  1. Maybe the world is finally buying into the Thai soft power ploy.
  2. I'd be surprised if showing something on your phone was accepted at all. Not just because of the issue that an app could be fake, too, but because they cannot add any documentation of looking at a phone screen to their paper files. And we all know how much they love paper.
  3. Black, Indian, or Black Indian - it really shouldn't have any relevance whatsoever.
  4. Indeed, Thai soft power and all that. Being the hub of hubs includes being a medical hub. It's funny how that comes to bite him.
  5. The DTV is explicitly made for remote workers, so filing tax returns in Thailand with income from abroad should be perfectly fine. I haven't seen anything about whether or not having a DTV would allow you to apply for permanent residency. I'd say probably not, as it's considered as pretty much a special tourist visa.
  6. You're probably right. If anything, they will get stricter.
  7. Yes I guess it really depends on how diligent they are with checking this. They could check how long the business website's domain has been registered and what its Internet Archive history looks like, but then again, the applicant could opt to book a cooking class and apply in the Thai soft power category instead.
  8. They could book you a cooking class and provide you with documentation thereof. Or a hospital appointment. They could provide you with a bank statement showing the required 500,000 baht. They could organize visa runs to Vientiane to apply.
  9. In related news, the level of functional illiteracy is sky-high in Thailand. Maybe they aren't doing such a great job teaching their language to their people.
  10. Seriously now? Others would like a retro look.
  11. It's a small enough immigration office for IOs to remember you. If they know you actually live in a condo but rock up with a 1-night hotel booking to circumvent the TM30 issue, I'm not surprised that they aren't best pleased. You should work with your landlord to get you properly registered in the online TM30 system, then you can report yourself as the tenant each time you re-enter Thailand and take a printout of the current TM30 notification receipt with you when you extend.
  12. News Flash: It won't help!
  13. If they had wanted to make the DTV special with regards to taxation, they would have done so when they created it, as with the LTR visa. They haven't.
  14. And yet, he got to interview the senior official, while you waste your time moaning about him here. Get a life.
  15. You're right about that, just look at their ad-hoc language tests for language school Non-ED visa holders they did in the past. The current government clearly is very lax about immigration right now, and I'd expect that to be reflected in the level of scrutiny exercised by IOs as well - for the time being. However, if and when that lax attitude changes again, DTV visa holders could get hassled in the same way as METV and Non-ED visa holders before. If I had to guess based on past performance, the most likely trigger will be a few high-profile cases of DTV holders committing crimes.
  16. While I take your post as saying that whether you extend or border hop potentially has an impact on tax enforcement, it's worth noting that it doesn't have an implication on your tax residency status. In case of an audit (which could happen years later), you could be back-taxed and fined for those years you spent 180+ days in Thailand but they didn't know about you yet.
  17. Again? Many people have never stopped wearing masks. Whatever their individual reasons may be.
  18. He knows she will rip him apart, but ultimately, he will have no other option than to face her. Popcorn time!
  19. This isn't really news and not limited to Central either. I've been able to use my Cambodian bank app to make QR code payments with Thai merchants since December.
  20. The requirements don't say. Your bank account could be in Thailand, in your home country or elsewhere. What an individual embassy will be willing to accept and how much effort they will put into establishing that an applicant's bank statements are genuine is anyone's guess.
  21. Shock horror, I have no idea how I've survived in Bangkok for 18 years.
  22. If you must mention Thiel in two consecutive sentences, you should learn how to spell his name. Which would be a good idea anyway, considering that he's one of the shadowy figures running the country. As for the VP pick, not a good move indeed.
