Actually i do have two accounts and another in my wifes name ,but as i say its my money why cant i spend it?With new rules you effectively have to keep 800k or above for 5 months and then also the 400k rest of year. One could easily make a mistake. Grab wrong card, misjudge dates, whatever. I'm just going to lock in 800k. Have another account for living. To each their own.

After reading all this is it right that anyone who did their yearly before these new rules came out can actually spend their 400,000 baht if they wish ,but cannot after they do their next yearly

Why not do what all the others do ,get a dinghy and float over from Calais, you only need to get halfway then you phone the patrol and get picked up.

1 hour ago, ubonjoe said:The first step will be having your uK marriage certificate legalized. Info for doing it is here.
https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/714089/Legalisation_info_June_2018.pdf
Then you will have to have it translated to Thai and then have the translation certified by the Department of Consular Affairs of the MFA in Bangkok.
Then you will be able to register your foreign marriage at a Amphoe to obtain a Kor Ror 22 marriage registry to prove it was registered. Thanks very much,i will be in the uk soon so will at least get the Milton keynes bit sorted ,after that it will be a nightmare dealing with the Thai Embassy in London if what they were like before is anything to go by lol

We left over 20 years ago and went back to the UK ,then came back after 8 years, where we lived was expensive ,had bad schools and was full of bloody foreigners. It would be nice to feel wanted here. I will have to try harder to convince my wife to permanently leave. She wonders why I dislike the place so much.

Well i had my 800,000 in for 3 months ,and took 100k out for living so only 700,000 in now which according to the rules then is ok ,and i dont need to keep 400,000 in until next time ,right?Yes, I would suggest they will want to see the 3 months/7 months/2 months at 800/400/800 kbaht. Next January.. be ready.

How many of us can actually get health insurance? Very few i reckon. If you have a medical emergency, then you will have at least 400k immediately available for use. OK, it might cost you your next years visa, but it's better than it costing you your life... Without funds, Thailand has absolutely no obligation to do anything other than make you comfortable and let you die.
Now perhaps in future, if you can prove you hold adequate insurance, the requirement to maintain these minimums may be relaxed.

As i did my yearly at the begining of jan, before these new rules came out ,i assume the "new rules" do not apply to us until we do our new extension

Worth 20k in England ,still just 800000k here,13 years ago you could buy a hell of a lot more for 800,000.Had 800k in the bank untouched for 13 years, cost 12k pounds to put in now worth nearly 20k, no stress here.[emoji3]

Try phoning while your having a heart attack or being picked up off the road after being run over and the ambulance is on its way ,Then keep your current reserve of cash in the bank for that unexpected expense and start transferring that 65K per month to use the income method. Problem solved.
For a sudden large unexpected expense, I can request a transfer at 5pm at night and it hits my Thai bank account at 9am next morning. Problem solved.

So guys who have the 800 000 baht but no more will not be wanted your saying ,harsh if they have a wife and a home kids and have lived here a long time dont you think?Another thing were is the grandfathering in these visa changes? Guys on these forums have been yapping away for years that they are not worried about changes to the retirement visa because retirement visas were always grandfathered in the past.....I would be willing to bet that there will also be no grandfathering when the 800,000 is raised....Why?
Because these are not simple visa updates....This is more about showing certain people the door.....

I read earlier that a british marriage certificate has to be sent to milton keynes ,but i see online that this can also be done in Dublin and Belfast ,i believe its called apostille legalisation,is this right?

Only one problem,we were married in the UK the embassy no longer confirms this ,so you have to send your mrriage certificate to Milton keynes, then it has to go to the Thai embassy in London and then you have to get it back to yourself in Thailand.I think that is going way too far.
There was some sort of intent behind this other than trying to do away with all expats, but very poorly implemented.
Ineptitude and excessive haste - looks to me like the kind of thing that a "big honcho" would abruptly concoct on his own and, this being Thailand, would not take the time to consult anyone for feedback and no one would dare tell him it wasn't going to work as intended. The excessive haste part likely has to do with the political ambitions and trajectory of the principal person behind this. Wants to make a big splash solving a problem and tries to do so in a hurry without really understanding the ramifications or thinking through how it would be implemented.
Very, very annoying and more than a little disheartening but no call for paranoia, I think.
If you are married here, why not switch to a marriage extension?

I have a home worth 5 million, its in our sons name, so ime stuffed even if that was the case.
EDIT:
I have just started a new thread on this idea as I think it is worth exploring. If the Thai authorities want us to lock up our money all year why can't we lock it up in a the purchase of a condo or business. Your comments and thoughts are welcomed:

Same problem if you need the 400k immediatly,no time to transfer from home ,your kicked out for spending it,its a stupid rule.Rumors about a possible bank run cause you to panic and withdraw all your money. A few days later the government reassures the public and you redeposit the money, but you get kicked out for violating immigration requirements.

So that means that those of us who did our extensiones before the new rules 3 months 800,000 can carry on as normal spend it all if we like ,and then when we do our next one the new rules apply ,yes?
