  1. Forgive my ignorance if this is a stupid question: If I have regular alloy wheels, is it possible to get them 'chromed?' (Of course, without ruining them). If so, how much would it cost to 'chrome' a set of 20" Alpina rims? Anyone know? Here's a pic of the rim as it stands now:

    Thanks,

    teej

I just checked out chroming my alum. wheels on mc and quoted 10,000 per wheel. Chroming here is likely not the same quality as abroad.

  2. Lots of ugly middle aged men with young prostitutes at the NaNa Gullivers. Is it a favoured ThaiVisa haunt?

I don't know. It's not in my neighbourhood. So where do the ugly middle aged women who are no longer with the ugly middle aged men hang out? Is that a popular ThaiVisa spot too??? :o

I don't know where female sex tourists go.... Nigeria ???

I've gone there with a take-away from Soi 4or7 and they called me hansum. All in the eyes of the beholder.

  3. If the driver in the wrong (the cop) in this case wasn't a cop, funds would have been collected on the spot by the insurance adjuster -claim then signed by both parties involved of course-. One only has to go to the police station if both drivers the insurance adjuster (sometimes more than one) can't agree who is in the wrong. Still sounds like the cop got off lightly, unless he coughed up the funds for the damage as well.

    :o

The adjuster aranged to collect from the other party. He wanted me to go to another body shop which was owned by his friend but I said no, I'm going to the one recommended by adjuster.
  4. Yesterday afternoon out for a drive. I'm approaching a T intersection and going to turn left, a pickup is coming from the left and turning right. In the process of turning we make contact tearing off my front bumper. I stop right there. The other driver comes over to my car and I see he's wearing police uniform, first thought is I'm dead in the water. I get out of car and look closely at point of impact and he has shaved the corner too much and I figure I'm in the right. He calls a friend driving a body snatcher pickup and I call my insurer,Sampanh. The adjuster calls for directions to acc. and we wait. One of the body snatchers says move my car as I'm blocking traffic. No. I'm staying put. Before adjuster arrives MIB says not much to his car he'll take care of his and my ins. will take care of mine. No. I'm waiting. Adjuster arrives and quickly takes pics and calls police station for MIB to make report. Senior officer arrives and takes his pics and measurements. In the meantime the other driver has called acouple friends also MIB for help. Adjuster tells me I should be ok just wait a while. After consideration and listening to both stories, his defense is I didn't have turing light on. Adjuster says we're good and can go to police station for report. Arrive at pol.stat. and both turn in out dr.lic. again. They now mention for us to go to the cashier. Cashier writes out ticket to MIB and he opens wallet and pays 400bht fine. That seals it and we're off to the body shop to make appointment to repair car. Total time 3hrs. Hats off to investigating officer and insurance company.

  5. The reason for it being so low is that we haven't had an accident all year that was our fault, we did have a fender bender wehre the thai guy admitted fault.

Guess I'll stick with them then, They tell me next year if I dont have an accident I get a further decrease in rates to 40 percent. :o

    Greg

Have a real good look at what you're covered for and what are the limits. Also look at what value they have put on the vehicle for write-off or theft. 12,000 as mentioned by others seems almost impossible for a 2006 with 1st class coverage.
  6. This shouldnt take long to answer..

I have a freind who wants to leave thailand for a holiday, shes 18.

Her parents are dead set against it as shes going to visit her bf etc.

What is the legal age at which a thai may leave thailand without parental consent?

    Cheers..

    Van

She can get her own passport and doesn't need parental consent. The problem will be getting a visa.
  7. Looking at prices it seems cheaper to buy a return ticket than a single so i guess we could buy a return ticket and not use the return to the UK bit. just buy a return ticket back to Bankok when we are ready to go back to the UK for our next visa, would that work?
The cheapest way would likely be to buy a one way to BKK and then do a visa run to Penang,KL,Singapore, etc. You don't have to return to UK for a visa.
  8. Did anyone ever own a Honda Sonic 125? Are they any good? Reliable? Thrifty on fuel? Do you have to change gears every 500 metres? Do you have to drive with the throttle wide open all the time? What's not good about them? Would you recommend it or not as an urban commuting bike? They're quoting 48, 000 for them in one of the dealers on Rama 4. Anywhere cheaper?
The boy has one and has very few problems. Good fuel economy. You'll be changing gears every 100m. Prices may vary by 1000-1500,go to a couple others and say you're paying cash.
  9. I moved up near Khampaeng Phet a couple of years ago just after I renewed my Thai driving licence.

Does anyone know if I have to change the address, presumeably to Chanwat Khampaeng Phet and where I would go to do so.

Also the car is still registered in BKK and I suppose I should get that done also.

If you're planning on staying put for a few years just go down to the veh. reg. office, can do dr.lic. as well. You'll need a letter conf. residence. Changing is not a big expense.
  10. I have parts for my BMW classic motorbikes that need chrome plating, can anyone recomend a good plater in the Pattaya area. I am also interessted in shops that do políshing of aloy.

    Thanks for any advise.

Go to Hot Rod Pattaya or Eastcoast choppers. You could also go down to Blues Factory bar and talk to Dave, very knowledgeable.
  11. Stayed there 2yrs. ago. Rooms good, rest. fair. Some const. going on in front now so don't know if noise is a factor in the daytime. Would recommend it to non-bar tourists. You might also try the Honey a bit further down, even stayed there with mom.

  12. Ok…I’m back.

Sorry for my slow response, HAD TO FINISH MY WORKS FIRST!

Thanks all you guys for taking the time to response. Good and informative advices here.

I’ve been to Thailand many times and familiar with “the free for all” attitudes of the thais when sharing the same roadways. :D I think the thais are taking “Mai Pen Rai” attitudes a little too far for my liking when driving! But this is Thailand…not suppose to complain too much….”Jai Yen Yen” right?

Do you think having many buddha images on the dash board - will help me....LIKE THE THAIS? :D

I just thought it would be nice to do something unique/special this time around for my bride since this is our 20th anniversary. By the way she’s thai, and we met while she’s studying in the US. BIG BIG cupid arrows - Love at the first sight :D – while doing our laundry at our dormitory.

Where am I…Oh the roadtrip... So naturally I just want this trip to be sort of the “HONEYMOON”, since we’re married quite young during our university yrs and never really had one to begin with – no time, got to study. I always pictured ourselves one of these days, driving around Thailand exploring the countrysides, just the 2 of us only (with her reading the map, of course), without the 3rd wheel coming along. Indeed it would be quite a romantic time together - sipping “nam tan sod” and eating “som tom” along the beach or rest stop somewhere, or having “spicy fried squid” with “thai ice-coffee” for our morning breakfast!....while writing romantic poems for each other. And hmm… this’s making me hungry!. :o:D

Anyway back to the topic. After reading those above valuable advices I think this is what we’re going to do.

Self drive – BKK airport – Rayong – back to Sri Racha – Chonburi…..since the roadways are quite straight forward – less complexed

With driver – Chonburi – Kanchanaburi – Rachaburi – the roads design look like spaghetti weaving to me

Self drive – Ratchaburi – Petchaburi - Hua Hin – hopefully this route should be a painless adventure - back together again - just the 2 of us....driving while holding her hand (just like the old times - but this time will be her right hand!)..soooo romantic! :D

What do you guys think…..COOL plan huh? :D

No not a real cool plan at all. You've rec'd lots of free advive from people who live here and you still won't listen. One of the busiest sections is your last self drive. Lots of construction now, widening the hwy. I would have both hands on the wheel and hold hands when the car is parked. :D
  13. I'm looking to buy a small motorcycle such as a Yamaha Nuovo / Mio / ZR (110cc). Does anyone know of any (large) dealers/showroom/shops in Bangkok which sells new ones?

There's a big one near Sirinakarin and a really big one in Klong Toey. Now where can I find one in Mississippi?

  14. Depends on the finance co. Go in and talk to them,if you're not going to save any money then maybe better to let the agreement run out. If you pay it out you will have to go in with wife and she tell them to put the car in your name. You can get the letter conf. res. from your embassy,Thai immig. or the local police.

  15. muchas gracias everybody,

I'll start surfing on those websites right now..

see you in a while :o

can anyone tell me how much the license plate and insurance cost, and how long it takes before I can get it, once I've bought a smaller type of motorcycle ?

Someone else correct me here - I didn't do this myself. They are both very cheap. The paper work is almost instantaneous; but you don't get the number plate until one month later ?

I forgot your other question. If you buy a Dream / Wave, you can buy them in every town (even Phibun !). But the bigger bikes I think BKK is better.

You can buy new&used bikes everywhere and the price will be the same as BKK. You might want to look at buying a bike 2-3 yrs' old. Then when you decide to sell the loss won't be much. The bike will also have a plate. Transferring ownership might take a month.Driving thru Laos and Cambodia on small wheeled bikes will be difficult as the roads are not real good.

  16. Sad story and it will probably end up more sad, the guy will get away, no matter what, americans always do have a capability to get away with all they are doing most of the times, like you say Donkey, maybe she wasn't all legal, but he didn't also and Maigo has a point here, he WILL have to live with it all his life and that's not gonna be easy...

I'm not American or a supporter but your statement is absurd in regards to this tragic incident. Any nationality can choose to settle the issue this way.

  17. I got this one for sale, 650.000

just having a tune up, rejet carb, near new tyres new front disc.

    its a 1999 heritage softail.

A much better machine. Fatboys are turds IMHO! I rode one for a while. An Electroglyde is better than a fatturd!

You're talking about 2 different kinds of bikes. An Electra is a tourer. Can't compare the 2 for riding comfort. In traffic and around town The Fat Boy is more practical. Turd!

  18. Hello. Does anyone have knoweldge of how to send or a bank in Canada that I can use to send money to my bank in thailand(Bangkok Bank) I know about western-union and they very expensive

I would like to just go to a bank in Canada abd send the money to my bank in Thailand. Any help would be appricated.

The cheapest and fastest is Bank of Montreal. Cost is $25.00 and have checked balance by phone and usually less than 48hrs. Once less than 24.
  19. We also went thru couple checks on way down but just waved thru. It was the checks right in Pats that were the problem. Don't know the numbers first hand or makes but apparently all types. From info of friend who was at station on another matter they said 34.
