  1. Hi,

I will probably move during the year.

It is quite clear what to do for Embassy, immigration, bank accounts, etc.

Is it required to update the drivning licences ? Even if not required is it possible to have done (I find the driving license a great tool to prove adress/ID whicl in countryside)

    Thanks

You're supposed to update your lic. by law. Easy to do,just provide proper document at local lic. dept.
  2. A recent post in the Airblade/Nuovo thread mentions fork oil. My CBR150R is now almost 4 years old, with 43,000 km. I'm a 91 kilo rider, and sometimes have 56 kilos of cargo/passenger. Should I change the fork oil by now? And in the process, should I ask them to put heavier weight fork oil in there?

Likewise, the unishock at the rear - does it ever get its oil changed? Again, can we use heavier oil?

If you're changing the oil stick to the manufacturers suggested oil. What might need changing are the springs after carrying alot of weight for a long period of time. Check to see if you're rear shock bottoms out quickly, just sit on it and bounce. Changing is not expensive.

  3. Arriving with family back in LOS in a few months, need a car to get the wife and 2 kids around before moving into home and buying loads of stuff for house.Flying into bangkok,so is bkk best place to buy second hand ? Any recommendations on used car sales places ? Or is (outside capital) better ? Thanks from Neil.

Places are just about on every corner,BKK or upcountry. Or try internet. www.tarad.com

  4. OK guys, i am new to permenant living in Thailand (5 weeks now) and have a question on motor vechile ownership. Can I own (in my name) more than one motorbike and one car (or truck). I had this conversation with a long time resident and he said as a falang I could only own 1 motorbike and one car. Anymore vechiles would have to be registered in the wife's or GF's name. As I would like to own a bike, car and truck I need this questioned answered.

    thanks,

    rokit

As stated by others your mate doen't know anything about owning multiple veh.
  5. Hi all, I have had a motorcycle lisence for over a year (it's expired) my car drivers licence will expire on the 3. of april. Will I be able to renew both of them for five years if I went today (tomorrow actually) ? all other paperwork are in order. The reason I ask, is that I will leave for europe on the 28. of March, and I will have an expired driver lisence by the time I get back. After all I've had a thai driver lisence for more that a year (including the lisence for the motocy) or is the rule one year for the lisence you're applying for?

will I have any chances? anyone tried this?

    PS!

sorry if this has been asked and answered before

    Morty

Go and renew mc lic. you'll get 5 yrs. Wait for your return on the car lic. If you renew now you'll only get 1 yr.
  6. IS the bike an import?

If so you will need the import ducuments proving the taxes have been paid, if you don't have that no book. With them anywhere from 50K to 80K you can get a book

There really is no mystery you have an illegal motorcycle

    Does it have plate?

    Current road usage permit?

    Curent insurance sticker?

What kind of bike is it?

    What size?

It's a little more complicated then someone writing a bill of sale.

That interesting the first time I have ever heard of anyone being asked for a book by a Police Officer.

My bike didn't have a book for a couple of years ... I got the info from the dealer finally and went in to khon song jangwat phuket (bought the bike originally in HuaHin) the total cost in getting the book and insurance was about 1000 baht ... NOT 40-50,000!

Compare apples to apples. The 40-50,000 is the price for a larger imported bike not a 100cc step-thru that had lapsed in reg. fees.

  8. I know the rules to have a car or motor bike in your own name, you need a letter from Immigration confirming your address, and a visa. Well this is what i needed when i bought my motor bike in May 2006. The car i bought from Chevrolet 2 years ago is in my wifes name as i did not have a visa at the time.

I have just been to the Chevrolet dealers in Sakon Nakhon where i live to buy a Colarado Crew Cab, i asked the sales man which visa i needed ie could i do it with just a 3 month O visa or did i need a 1 year one. He made a call to the head office and they told him i could buy it without a visa, i only needed the letter confirming my address from Immigration.

Has anyone else came across this with Chevrolet?

    Thanks in advance

    Geordie

It's not Chevy. There are reports of farangs buying on 30 day on arrival visas. Different rules in different Dept. of vehicles.
  9. Hello MaiChai

The bike is registered in my Uk friends name, the local honda dealer arranged this for him ( he is here on three month multi entry visa ).

I have been living in Thailand for 4 years on 1 year visa / work permits ( I allready have a car and bike registered in my name, but in both cases the dealer / seller took care of the arrangements). I just supplied a copy of every page of my passport and work permit.

Can you get the document for the transport ministry from the web ?

Do you have a name of a reputable registration service ? I was going to ask my local Honda dealer, who service my other Honda if they could help.

You can get the papers from any bike, car sales dealer. To transfer the name only is about 2,000bht. I would go with the dealer you know already.
  10. I want to chrome some parts of my motorbike so I look for a shop who can do the job.I know a few shops in pattaya who can chrome but what I am looking for is the real hard chrome. That means they put a thick layer of chrome which is wear resistant and they polish it after. This way you can put it on exhausts for example without changing colour when get hot.Anyone has an adress for me?Thanks in advance.
Chroming here is not the same as back in the west. Have not heard of any real good jobs here. You could try East Coast Choppers in Pattaya as they build some choppers. Hot Rod Pattaya also have connections to chroming shops in BKK. I've found the best way is to buy after market chromed already, price is about the same.
  11. I have a Honda Steed 600cc & just recently have had problems with flat battery. I have had work done on the bike within the last 6 months re-new leads oil & water change of plugs. This was by choice only. Since this work the bike will not start if left over 2 days then the battery is flat. I have also purchased a new battery. Anybody have an ideas what the prblem is? I live in the Prachinburi Kabinburi provience & if anyone knows of any chopper repair shops this would be a great help.

NOW DESPERATE TO GET TO THE BOTTOM OF THE PROBLEM!!!

Something is draining the battery or the new battery is no good. Try disconnecting the battery and see if it starts after 4 days, make sure battery is fully charged. If it won't start being disconnected then it's the battery, take it back, should have 3mo. warranty. If it starts after 4 days then you're looking for a short.
  12. Hi

Does anyone know where, and how to get a motorcycle that has been imported into Thailand, registered and given a green book here in Thailand? I've been told there are two different charges for this, 50000 and 80000, when the higher charge is made the bike is usally inspected. If anyone has any more information about this two thier charge and any info about the inspection, please let me know. Also what paper work for the bike and myself will i need to register it.

Where to start???? First, used motorcycles are not allowed to be imported into Thailand unless you are the owner and have been for over one and one-half years before permanently moving to Thailand. You must have the title from the country you moved from, the export-import papers and a letter from the Thai Ministry of Commerce giving you permission to bring the bike into Thailand. However, used bikes are smuggled into Thailand all the time, some are bikes broken down and called "spare parts" others are whole bikes brought in by other means. One way or another some of these bikes get registered. None of it is legal. Nuff said.

You say none of it is legal. Hogwash would be a mild word, you really have no idea of what you're talking about. Nuff said.
  13. I tried to find out about costs of cars - Vigo or Izuzu type trucks and was told that if you purchase from the Toyota or Izuzu dealer then the price is the same everywhere.

    Are discounts possible?

I know I could get it cheaper if I didn't go with the main dealer but then you have to go back to that dealer for servicing everytime (or so I have been told).

    Thanks in anticipation,

Not much discount in price but dealers will give options away. Some will even pay for 1st class ins. for a year. Don't know what you mean by main dealer.
