We can go astray, but for a change, let's focus on the essential: Except for early morning readings, during the day, my BP is always too high. No matter what I do. I should have died years ago.

Do you owe money?
swissie replied to simon43's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
All countries are in dept. There is no country left that is dept-free. Knowing that "taxpayers" will fill in the gap. If not, the "outstanding balance" will be retreived by war. As usual. -

In the 1960/70ties? Today young folks can not qualify for a downpayement and qualify to service their dept. They simply don't earn enough money. All over Europe. Without a "real-estate-inheritance", average young folks will not become "real-estate -owners" in Europe anymore. Hail to the 1960/70ties, when the working class was able to accumulate some tangible assets, beyond their paychecks. -

Holy moly, "Credit" can be a eautiful thing when used to augment economic activity. A loan of 5%, producing 10% more revenue is a good thing. Unfortunately, a large part ot "credits" are used to buy "consumer-goods". Things that do not increase in value, but sooner or later end up as trash at the local dump. Sometimes before the loan for the trash is payed off. Nowhere else more a significant constellation than in the USA. Some people say, that this is not going to end up well. -

Me too. Good on me and you in the longer term mate. It's just how much "longer-term" the both of us have. Nevermind. The vultures (relatives) are circeling above me. I have made sure that the vultures will go empty. -
Blood pressure, revisited. Resting, my BP averages 130 to 85. Age 72. What is more relevant, higher or lower BP? Took my BP measuring device with me yesterday. After walking 500 meters: 160 over 92. Resting, drinking a cup of coffee: 155 over 88. Watching Donald Trump on TV the same evening: My BP readings went out of control. I must conclude: Except for early morning readings, during the day, my BP is always too high. No matter what I do. As a precautionary measure, I don't frequent GoGo Bars anymore, afraid that my BP readings would go thru the roof. Same as marathon runners after 40 Km's. Their reading would have to be astronomical, as opposed to the readings of "old gezzeres" where surpassing certain boundaries is qualified as "life threathening". "Clogging up" on blood- pipelines are mentioned as part of the aging process. In other words, the medication that we take to avoid the "clogging-up" the blood pipelines are not working. Once more: 70% of the day, my BP is too high. End of.

Yep! Take residence in the US and tell them that you are dept-free. Only using a pre-paid card occasionally. It won't be long and your US friends will classify you as an immigrant with a serious mental disorder. -
The new "McCartyism" of today presents itself in form of "new born" Evangelists. Fired up by TV Evangelist preachers. Conservative estimates: Worth about 100 million voters in the US. The rest of the world does not understand this. But the rest of the world also doesn't understand why a person like Donald Trump could establish himself as some modern day "messias".

I wrote in an other sub-forum: "I mentioned before how important the central banks and their "actions" are, concerning exchange rates. In the case of Thailand: Among many other considerations, Thailand wants to remain an "export nation" as this will generate a lot more revenue as the "tourist sector". Therefore, the BoT will see to it that the Bht does not strenghten any more in a meaningful way. The Bht may well be near a "peak". Giving a quantum of solace to Farangs living in Thailand".

Many a times I have stressed this point here. If your "home currency" is not the US$, every investment denominated in US$ (including Gold) means that one is actually holding 2 speculative positions. The "primary" investment AND the US$. -

In the end it's what the bank/broker offers within their horrible bid/ask spreads. Future market spreads are around + 7 % for crude oil. On the other hand , natural Gas costs an annual rate of minus 79% per year. My interogation, how a "long position" in "natural gas ", at a negative rate of 79% per year could ever turn into a profit has remained unaswered. -
In my younger years I was a Communist. I found that nobody needs billionaires. I found that (instead) affordable housing, a guaranteed workplace, free hospitalisation and free education for everyone would be the peak of civilisation, that nobody in his right mind could object to this. (Nobody gets too rich and nobody gets too poor). Over time, I realised that practised communism had very little to do with the original concept. So, I turned into a capitalistic communist. Quite successfully I might add. Still regretting much, that human nature does not accomodate "equality", but rather "competition". Few win, most lose. In Thailand as well as in 80% of the rest of the wolrld. Eighter way, this is not going to end up well.

If your Bank/Broker doesn't offer "online" tracking of your account, I would get a little nervous. -
Where to sell a silver bar
swissie replied to Repton1's topic in Jobs, Economy, Banking, Business, Investments
Yeah, photography is out. These days, there is hardly any electronic device that doesn't contain Silver. No solar panel without Silver. Nice to know that Silver is supported by increasing industrial demand and supported as a "store of value" as well. Love it. -

Maybe you want to reconsider. My Indian Guru tells me that this is not the time to sell Silver, it's the time to buy Silver. -

If only Gold and the Dollar would move in an inverted tandem. Tick by tick so to speak. Gold may remain "stable" while the $ keeps declining. Causing grief if your home currency is not the US$. -

Let's not forget, the Central Banks are major "currency traders". Depending on the situation, the may want to strenghten or weaken their "home currency". Of course, they produce their balance-sheets. But that only reflects what they were doing in the recent past. What they are doing today can only be guessed. I know only one thing. The US Democrats as well as the Republicans want the Dollar lower. -

I think I am starting to understand. On a Saturday, shortly before closing, due to "expiration" of certain foods, prices are reduced. Also: Shortly before closing time at the bar, the remaining ladies become more friendly. I used to call this "statistics" in combination with "common sense". In the future I will call it "algorisms". -
The Ultimate Betrayal and the Enemy
swissie replied to Chris Daley's topic in ASEAN NOW Community Pub
So very sorry to hear about this, you, as a serious contributor in an other ASEAN sub forum. As I gather, you escaped this "ordeal" financially "intact". As opposed to thousands of other Farangs that have left their heart and money in Thailand or the Phippines. The fact, that you are still "financially intact" offers you the opportunity to "open new doors and new avenues" for you. Fortunately. -

I believe it's called timing. What moves the markets? 10 fools meet and 6 of them decide that a sack of potatoes will cost 50% more soon. The beginning of a Bull Market. Or the other way around. Supply and demand, but not necessarily when it comes to "split-second" trading. Or "running the stops"? You? Nevermind: I am genuinely interested. An increasing number of people seem to use algorithems, but I never got in contact with a person that actually applies it. So, you are my man. Or, to make a long story short: How do you personally profit from algorisms in your daily trading? -

Quote: Running highs and lows and repricing to old inefficiencies. Not hard to find out where the "buy/sell stops are. Turning every weak breakout into a short term bull/bear trap? Is that it? That would be nothing new. -

I partially agree. "pivot points" are of interest. All technical indicators are in "ouverbought" territory. I don't need any algorism to tell me that. It won't be long and all technical indicators will be in "oversold territory". What tells your "algorism" to you, that my standart technical indicators don't tell me? Warren Buffet is famous. You are not. Why not? -
Plenty of Thai "legal eagles" that made it possible for Farangs to stay in Thailand as far as Visas are concerned. For a price. As I write, a new generation of Thai "legal eagles" are preparing to find possibilities for Farangs to circumvent taxation. For a price. Actually the new "business" for Thai Lawyers will be more rewarding than the old "hum drum" Visa business. A new source of income for underemployed lawyers in Thailand has just opened.

So glad to hear that something like this is possible in TODAYS Thailand.
