    I don't blame them.

They mustn't have much faith in their own quarantine systems?

Looks like covid is far from over.

Yeah, unfortunately even with the best quarantine system in the world, some will slip through for a variety of reasons.

Every variant will be found in every place on earth. That's almost a guarantee. Only a matter of when.

People who have concealed information to medical staff are being blamed for the spike of COVID-19 cases.

Super shocking since many posters have assured us of Thailand's amazing, world class covid response.

I guess these lying Thais the government has mentioned multiple times have only just become immoral. Before everyone in the country was honest.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has ordered the procurement of 50 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine from various sources, on top of the 100 million doses procured for this year, to make sure that everyone in the country is inoculated and that there are reserves left over for future use.

I have a very strong suspicion China has encouraged Thailand to delay all other vaccines into Thailand so that Sinovac can fill the void. No doubt the Chinese would also be quite happy to pay the 30% backhanders into the pockets of their Sino Thai cousins. Win Win Cooperation.

Some have made that claim but I'm not sure about it...at the end of 2019 and early 2020, all countries were unsure of the magnitude of what was happening. Since then, they have been very strict when it comes to the virus.

They were unsure because China was lying. They are still lying. It's been proven and admitted that they were working on a vaccine 2 weeks before they succumbed to pressure to admit the virus was human to human transmissible.

Anyway, they will pay a price of armed conflict a generation growing up without fathers.

Back to the topic. Wait, what were we talking about?

Never heard that in Thailand anything technically demanding is illegally copied other than T-shirts.

This is not China, where they copy everything, even airplanes and high-speed trains. The new Chinese Comac passenger jets are quite exact copies of Airbus.

    But Thailand? Come on!

I think it's 1) simply someone's job to be thorough and Thailand is a known issue for decades and 2) there are likely some intelligent people in the US government bodies keeping southeast asian countries on their toes in anticipation of China trying to use countries like Thailand, Myanmar, Laos and others as proxies.

I would argue that's a strong incentive to report the numbers honestly...do you think the Chinese, their largest and most important market, are going to allow their nationals to return if they suspect any fudging of the numbers.

I like many of your posts, but I have to suspect you're having a laugh? The Chinese are the world's fudgiest in every aspect of their society. They did lobby to send their sickened tourists all over the world at the end of 2019 so perhaps they don't care.

Yeah, you can repeat your mantra over and over, but answer this:

Chonburi is extensively tested every day. Why aren't the numbers that high?

How do you know Chonburi is extensively tested every day? Are you part of the testing effort or have you simply chosen to believe something you've been told? That's your answer. ????

    1. The Thai infrastructure is largely incompetent. I don't think anyone would genuinely be surprised by this -- especially anyone who has lived here for long.

    2. Thailand has a STRONG incentive to underreport. Haven't you seen the incessant pleas to lure tourists back - even before it's safe to do so? A massive chunk of Thailand's economy is virtually shut down. Previously (and obviously dishonestly) reported to be 9% of GDP but recently admitted to be well over 20% (which is still too low).

From Friday's televised English language COVID news briefing by the government. Numbers below are the new cases for the most recent day. The provinces chart also includes a recap of total cases by province since the start of April.

The most useful info in these stats and graphs are the (typical) cartoons.  ????

On a serious note, thank you for taking the time to post all the stats, though they are likely wildly inaccurate. Whether the reported numbers are rising or falling is useful to some extent.

Get >2000 with low mass testing (argue against this if you will) and the infections rate MUST be higher. BKK alone should be doing 10,000+ tests a day. Test more, find more. This is one way to stop clusters early.

It's probably too late. "Brazil" variant has been detected. Only a matter of time before "India" variant as well, probably coming across from Myanmar and the fighting there.

The Thais refuse to be serious and so they'll pay a significant price.

To all the people who think they are testing properly and somehome, magically, beyond any mathematical reality, the cases are stable everyday: you shall see soon.

  10. Very obvious and predictable strategy here. They were always simply stalling until tourism kicked in again and they should start making money again.

The entire thing is a charade, though their foreign creditors are the only serious parties.

The Thai bankruptcy court could not care less and all these powerful Sino Thais will be conspiring to stall the proceedings until the pandemic is over and large numbers of tourists return.

    They have no other strategy.

I've never noticed this attitude from Thais in Isaan where I live or in general but I do think it may exist in government circles which means it has a greater effect.

I don't know about the Thai smile but Thai politeness exits but with limits. Anyone who claims Thais are always polite has never driven on Thai roads.

The prevailing xenophobia is, in my opinion, driven primarily by Sino Thais and Sino Thai elites in particular. Experience shows in virtually every part of the world where there are large ethnic Chinese national populations, there is a deep xenophobia for outsiders. Now, it's not just ethnic Chinese, of course. East Asians are largely deeply xenophobic. I love and respect Japanese culture, but I would NEVER live in Japan.

Please read my above post. Standard  protocol calls for widespread screening to discover outbreaks, done in Thialand. Then testing is adjusted to maintain a high level of tests/positive case. Or a low percentage of positives/test.  Same same.

By studying the below graph can you see which country excels at that? Without Thai man bad glasses it is clearly Thailand.

I can show you a graph of virtually anything. Does not mean it's accurate or created in good faith. Surely you are aware that people do lie. Even Thais. And, people are incompetent. If you'd like examples of times graphs were ENTIRELY and CATASTROPHICALLY incorrect, I can furnish a few. ????
