While you are in Lotus JJ look for Chinese plum wine. A year ago it was 180 now 220B , it is very sweet but if mixed with the cheapest red plonk say, 2 parts plonk - 1 part chinese you get a very acceptable drink.
My litre bottle of Jameson from over t'border Maesai ( 500B ) is going fast so tomorrow over we go again . Wonder if they have Southern Comfort , did 2 years ago @ 350B.
If you like their plum wine then in those cold winter months up North take a look at the shelf where seesip degree sits and you shall see a red bottle with a red label with chinese characters on it. Heat that up in a saucepan, it's not quite gluhwein or Gloggy, but near enough to warm your cockles..
I was served it with a raw clove of garlic in a tin cup from a tin kettle in a small village way up North of Shenyang ....Bloody loved it!!
Perhaps I shall add it to a jug of Mont Clair and see what happens...

Is it any good though? I mean compared to the Mont Clair's and other faux wines in a box, is it the real thing?
I have drank it in the past and I am still alive.
Personally I think it is worse than Castle Creek but better than Mont Clair ...

Quite possible with some beasties. I was vomiting with 30 minutes of eating a spicy appetizer onboard a SwissAir flight from Delhi. It was First class too.
Yes eating Poached Forest Owlet stuffed with Beluga caviar rare is always a bad decision ......We should get in touch with the school immediately in case it is on Monday's menu...

While sitting in the packed canteen eating lunch, one of the children was heard to say, "There's not mushroom in here."
No problem they ended up sharing stools...

Can one go into a convenience store in the UK for example and exit holding a plastic cup filled with a fine English ale?

I also noticed Cedar Creek 4.5 litre at Tesco Lotus is less than 1,000 Baht so when my "secret" place runs out , that is where I will be heading..(I hope Vogie doesn't use the same offie and run the stock down!!!!)

I've just checked the date on my 5 litre MC Red which I bought for 1005 Baht on Buddha Day/Tuesday - MFD 04-09-17

Yes. A Farang dinner fork. Then painted over. Then removed. Yes, I saw that in the first 1/2 second!!!!!
Then I appologise for being a pathetic poster, making a pathetic joke and pathetically trying to explain it..
I will write out 100 lines of "I need to concentrate on my inabilities and subsequent inferiority to all living beings"

When you said pension i assumed you are 65+ and with 65 all insurers have a significant price hike, so 300 a month is realistic then. Luckily im younger, so my insurance is cheaper
Totally understand. My old age pension kicks in at 67, so as health insurance increases so does my income..

So you spend maybe half of this on health insurance and live from 300?
Good point, and an important one....I try to budget it in and it works out at 4,500 a month for health insurance (I am 62). Although I have no idea where you pay for health insurance that costs 300 quid a month but that is your choice the same as I have my choice.........but I need to reiterate I have savings to fall back on. I am doing this for self discipline more than anything else..

The Haven brekkie looks remarkably like the Retox one. They even have the overly sweetened "orange juice" (we need to go to Cambodia to get real orange juice!).
The breakfast I have in Haven doesn't include an "orange juice"... The two breakfasts may look the same ...(no they don't, but I'll run with your eyesight) They are completely different tastes and quality .....but that is just my opinion and I don't eat farang food that often so I will defer to you. Although it seems the masses of sheeple like Retox but I will never go there for food again...never...

Thanks. I ate there at the airport once. Never again.
Well I'm damn sure that S & P doesn't do Khao Soi "everywhere" like Minnehaha says - and yes the one at CM airport is bloody awful! In fact I am struggling to think of an S & P anywhere that displays the fresh ingredients required to make Khao Soi..
But back to the OP....500 USD a month? no way..maybe for one month but no longer..
I am having great fun trying to live off my 600 quid a month military pension. Not only is it fun, it also makes you get out of your bubble, learn Thai, go shopping, find bargains and start cooking for yourself....and doing the washing up, and cleaning, and laundry yourself..!!
But - and there is always a but - I have a financial safety net that I can call on if required .........

As advised, Breakfast Club Pattaya on FB will get you to Retox, The Haven etc.
And there you have total opposites within a space of 20m...
The Haven = top quality products cooked perfectly with an excellently brewed coffee
Retox = cheap products, overcooked, floating in oil with a warm brown liquid (It also comes with an orange warm liquid too)
It is up to the individual to decide which one is "English"...

Villa Supermarket?????? Some of their prices are way over the top, and please don't mention them in the same sentence as Foodland where they are not so greedy with their prices.
Villa Supermarket is a Norwegian Blue pining for the fjords but Dan Cheeseman thinks it's just resting......Beautiful plumage though...
