  1. Good riddance to the pro-military, pro-Monarchy "yellow shirts" who murdered innocent civilians during protests with the "red shirts".
  2. Yes indeed. Living near Khon Kaen pre-pandemic, I used Air Asia's "Fly Thru" service on many flights to Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam (one ticket from KKC to destination, and return). Passport and Immigration Control was completed in the International Departure Lounge at KKC (only for Air Asia passengers at that time). I always had to change aircraft at Don Meuang where an Air Asia hostess accompanied onward travel passengers straight through to DMK International Departures - technically I was in transit as I had left Thailand when I departed from KKC. No further involvement with Thai Immigration - already completed back in Khon Kaen. At the end of a return "Fly Thru" flight back in KKC, my baggage was put on an "international arrivals" belt and was often the only piece! There was also an x-ray machine and a waiting Customs Officer, again often just for me. I am certain this arrangement was present at Udon Thani Airport for Air Asia's Fly Thru passengers. What the current situation is at Khon Kaen I have no idea but I can still "Fly Thru" with Air Asia from Siem Reap (SAI) to Khon Kaen (KKC) via DMK, with Thai Immigration having a seperate desk solely for "Fly Thru" passengers avoiding the main hall in DMK. An efficient time saving service. For reference, baggage in the hold also Fly's Thru, you collect from the belt on arrival at destination. At DMK baggage is transferred between flights by Air Asia ground staff.
  3. Thank you and exactly my thought being an elderly gent with mobility problems these days. Fortunatley, "yes". For reference: Lifts: Elevating accessibility to new heights, two lifts have been installed in the station, granting access to all levels, including the platform. These lifts enable individuals with mobility impairments, parents with strollers, and those carrying heavy luggage to navigate the station with ease. https://www.huahintoday.com/local-news/how-the-new-hua-hin-train-station-will-make-travel-easier-for-passengers-of-all-abilities/
  4. Free bathing - if you would care to drop in any time!
  5. I am not a whisky drinker, but have you tried the drinks section in any of the Rimping Supermarkets in Chiang Mai?
  6. Well I never: Ah sugar, ah honey honey You are my candy girl And you've got me wanting you Ah honey, ah sugar sugar You are my candy girl And you've got me wanting you (The Archies)
  7. In this tragic accident, it could have included both. The destination Na Thawi is in Songkhla Province and not too far from the Malaysian Border. From my experience travelling on these regular time-tabled blue/white Inter Provincial buses between Lanna, Isaan and Bangkok, the passengers were mainly Thai people either going to work, visiting relatives, attending a festival or shopping etc. rather than going on a tour as such. IMO such buses are not "tour" buses as is often quoted.
  8. I have travelled with NakonChaiAir several times between Phu Wiang (Khon Kaen Province) to Bangkok and the coaches were all fitted with seat belts. From experience, I found the Thais generally did not wear theirs but I always "belted up".
  9. With respect and from my experience when I lived in Isaan, not surprising when the cops and their families own the farmland!
  10. IMO, not only sugar cane farmers but sweet corn/maize farmers who burn the stalks and leaves after harvesting the cobs, also folk who set fire to forests in readiness for the harvesting of the small black button mushrooms! Burning corn/maize stalks (stock photo) The much sought after Hed Thob button mushrooms, after the burning season
  11. By snoop1130 21 hours ago in Isaan News With the greatest respect, may I enquire why this article was posted in Isaan News? Lampang is several hundred kilometres to the west/north west of Isaan in Lanna.
  12. Just leave him in peace until his pardon and release early next year - just 2 or 3 months time! Well done Sir!
  13. What a load of BS is being posted by the "townies" and "beach bums". Although a pile of rice on the road was responsible for the demise of the young motorcyclist (38), drying rice on fine mesh nets laid on the roads is very common practice during the harvesting season. Where I used to live in rural Khon Kaen Province, driving over them in my pickup was inevitable where the road was narrow. Never any bans, it was a way of life for the locals. RIP motorcycle man.
  14. Unbelievable but: "The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly exacerbated mental health concerns. The number of people in Thailand suffering from mental health-related problems rose from 1.3 million in 2015 to 2.3 million in 2021. Unsurprisingly, the number of suicides is also increasing" (I wonder what are the current figures!) https://www.newmandala.org/mental-health-as-public-health-in-thailand/ RIP young military officer.
  15. My apologies. Well I shall be 80 in 2 months time. Imperial Airways (UK) with its "flying boats" had stewardesses
  16. Easy, if you are a regular flyer from DMK (like I was). Take a look at the uniform of the cabin stewardess alongside the flight officer - identical to these: I will not name the airline but it may have "roaring" success!
  17. Neither does Cambodia, despite the Royal Cambodian Navy Ream Base near Sihanoukville. The fleet comprises large and small patrol boats, landing craft and "motorised canoes" (wikipedia). Burma apparently has 2:- (wikipedia) On 24 December 2021, Myanmar Navy has commissioned its second submarine the UMS Minye Kyaw Htin, a type 35B Ming-class submarine from China. Vietnam has 6 submarines and Malaysia 2 (ref. again, wikipedia)
  18. Well I never - he we go again, Pattaya the International family friendly holiday resort!
  19. Thanks, and how interesting. I had the same problem with my Cambodian bank, ABA. Without warning, the bank withdrew its personal internet banking facility for computers. I changed to a bank that did and closed the original account. A lot of hassle initially, but now okay. Ironically, the original bank still sends a demand for the annual debit card fee despite being informed the account was closed and the debit card destroyed around 2 years ago!
  20. Just a thought, RIMPING supermarkets in Chiang Mai have extensive "drinks" sections.
