ok I’m newmember and probably used search a couple of times in a few months.

Just now I tried search Thai Drivers License - search did not find

I looked on the bar at top didn’t see drivers license. See attached

When I get the ThaiVisa email I go to the posted topics of day not

    to home screen.

Suggestions on where I should be looking. Thanks!

I would add the fabulous Hall of Opium Museum in Chang Sean to the list. Stunning displays and easy to spend 2 hours there. There are/used to be other opium museums in the area but make sure you go to this one and assure you will not be disappointed even with the slightest of interests.

  7. USA banks it generates a lot of money for the bank. Fairly expensive even in the US you withdraw from other than your bank. The bank your using charges and your own bank charges.

If i use my US atm card here it’s more expensive plus the Thai bank charge.

As one one person said earlier the news said April? Thai banks wouldn’t be charging th fee anymore.

  8. I agree the guy who had the worst happen to him doesn’t do any good to slap him around about it. He knows and he’s slapped himself many times over it.

It’s good for somebody new to Thailand or thinking of coming here

And considering a relationship make sure your eyes are wide open.

I’ve lived ten years in China and five in Mexico. “The trap” is more prevalent in Thailand and notably more so by woman from the Northeast that work in the entertainment business.

I’m not saying all are in it for money etc. I’ve met many people in the NE that marriages seem to be good. Also I’ve heard many stories of people

that fell in “The Trap”. Myself being one that as someone mentioned didn’t pay attention.

I met her at a Go Go bar in Pattaya. I thiught I asked some important questions. Did you finish school she said yes etc. Not realizing a lot of children in NE dropout / finish school in the eighth grade. Not to harp

on it my mistake and still trying to sort it out.

After things were going sideways I started researching to see If it’s happened to others and what they did to repair or resolve.

Came across a internet blog blog for lack of a better term. May have been “never marry a Go Go bar girl from Pattaya” Lot of information search for it good info.

It outlined the situation that for me almost to point. Remember this was after the fact. Below a couple of things ....

My wife said I’m working because family is poor.. The blog says all Go Go bar girls are taught to say this in English as part of their training before can start work.

It talked about going to the gold shop. After two visits to the Village for a few weeks at a time.  Get in small town on way home gf at time says we need stop gold shop for Mama. What for?  She buy gold necklace need finish paying. How much is it? That’s not much I will pay for it. The hook was set. Actually now I know she borrowed money from gold and was getting it out of hock.

The blog laid out very almost to the point of what happened step by step. Doing the research I learned I was not paying as much attention as I should have. I accept that and try to keep my eyes open.

Talking to the wife the Mama San came to village talk to different visit women at their families home. In some cases she visited twice at the family home to convince them to go work Go Go bar.

The reason it seems the mama San prey on women in the NE because a large number are poorly educated.

Their are a number of 20 ish year olds in the village not knowing better post on FB which everybody in village knows their work. And most people in village only think work is work.

Others are more discreet and not post on FB but once they tell you work in Pattaya it’s a very good chance their in the Entertainment business.

Not all in NE go down this road and there are many that would be

happy without the Trap. Just make sure little head doesn’t tell big

    head what to think.

If “The Trap” happens to you they’re very good at convincing it’ll

get better. This is when you need to pay attention and guide and do what is best for you don’t think about what is best for her.

Most the time  waiting it out will never happen.

  9. I’ve had two Izusu D-Max and now MUX. Good running no issues. I like

the Ford truck style but each to there own. Would’ve looked at the Ford

trucks but to get the wife to negotiate or even go to dealer is like getting a true vegan to eat raw meat. The plan when we bought the MUX was another D-Max she saw the MUX and it was either find a way to shut her

up..... soooo we got the MUX.

There is an upside the older truck Papa would borrow everyday as long as it had fuel. The MUX never asked.
