  1. US citizen I’ve lived in Northeast Thailand full time 2 years and in the big picture I have no regrets. I’ve spent a lot of time in APAC over the last 20 years but very few 2-3 day visits to Thailand on business.  Before Thailand 10 years I lived full time in China so was indoctrinated to culture shock.

The only regrets were mistakes on my part and as that hat goes I own it and go on with life.

  2. Agree some replies were off the point. Although I don’t go to the gym I know many corporate executives that generate their thinking by starting the day off in the gym.

    Below Copied from article

There are many pros when you go to the gym before work, and some take place at the gym, while others emerge after you leave. Even if you aren’t a morning person, research shows that most people are far more alert when they wake up than at any other time during the day. This elevated level of alertness helps improve your gym routine, while also offering a higher level of performance and interest on the job.

  3. Live in a village 20 clicks from a small town. You see motos with no tail light a lot. Asked m Thai friend that spent 40 years in. America and he’s just back. As noted most never Year motos lights are on all the time when running. He has a shop that sells soda, beers, food etc. He asked of of the younger generation teens and such and on newer model bikes with lights on all the time the have a kill switch installed to shut of back light as needed.  Coolness or what’re. In the case of older folks either they don’t notice or can’t afford it.  I try my best not to ride moto after dark but I have and on those country roads you never know what might pull in front of you....

in daylight was going around some OX carefully jumped on the throttle and one jumped in front of me. Laid it down but slid to the and he put his foot on and through the windshield.

Ox bolted as the rangler ran probably worried about having to pay

  4. Lived in China 10+ years.  They have a point system. Violations caught on traffic camera speeding, illegal parking etc. So if a driver is close to

max points and losing license they find a family member or friend or? Who has drivers license with no or little points or may not even have a car go pay fine and they get some money.

That worked for awhile not the camera shows the driver and no way around it.

China drunk drivers law. Zero tolerance. A friend had 1 beer at local pub (yes pub owned by Brit) and stopped by police. Lost license 6 months and had to go to traffic school. He was lucky in one aspect they could have put him in jail for i thin 15 days.

But they have have a pretty cool service. If your out drinking call the service a person with license and good driving capabilities comes where you are on small bicycle. Puts bicycle in trunk (boot). Takes

you home pay a small fixed/published price and they hop on the bicycle and on their way.

I lived out 4 kilometers in area with nothing near it. Felt sorry for the guy

off he went. car and I were home safely

  5. We live in a village and see many underage children riding motos. Some can’t touch the ground when moto is upright.

1- It’s dangerous if not properly taught. Most of you have see the 10? Year old that was killed when a moto from side street entered the main road.

2 - I understand in some cases the excuse is it’s the only way  to get to shcool. In the village there are several school buses picking up children.

3 - Its our job as parents to teach our children so when they get older they don’t run into trouble. A large number of children in the village drop out of school in 8th grade. I don’t kn what it’s called in Thailand but @ 14 yr old. Ultimately it gives them no opportunities in the future.

4 - For starters anyone breaking driving laws should be stopped to give a warning. If the child is a repeat offender levy a fine for both No hemlet and No drivers license. As well make the parents go to police station

With child to pay fine and a short video on drivers laws and show accidents to help educate.

We wont go into underage drinking in the village. Very young children look to be 11ish at concerts.

These things are recipe for disaster in some children.

  7. My Bank in US sets limit for ATM withdrawals. You can call bank and they can increase your daily limit according to there guidelines. My bank will allow up to $2000.00 a day but you need to ask bank.

Be be careful of cash advance on Credit  Cards. I wanted a cash advance the bank had me call them before approving. They said a cash

advance will change you interest on amount advanced to a very high

interest rate and instead of the interest rate accumulating in 30days

    it starts immediately.

  8. I went to get my Thai drivers 6 months ago and sat through a class that began with video. Part of the video a man was laying ground dreaming

of getting a license......  his dream was under a Drivers license tree. Seriously. So now I understand why they think there is a money tree.

I got got my drivers license for car and moto..... have license for both

in US and for car in China. China license is another story to be told

while sitting on a bar stool.

  9. I like the post and think it’s good  fair information ..... the forum is

a way to learn different ideas keeping an open mind.

in the summer. Hot and Muggy! Only visited my parents in winter months of Florida. I was born as fad south as you can go in Florida

  11. Same here. Live in village outside of Udon Thani. Every morning little

to no water same in evening suppose that’s when everyone’s using water. We have a well we can use but sometimes the smell is horrible

    and needs to be treated.

Have a tank of water for emergencies but unfortunately it was built

hillbillies style and doesn’t work properly.  My neighbor Farang down the road set his up correctly and has small inline electric pump and it works great.

You’d think the community would address the problem but they don’t

and just go with the flow..... or non flow.

All in all I like living here and will have to make upgrades when needed

for water. But not let a family member that doesn’t have a clue do it.
