  1. Actually it is getting harder   today I went to have my old car inspected,
they tested the lights and (new) alignment of headlights , the brakes and exhaust emission /noise
obviously its not as rigorous as it could be and thankfully not as rigorous as a UK  MOT
    (overboard IMHO)

There was a Mercedes Benz  to be checked right after mine..but the owner of the test center  had to refuse to even start the test as Benz's headlights didn't work...he couldn't even fudge the test as its all recorded/photographed which goes into the computer.

He also mentioned that  vehicles converted to run on gas  (LPG,CNG ) will soon have to have the gas installation tested (at specialist center) every year instead of the now every 5 years.

So got my "MOT"  220 baht   and compulsory government insurance 640 baht  [emoji1]
they where very busy but worked fast so didn't wait too long
and on Saturday off to "Central" for the Tax disc...

  2. The one piece of advice i can give,is do not go to any of the private eye clinics 4 years ago i went to one in Pattaya ,long story short must have operation next week for cataract 52k charged 4k for drops est etc went for a second opinion at Satahip naval hospital, full battery of tests 900 baht. Yes you have a cataract very early stages, come again 6 months ,i was then told had pressure in my eyes and will need drops.
This was 4 yrs ago ,i go every 6 months ,still no need for operation ,last time had extra tests ,no problems.
My doctor is a miserable old gal ,but i trust her 100%
Sorry for going on but its a good govt hospital, you dont get seen straight away but even as a falang i am treated well.

  4. You're making judgements on people purely based on their nationality. That's pretty nasty.

Trouble is the good ones get lumped in with the thousands of bad ones that cause most of the trouble, you just have to look at the pictures of the vast majority of people who do all the knife crime in London.

  5. Hi everyone,

I recently decided it was about time  I had a routine eye check and asked someone to phone Rutnin hospital to find the cost of standard eye tests.  I asked someone to phone them on my behalf.  She was given a price for the test, and then my friend mentioned that I am not Thai.  The hospital then advised that the cost was now nearly double the price initially quoted.  When challenged as to why that was, the reason given was quite vague - it requires a different kind of service.  Perhaps the details were lost in translation or deliberately vague, I don't know.

Can anyone shed some light of this "different kind of service" or confirm that the double pricing structure quoted is actually incorrect.  If it's a simple miscommunication, then I needn't boycott the place.

    Thanks

    Welcome to Thailand
