  1. Agree! Only last week Mrs and myself were in Phuket and hired a 125cc Honda Click. I'm around 100kg & the Mrs is around 80kg. I suppose that's overloaded but there still seemed enough power up the hills. Of more concern was the amount of traffic and, even worse, pedestrians crossing the roads without looking first.
  2. Stepson's marriage was only recently (12 November 2022). I paid for approx. £6,000 GBP worth of gold. I haven't been asked for any money for this purpose up to now.
  3. My Thai (step) daughter-in-law (an only child) previously lived with her maternal grandparents. She has no father. Her mother (also an only child) borrowed 200,000 baht against her parents house without their knowledge. Mother didn’t repay her loan. Mother now disappeared/incommunicado. I assume the choice was either report their daughter to the police for fraud or repay her loan themselves? My daughter-in-law has repaid her mother’s loan. Yesterday, Mrs took daughter-in-law and her grandparents together with a friend to their amphur where daughter-in-law made a will witnessed by my Mrs and her friend. I understand this was necessary because as my daughter-in-law now ‘owns’ her grandparents house she needs to ensure that, should she die first, her grandparents have somewhere to live. Anyone with knowledge of such scenarios in Thailand?
  4. Incredible! Good job they didn't request mine. Father left home in 1971 and died 25 years ago. How could I produce his (assuming he ever had one)?
  5. There will never be any shortage of poor people prepared to take risks.
  6. I was asked to explain why someone else who has a Yellow Book wasn't asked for it (maybe didn't have it with them, offer it or wish to show it)? Difficult to answer that. My wife was previously asked to sign her photocopies in front of the IO. Now that is no longer necessary. She may no longer need to close her shop for a half-day if her presence is no longer required?
  7. Wow! After a trip to the Embassy and MOFA, finding fault with the transcription (performed by a Thai) must rank as just about the pinnacle of awkwardness. My Amphur delighted in telling me to go through this same process again when they already held the same documents obtained recently for marriage. At my last Retirement Extension application in October 2022 the IO requested photocopies of all TM28's/TM30's stapled inside my passport, something they had not done previously. I fail to see the importance of the historical ones but I didn't argue!
  8. Until I was issued with my Yellow Book/Pink ID Card immigration asked for photocopies of my Thai wife's Blue House Book and her ID card. Now, they accept a photocopy of my Yellow House Book.
  9. Totally agree! Took me 4 years to get my Yellow Book and Pink ID card. Only then by chance. Managed very well until then. Only used for Retirement Extensions.
  10. An incredibly tedious and frustrating application. Flinging your wife's mobile back at her is totally out of order too. The only things I can think of are to either; a) Ask a Visa Agent if they can assist (there will be a fee to pay of course). b) Register yourself at a friend's address that comes under a different Amphur. Once registered anywhere else in Thailand, transferring to your real address is a much simpler process.
  11. Many thanks for your time and effort in making this report. I'm certain it will help others.
  12. Many thanks and respect for your honesty Sir! Also, RTP proved themselves honest too.
  13. That's the key to it. If people corroborate her story then there must still be a prosecution but a suspended sentence for GBH should be as worse at it gets.
  14. That is true. However, the patient is now a debtor in a foreign Country. Not in the best position to insist upon his rights.
  15. Thai's themselves admit they do it. They're not bragging or making excuses, just stating that is what they (Thai) people normally do when faced with similar situations.
  16. Many thanks for the update. Shows what can be done with initiative and hard work. I hope your friend improves quickly. Sounds as if he's in good hands.
  17. Entirely agree. There may be no explanation/excuse for what she did but she'll regret it for the rest of her life. We've all done things we can't believe why we did them at the time but, fortunately, the outcome is usually much less serious.
  18. My Mrs accelerates when approaching traffic lights which are green, any experienced motorist knows that you should, instead, be 'easing off' if the lights have been green for some time. Would certainly help reduce my blood pressure!
  19. My personal experience is being 'bowled over' by a moto with sidecart. My Thai niece was walking beside me. The rider (with pillion) stopped, looked over their shoulders then quickly departed. Fortunately, we only received bruises. Thai niece said; "they always run away in case it might cost them something".
  20. Read that they become 'inactive' when temperature is lower than 18C. Doesn't seem to be the case either!
  21. Thanks for all the info! Like many people, I hook coils in the neck of bottles. Most annoying when yourself and others kick them over 15+ times per night! Unfortunately, my Mrs insists she can't tolerate the smoke indoors.
