Call me cynical, but it rather smacks more of "please come back and bring lots of dollars as soon as you can."

The problem being of course that many of those other potential markets already know all too well the pitfalls involved when visiting here. Every tourist who went home with a story of being robbed, ripped off, injured, or other tragedy, compounded by the BIB who have set up many, many people over the years for quick cash, told their story to many who now won't be tempted.
I feel sorry for many who are honest and depend on tourism for their livelihood, but on the whole Thailand has itself to blame for numbers from many countries falling prior to this virus, which really is the icing on the cake.

I was waiting for the first clown to try to draw a connection between a faulty app, alongside a desire for the truth, with someones ability to govern. Two entirely separate things of course, to any rational mind at least, and it seems Donald Trumps campaign manager has won the prize. The truth has never been a strong point in Donald, but trying to form such a ludicrous connection sums up everything that is wrong with American politics. Sticking to the issues and discussing facts should be more important than trying to snipe cheap political points, something which if adhered to, would have the country in less of a mess than it is right now.

I think not. If you look at the photo, there is a body still on the roof of the vehicle, with another on the tarmac in the foreground. There is also much debris on the floor around the impact point.

That is truly terrible and thank god there were people nearby to assist. Shame they didn't notice what was happening seconds earlier.
I hope the young lad makes a full a recovery as possible.

Based on where his vehicle is, on the correct side of the road his story seems to stand up, and he didn't run away, a pair of firsts. Sadly tourists unused to riding a motorbike, or with any concept of the danger of Thailands roads will continue to rent one without a licence because of money.

Glad to see that he didn't turn up late for his own funeral then.

And the Pound is above 41 and rising. With half decent exchange rates and a lot less Chinese in town, seems like pretty good news all round. As long as you don't catch the virus and die of course.

The woman is an idiot who simply shouldn't be driving if that is how much attention she pays to what is going on around her. It also shows perfectly though the reason why kids should not be riding motorbikes. They simply do not have the understanding and awareness of the craziness that occurs out there and are not prepared to react quickly enough to avoid such danger.

Died of alchohol poisoning quite possibly. I find it interesting the amount of hysteria being raised over the virus. We have to date, globally 132 dead, which is about the same as get wiped out on Thailands roads every two days, but we don't see any measures being taken to contain that.

Sin city takes another kick to the nether region then. You never know though, some people who left because of the swarms of Chinese may sneak back in for a while and help keep the place alive.

Hysterical if true, though probably not. Fair play to him for giving it a shot though. After Edwards alleged antics anything could be believed. Charles though I believe must have had an undiagnosed problem with his sight to follow that filly.

No major surprise there. When the Junta stole power they swore one of their top priorities was to stamp out corruption. Naturally, as with everything else they put their hand to, like returning happiness to the people they failed dismally. Thais see those at the top creaming off whatever they can get, so it is no surprise that everyone is getting in on the act and the country is sliding ever backward and down.

There are a large number of comments I could make about this person, all true, but all likely to be construed as defamatory under Thai law.
There is a very good reason why his international donations ceased abruptly.
I would not give this person 25 satang and can only advise others of a charitable mind to find other worthy causes.

Lots of kids running around on some nice and expensive bikes. Not a helmet to be seen by any of them of course. Tragic that a kid on a 30-40-50K bike dies for lack of a 2000 Baht helmet, or the intelligence to know that head protection is critical when you are traveling at speed among other bigger vehicles. Even more so if you are running against the traffic the wrong way of course. I would call it the idiocy of youth, but it tends to carry on through all ages here.

I thought that everyone knew that while a katoey is interested in getting their hands on your crown jewels, they will happily take your valuables if that is what is on offer.

"Have you thought this through?"
Back flip worthy of an Olympic gold later...
"We are not giving free vouchers to tourists. Bad idea!"

I shall do as the deputy mayor suggests and get out there for a jog, just as soon as I can find breathing apparatus light enough to carry when doing so.

Interesting. It seems Veerachai wanted to find out who was behind the shooting of Big Jokes car and has been transferred to an inactive post as his boss apparently didn't want anyone caught. You have to conclude there is a very dirty trough somewhere the police have been feeding from, which they want kept super quiet.

I take that to mean Big Joke knows about some very dirty deeds and is being told to keep his trap shut about all of it. One wonders how far up the ladder the dirty trail leads?

And virtually no one supporting Trump has any chance of believing he is guilty. It really depresses me to see the two extremes in this write utter twaddle, twisting facts, putting things out of context and ignoring facts. The worst thing to my mind is Senators who are sworn to honour and respect the TRUTH, who seem to have made up their minds before hearing the evidence available. Evidence I might add, which would be substantially larger were actions not being taken to prevent some of it being heard, an action in itself which seems highly questionable.
Any calls of innocence or guilt before a full hearing of the accusations and supporting evidence are partisan speculation.
I can love someone to bits but if there is sufficient evidence that person is a monster, like the dog who killed three people at the Thai gold robbery,as a reasonable person I would have to accept it. It seems the Republicans don't want to listen in case they hear something they don't like. If Trump is innocent then all pertinent evidence (and I use the word pertinent, as suggesting bringing in the Bidens who are a sideline at best in the Presidents actions is pure stupidity, again only being suggested for political reasons, not in a quest for the truth), should be listened to, weighed and considered purely on its merits. If that can't be done, you need 100 new Senators.

And his attitude sums up the problem completely. He is utterly ignorant of the combined pollution he and his fellow farmers produce. To save some money he is happy to watch everyone elses health suffer. If he doesn't want to cut the old plants down, he should do what he suggests and grow something else.

Chinese tourism obliterated, but not to worry they'll be back at the double later, says minister

You just know the country is like a circus when you get Government Ministers behaving like a clown. Who knows how long the virus situation will be with us, or how willing Chinese will be to travel afterwards? Such statements are just stupid nonsense.
