Can any country afford to wait out the virus, in anticipation of a vaccine that may or may not be effective?
I don’t think so.
So they have to open up. Should they open up quickly or slowly and what kind of safeguards are they contemplating? They’re talking about quarantines before flying and after arriving. That’s not going to work for tourists. They’re talking about only sending tourists for long stays on Koh Phangan and Koh Samui, which is interesting since there are no actual hospitals there as far as I know. They’re talking about demanding some kind of document stating the tourist is free of Covid19. These must be no more than two days old. In my country it would not be possible to find a doctor to sign such a document, since they know the results are only valid at the time of testing. Demanding these types of documents is basically just an invitation for scams.
And then I come to the final obstacle: obtaining insurance against a long stay in a Thai ICU for Covid19. That won’t be easy for tourists. I’ve had no luck finding anything appropriate.

I have no idea what happened here, and didn't follow the link, but don't British males kiss/peck female acquaintances and friends on the cheek for hello and goodbye?

On reading the title of this topic, I hoped it would be “Not a Soi Dog... to be found anywhere”. Because they’ve all been eaten in these dire times. Sort of a cloud-with-a-silver-lining situation. Alas, nope.

There are always paracistes around
Well I ll give you a lesson, as it seems you need a few. Before you start ridiculing and pontificating, throwing out insults.......learn to spell. It's "parasite"!!Secondly to you and all those others who seemed to take exception to my rather crude, but disposable remark. Get your hands in your pockets and help these people out, if this is how you feel. In the mean time I ll shop round for a car that is heavily discounted due to people losing their income. Most of you sat there wringing your liberal socialist hands in dispair, might be the same folk who ripped another ass into those 2 Brits and their young family, who fell upon desperate time 2 weeks ago in Koh Pangang. If you think all this is unfair or unjust - I ll show you that there's nothing fair to just in society. A good part my income comes from two council properties I bought in the 1990s from the local authority, heavily discounted. They cost me barely a years pay. Today they're valued at nearly £500k. And earning me nearly £2000 a month leased out to the very same council who sold them to me, and have been for years.I m not a parasite I am an astute businessman. GET OVER IT.I know nothing about you except what you’re stating here. And I have two comments.
1. Those who live in glass houses should work on their spelling too.2. If you live on the business you describe here you are the very definition of a parasite. You can be an “astute businessman” and a parasite at the same time, the terms are not mutually exclusive.

I always thought that 21 sqm was well below what I could live in. Then I started to look at my current home with new eyes and realised I was paying a lot of money for space to store my stuff. Stuff. Just stuff. Things I’ve acquired over the years. Things I don’t really use but don’t feel comfortable getting rid of. At least not yet. But when the resentment of paying for storage space is stronger than the connection to the stuff then I will be free. Well, freeish. Free to maybe live on 21 sqm. But that would
mean spending a lot of the time outside.

You wear the mask to protect others, not yourself. That's pretty consistent with how the masks have been used in Asia for quite some time. Does it help? Maybe a little bit, but at least it's polite. Part of the lubricant that oils the wheels of society:)

Let 'em liquidate. The strong shall survive. I'm sick and tired of incompetent corporations and their officers getting rewarded for malfeasance. Most of the US majors have already screwed their investors and employees at least once. I refuse to get sloppy thirds. ????
I think you've lost it. This is an extreme situation that isn't caused by incompetence of the corporations. Most if it ordered by national governments and the people who would suffer the most if this event leads to a cold survival-of-the-fittest situation are the lowest wageworkers everywhere. Cabin crews and baggage handlers. You can take your brown-shirted 1930's attitude of "the strong shall survive" and...

F the airlines and their greed in paying for carry on bags and seat selection charges.
They've nickeled and dimed the customers for too long now unchecked.
Oh please, are you sad everything isn't included anymore? I'm sure I can set up a web site for you where "everything" seems to be included in the base price. The tickets won't be the cheapest though.
One reason these fares are all bare-bone, no-frills, everything-has-to-be-added is because of price comparisons online. -

Can we expect hashtags like #sideline to start trending a lot more on Twitter as the result of this?

No there isn't. It's more like Steve McQueen in the movie The Great Escape. The PM2.5 particle is the motorcycle, Steve is the covid19 and the barrier is the path into your lungs.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ccVu992CYE
It’s a powerful scene and all, but are you sure you want to make the virus the protagonist? ????

Apparently smoking increase the amount of ACE2 receptors in the lung. The virus use these receptors to attach itself.
So there’s no West Side Story’esque gang fight going on in my lungs between the PMs and the CVs? It’s more like the PMs are the pathfinders for the landing of the CVs?

Bacterial and virus travel from one person to the other via moisture in the air. If there is no moisture in the air it is harder for it to transfer. That is why when it is cold and raining people get colds etc. I have trouble telling but where I am it seems to be hot and not overly humid which hopefully will cut down on infections. Naturally air conditioning in public places creates lots of moisture in the air which would be a great environment for transfer.
I think you’ll find that air conditioning actually removes moisture. That’s sort of how it works. Or do you mean on the other side, i.e. the moisture is just pumped elsewhere?

While this virus continues to spread in Thailand, the very hazardous burning continues in the North. I mention this in connection to the virus because the massive amount of smoke must be weakening the immune systems of people in these areas. People with weak immune systems are more likely to die from the virus than are those people with strong immune systems. It would make sense for the government to stop the burning in coordination with minimising the spread of the virus. But this will not happen because This Is Thailand.
I have this weird mental image, based on no amount of science at all, that the pm2.5 particles and the Coronavirus are competing for the same parts of my lungs. Enough of the pm2.5’s means there’s no place for the virus to attach itself. I don’t believe in it, but the image is still there.

The disaster for these sports may be that, the public having experienced that life is just fine without some sporting events, they will never be funded again.

so are you confirming that in Agelwitch the <deleted> actually will do 'extra' services in the main arena?
have you partaken?
I am not confirming that and I would argue that it would have had to happen in a dark corner without the knowledge of the manager or the mamasans. So it would have been rather difficult to claim their help in getting paid for it. There was definitely something else going on here.
And I'm a little worried about what stupid word you used to get it replaced by "<deleted>". -

Up until late November/early December last year I would have agreed with you. However, around that time I was sitting on the first tier seats talking with the Dancer I've known for some time together with some service staff and glanced over my left shoulder to the rear tier seats and there was an Asian gent with a head bobbing up and down at lap level just visible behind the separating panel. I guess business was slow or he tipped well. First time I've seen such within this bar.
As for police, they are around quickly when needed.
Sorry for the time it took me to respond, but I called it based on the likelihood of a scam of that nature at AngelWitch - I have no doubt that the appropriate amount of money and alcohol will get you a bj or hj from someone in any dark part of AngelWitch. And the head bobbing might be related to action on the outside of your pants/trousers... I still have some lipstick marks at zipper level that are really difficult to get out.

So, this article seems to say that instead of telling people to stay at their home for two weeks, the people arriving from the countries on the list may be put into guarded military bases.
"
Dr Suwannachai said that healthy people returning from Covid-19 risk countries would be quarantined at specific and guarded facilities. Previous returnees were being monitored.
Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon said five military compounds were prepared to quarantine Thai workers who would return from South Korea.
Defence Ministry spokesman Lt Gen Kongcheep Tantrawanit declined to elaborate on their locations, citing security reasons."

If this virus is so virulent and easy to catch and it can survive outside the body on different surfaces and the paper face masks do nothing to protect the wearer and all of these people arriving from other countries are so dangerous - shouldn't all the immigration officers be sick by now? Is there an endless supply of them? Or do they recover just in time to replace the ones who get sick? I mean, the passengers have to remove their face masks, if they have any, and documents are passed between passengers and officers. Theoretically, all the officers should be out of commission by now. Are they? Can we tell the difference from BAU?
My point is that maybe there is too much paranoia. At least I hope so. I will arrive at Suvarnabhumi tomorrow...-

I get up between 4 and 5 every morning. You clearly have no idea how expats in Pattaya live. You seem unable to distinguish between 2 week tourists and expats.
I love walking around in Pattaya (sober) at 4-5 am after a good night's sleep. There's something oddly uplifting about it all:) When it's time to go to my home country, I try to make sure I leave Pattaya early in the morning. Those early mornings really make me miss the place more in all its depravity...

Validation for my actions and decisions here on TVF where it's half full with keyboard warriors such as yourself, oh please, behave how you will with your kids as you do, but don't think our kids will be installing a dancefloor on my grave, you can't see what goes in my house and have no idea how we raise and praise our kinds, read a few lines and think you know everything.
My father was 10 times the man I am, belted the <deleted> out of me and taught me about respect, learning respect starts inside the house, earning respect from others outside of the house it is the next stage, i.e. if they aren't taught respect, how on earth would they know what it is, sort of learning how to walk before you can run, too bad your parents didn't teach you to hold your tongue before you think.
Let's all remember the "good old times" when grown men beat up on kids without repercussions...
The fact that your kids are questioning your rules around mobile phones is a sure sign that they are comparing your household to those of their peers. I don't think you will benefit from that comparison.
You were obviously not taught respect since you don't seem to show any towards your kids. Heads-up: they're not really your kids. They might be your responsibility right now, but they're individuals in their own right. You don't own them.
I'm sorry you see me as a keyboard warrior, but I get really triggered by people bragging about beating up on kids. -

It seems like "respectable people" don't like Pattaya and never go there.
Makes me think of Marlena Dietrich in the movie Shanghai Express :
