Just happy to hear the BIL contributes.
The sisters and wife, can you not try to make something sustainable for them to make their own cash?
5k a month could be saved for a few months and make a fund for a food cart business or something.
It's odd that you have not requested info as to why they need more cash. I'd hate to think people have been comparing the farang and having loose lips about your generousity.
64 with retirement on the horizon I'd be concerned about this the same as you.
My try at getting them to make own money and run business.
Had a building built on front of lot near road with open cooking area, another room with large glass frig for cold drinks beer snacks etc. One side open with rollup door when closed and a enclosed room for storage resting etc. Wife’s an excellent cook and started a soup. I funded the stock for start up. Business was ok made 500-800 baht a day after paying Mama for help. Basically to keep wife “an idle mind is the devils playground “ from happening. went on week trip to US came back everything in the big commercial type store refrigerator gone. Snacks gone. The famil used it as “The Free Stroe”. It didn’t happen when I was around as I made everybody pay. Even myself.
Round two: 3 months later. Middle sister and wife do the work and split profits. I funded the start up for goods again. Went good for 2-3 months
then middle sister and boyfriend took the bank without splitting with wife which was 12,000 and took off.
Round 3: wife trying to do good wants to start it again. We did lasted two weeks.
Knocked out out the wall on the enclosed room. 1 section for moto , the other park the two cars. Nice garage!
The latest I was asked to fund a massgage shop in BKK so when I die or gone the wife would have work.
They say you can’t teach old dogs new tricks.... I finally said “No”.

I’ve only flown on short haul with ThaiSmile 1 hour or less. Enjoyed the delicious snack (hee hee) and slept. Could be do to recent incident with electronics fire on AC.
In Taiwan flight from/to jinmen/kinmen ( not sure why it’s called both)
to Taichung Taiwan on Taiwan airlines no electronics and do not stand up until they tell you to even if the airplane is shutdown and stairs are in place with door open to exit. Or they will let you know....
Good thing at security when flying out you can have a drink and not through it out. Don’t have to take shoes off. Lighter in carry on electronics cable sample no problem quick and easy.
Ive flown close to 3 million miles in my lifetime and enjoyed every bit of it...

Do as one of the popular Thai sayings. You think too much. I’ve AC i. The bedroom. When I go outside take a ride on the moto or car and enjoy the country side. If I need something from the store 20 km away
I usually wait till late afternoon.
Getting angry while it may give quick release will make for a shit day.
Ahhhh the prefect solution listen to music with earplugs that you enjoy
and calm the mind
im a hot head but have been trying to go with the flow cause we’re not going to change it much

Fair questions but there is not enough information to give specific advice.
- Did you build a new house to accommodate the family and did you pay for the land? Yes built new and bought land. Wasn’t expecting family to come along.
- Are the parents receiving the government pension. No he’s 57 and she 55
- Are they helpful, decent people with no vices (alcohol, drugs or gambling) and respectful. Mama and Papa seem to be ok.
- Is your wife working to help her family? No would probably spend more on fuel than what she’d make due to lack of education. You are paying her 2 sisters to do house and yard work plus you built a small house for one sister. The small house Is on land where the barn (shelter) cows are kept at night. The money paid to take care of cows would have to be paid to someone. So a trade off.
Did you pay sinsot (and or gold equivalent) when you married her? Yes but the amount was reduced per my agreement if problems with wife within a year.
Do you have a good financial situation, maybe you are financially secure and it is easy to support everyone? If you were just getting by on a pension it may put hardships on you? I’ll be 64 next year and I can hear Retirement knocking on the door.
They also have a brother who works in BKK and sends 3,000 a month
but that’s for oldest sister to take care of his two children 6 and 11.
I wanted to get an idea what others are doing to be fair. The Mama and Papa fish and work farm and sell at the small market.
My my concern is if and when the wanting of more will stop.
I think i will keep it at 5000 and if Mama Papa need something I will buy it. This would keep all of the. From thinking there’s a money tree.
Thanks to all for input.

Those of you that live in the NE appreciate your input. I live in village 1 hour from Udon 1 hour to Khon Kaen.
Me/Wife/ her Mama and Papa live in our house. Pay older sister monthly to take care of cows. Pay middle sister
to clean house. Have been giving Mama and Papa I give 5,000 baht a nmonth. I buy most groceries pay electric etc.
House is paid for and we built small house for the older sister.
My question is the 5,000 a month fair and comparable to what other pay? Reason being I was asked to give 10,000 and questioned why?
Thanks

It’s a bit pathetic. Pay them a decent salary to uphold the law and uphold it. Doubt it will change in my lifetime.

As long as not abusive it’s good and prepares you life. I served in late 60s and survived. Most the time it makes a person a better person OR Pushes them over the edge

Depending on your health drinking too much fluid is a danger. I have heart problems for 25 years. It was to pint if we laid flat when sleeping problems breathing.
Went to Dr. and told my heart condition is not strong enough to disperse fluid and was put on one 600 ml a day for a month along with
medications. Know I drink more but not to much and no problems.
I drank a lot of beer prior so to solve excess fluid I’ve gone to two short whiskeys a night on the rocks. No issues.

I’ve gotten a UK visa on website which was straight forward and no issues. But she’d been to US a couple of times prior and returned in the time allowed. No visa overstays.
The visa very for US was an ordeal denied twice. I called the embassy and asked is she a criminal or something I don’t know? Told to go to
embassy a two hour flight away.
Go to to appointment same as here a person behind the glass wall. He pulled out the file and a letter I wrote was on top. He said we are concerned of this letter being a fake. It’s in form used by agents and we’ve had many violate visas from your province.
I told him I wrote it, he got on computer and said ok tell her come in and get visa.
I had copied the format from an agent online.

Ive been on one Of the China tours (was married to Chinese) Thailand/China have made It fairly easy for Chinese to visit Thailand.
In general other countries a more of a proces. Chinese do like to
buy a lot of local things to give as gifts and boast their travel abroad.
Most do have habits like setting and making messes.

When I lived in China I had the misfortune of joining customers on a tour trip to Thailand. It was every other stop to shops and they yap yap if you didn’t buy. I refused to buy.
Once on a trip with my son asked Tuk Tuk driver to take us somewhere (forgot where) and he took us to a jewelry store and said we needed to buy something or no ride back. Told him to stuff it

Make sure your medical certificate is within the valid date. Dont
know if it’s 30 days or? Mine was expired because I decided to
use my Intl DL instead of taking the written test a second time. Wait time was for postal service.
First try answering what I thought was common sense ....doesn’t work
out that way. The only time I studied for written test in US was @ 15-1/2
the rest of the time checked to see what legal limit % is for alcohol. Lucky it was easy enough.
You should get Motorcycle and Car at the same time would save you any their trip.
Hace a China DL good for 10 years. No English study books at the time.
Took the written test 5 times in English (on computer) and failed.
Took it in in Chinese writing passed. A story for another time sitting at
the pub.

Where? BKK?
Up here in Udon Thani once I had to wait more than 15 minutes. The staff are very helpful and kind as long as you don’t piss in their coffee.
Once a guy was ranting and raving didn’t do any good. It got the through treatment and told to come back another day.
First time used agent in BKK but they didn’t stop to pick up gel on the way with the bill......painful....
with ThaiVisa forum and the information you can gain really makes it easy.
Thanks to all of you

Had similar happen at bank in China. Transferred USD to China Bank
the money never arrived after a couple of weeks back and forth with
bank they said I spelled my name wrong..... at that time I told them
I’ve had the same name for 56 years I know how to spell it.
Turns out the bank system had max amount of letters. So I didn’t realize when they opened my account they shortened my name.

It sucks but let’s hope it stabilizes. I lived China 10 years exchange rate was around 10 in the early years and 6 ish now. Was paid USD and had to learn to live with the decrease.

While an interesting snippet of information, it doesn't add anything to the conversation. Sorry. (As an aside, I've also come into contact with bikies through my work, including on one of their toy runs. I made no secret of the fact that I despise them.) I see their bar in Soi Khao Noi on the darkside every day, and I hate it. Thailand doesn't need these filth.

I’ve a HD in USA and ride with local HOG chapter and most wear leather
vest and work for a living. As a social club you can’t have MC on vest. A local biker gang saw one of our club that had MC. They called the president of our club and asked they remind members not to have MC.
Patch removed all good.
My son and I went to local bar near his house me on Roadking HD and he on 75 BMW. When we parked he saw a couple of VAGOS bikers and was worried about going in. We went in and I sat at bar next to them and talked over a few beers. No problem nice family guys. Maybe what they do outside is different but couldn’t judge them harshly when I met them

Hi DJ
Yes looks like you got a nice neat job.
Would you be so kind as to tell us the per sqm cost.
And what would be the fully indoor areas and roofed outdoor areas (normally taken between pillars without overhang)
Sorry I had the floor plan but can’t find it and not good at determining sqmtr it’s 2 bedroom 2 bath large living eating room and good size kitchen. 1 room is master bedroom and master bathroom. I could walk off the perimeter if that would help. Total not including land was 1.1 Mil baht. Will try find pictures of inerior.

I’m hoping you’ve met a wonderful lady and have many years of happiness together and seek both your dreams together.
I will share my experience about dowry when I got married. Married to a village girl which we’ve had many problems over the past two years.
She said you need to give Mama 1 million baht when we get married.
Knowing my wife being little concerned on our happiness when married
and a habit to take off for 1,2 days or a week and no explanation.
(Don’t need to hear why did you marry her I’ve asked myself that 1 million times).
I told the wife ok 1 million I gave Mama 200k on wedding day with a clause for wife if you take off and not say where etc. within 1 year no more money. If good 1 year then maybe more. She ran off a few weeks after being married.
She asked a few times when you give mama the rest of money. I said you know what I said and didn’t give more. I told her Mama should give me money back for broken goods.
I really do hope you have a successful marriage as many have but please keep your eyes wide open.

My wife didn’t do dishes finally tired of it I threw them all in the trash.
Asked where’s the dishes. In trash figured didn’t need them. She got them out and washed them ever since. Note I was working to full time jobs 8 hrs a day at both to make ends meet. And took the children to school between jobs. Graveyard and Dayshift

The Papa and Mama seem to be ok. Even though they can’t speak English Mama doesn’t ask me for money. Maybe she does through the wife. But then I question it.
Now Papa he will hold his back meaning it hurts need go to village doctor and says song lo baht (200 baht). Usually always on Friday.
I caught on quick Saturday it’s when the guys are watching boxing at shop across the street. I’m told he was pretty good Muay Thai boxer
when he was younger (professional or semi).
Sometimes if I’m in a good mood and he doesn’t ask I’ll give him 200 maybe once a month. If he asks I give him a chore to do like mow the yard (gas mower).
He tried switching up on me and held stomach it hurt. So I go in the room get stomach medicine. He hasn’t tried that again.
All in all the Mama (kinda) Papa and Older sister and Brother are ok.
Anyway thanks to all and enjoy the week! By the way I really like it here except for the rugs on the wallet.
