How about extending the barrier so that it actually goes beyond the U-turn?  Not so far as to affect the vehicles on the opposite side doing a U-turn but far enough to make it near on impossible for cars leaving Big-C to drive directly across the highway.

Exactly - poor road design basically. I am not sure why people are blaming the police.

  2. So Anders accepts there are too many dogs on the loose. I dont think we need to hear any more from him. A cull is in order in certain areas.

I recall in Baku the authorities announce when the strays are to be rounded up giving people a chance to capture & secure their pets before the strays are picked up. Unlike various other animals like cattle, goats & sheep the dogs are dealt with away from public view.

fully uniformed officers from two different police departments showed up and began randomly approaching tourists and vendors.

The word "Police" is used for every conceivable body of law enforcers both in Thailand and elsewhere no doubt.

Why can't Thai media be more specific? Which departments were involved?

Higher profile policing is a must here - they need to be seen to get the crime rate down.

I've seen some lists of what is important in Thailand; indeed a falang tourist is below a dog. Natural pecking order at work, now move along.

Exactly..............locals too worried one of the dogs is an ancestor to cull them. The locals are more aware of the risks from these beach dogs.

LOL. No, it won't. The loss of the lower end of the financial strata will be insignificant, because of the change in visitor  demographics. The Russian and Asian visitor segments are experiencing double digit growth and they  present a much better value proposition for the Thais.

Do you mean as tourists or retirees?

    Been thinking about this

Not sure how this puts an end to agents and their corrupt contacts in Immigration

what it effectively does is -

    - extends the seasoning period to 6 months, really ???????

    - those that have used an agent now have to do it twice, paying an IO to ignore the seasoning on the extension application and then 3 months later same thing

It solves nothing - agents and corrupt IO get a payday twice now instead of once

whether through design or not people using agents will now have to do it twice

I'm not sure BJ even understands what is going on when someone pays an agent and immigration to ignore the seasoning, either way it is now going to be 2x times

The problem of agents and backhanders is not solved at all - it has now just doubled

and those that have been doing the right thing for years now have to season the 800k baht for 6 months instead of 3 - well done BJ - you have failed on this one and shafted a lot of honest expats who for years have been doing the right thing

If you have a retirement visa now and continue to keep 800,000 in the bank all year round and take a trip out of LOS within 90 days 4 times a year you dont need to go near an agency more than once a year just update your SAVINGS bank book on the day of departure and carry it with you when you re-enter LOS if they want to see proof of cash on hand. If they need to see an actual letter from the bank request one before you depart but that makes the SAVINGS bank book redundant.

    Well thats my plan anyway.
